Biden Contradicts Himself On Meet The Press today, Goes Unchallenged By Brokaw
But, but, but the main stream media is independent isn't it? They can't be in bed with the Democrats! "Joe Biden appeared this morning on Meet the Press, moderated by Tom Brokaw. In the opening series of questions, Brokaw probed Biden about the effect of Governor Sarah Palin's inclusion in the presidential campaign. Brokaw asked generally how Biden would handle his upcoming debate with Palin, underscoring his question with the premise that it might be a delicate situation debating a woman. Biden responded with a rambling answer in which he stated that he debates women all the time in the U.S. Senate and had previously run against a formidable female opponent in one of his Delaware Senate races. Biden went on to say that he would have an easier time debating vice presidential runners-up Tom Ridge and Mitt Romney since he was familiar with their policy positions. Biden said he did not know Governor Palin's policy positions (and even seemed to claim he had not seen Palin's entire RNC speech). Literally seconds later, the questioning turned to Palin's immediate ability to energize the base - and in particular to draw women to the campaign. Biden repeated the standard party line that Palin's policies were generally out of touch with many women, and in particular she was "diametrically opposed to [Senator] Hillary" Clinton on policy. Two things. First, it is implausible (and in fact political malpractice, to borrow a term) to consider that Joe Biden does not know Sarah Palin's policy positions nine days after she was tapped by John McCain. Has Biden not watched any television in the meantime? And if he has not yet boned up on his counterpart's policy positions, then when is he going to get around to it? Secondly, Biden contradicted his own ignorance about Palin's policy positions by almost immediately claiming that those same policy positions were "diametrically opposed" to those of Senator Hillary Clinton. And most significantly, Brokaw did not challenge Biden on either point." 42 comments from 14 users

Biden gave fundie-girl her due. Biden conceeded that fundie-girl energiezed the RNC. He gave her more respect than I would have. He didn't "seem to claim" he didn't hear fundie-girl's speech, he said he didn't hear it, as he was in an airplane at the time. He did mention tough debates with women. He mentioned that he has known Ridge and Romney for years and knows their positions. He commented that he does not know fundie-girl's policies. Neither does anyone else; she has yet to stop name calling and say something of substance or specific. Right now, she isn't saying anything. He did state that fundie-girl was not taking the votes of Hillary voters, if in fact that was purpose of her being a running mate. Meanwhile, Obama on This Week when asked, said he would debate fundie-girl. He jokingly said she would beat him at shooting targets but wouldn't have a chance with him on the basketball court. It was a strange question as presidential candidates normally don't debate running mates. You seem to have a selective hyper-critical focus on Joe Biden. What did he say or do that ticked you off? posted by

Since Clinton and Palin are from two different parties, it's a safe assumption that they have different political viewpoints. I don't know much about Palin's views on many National issues, either. Her attention has been focused on Alaska and Alaskan issues. What is her position on immigration, for instance? Does she have a position on immigration? posted by

Biden votes against the oil industry cartel much of the time. He recently voted, in June of this year, for Senate Bill 3044, which would have repealed many tax deductions the oil industry now receives, but would have increased tax incentives for alternative energy programs for this same industry. The Bill did not get the necessary 60 votes in the Senate to pass, of course. Lots of big talk for change by Republicans, but they always vote to maintain the status quo. posted by

Roysan -- It is Catpaw and other's feeble attempt at humor. Whether she's truly a "fundie" or not, the fact that he has to resort to the term "girl" to describe a woman, tells you everything you need to know. His side has lost this part of the war by going over the top with the "girl stuff" and the polls relect it. Now McCain needs to use this energy to go after the electoral map -- after all, that's what will count and its doesn't look as good as national polls. Yes Tony -- I've said all along -- 2012 Sarah for POTUS. (we just have to get her in WH in 08 -- any capacity - that's job #1) posted by

Grandson was doing a little research and graphing using maps on the internet yesterday and said it looks like it might come down to Floridas deciding again and how funny that would be. That brought on a whole raft of jokes about senior citizens and how or why they might vote. Motopoet commented they might decide they aren't voting for that fella named "Hangin Chad". posted by

Chico says: "Biden doesn't know a Shia from a Sunni" Who does? I see them on television and they both look the same to me. They seem to dress alike, women shrouded with slitted hoods, the men mostly topped with towels. How's anyone supposed to know which is which? Do they have any distinguishing features, unifo rms or anything? It's kinda like Republicans and Democrats, Christians and Jews, Catholics and Protestants, How"s any one supposed to tell the men apart when they all have the same old suits and ties or the women with the same old appropriate dresses and pants suits?

She diametrically opposed to Hillary Clinton because she has NO policies. Unless you consider firing librarians because they won't censor books as a policy. It'll be interesting to see how long can she can hide from the press. I personally hope Biden takes off the gloves and debates her as the opposing candidate not as the champion of soccer moms everywhere. posted by

Biden won't have any choice but to debate Palin as an equal. Not if he intends to win the debate anyway. She's not just the average "little woman" or "hockey mom", she's a force to be reckoned with and the left knows it. I don't think they'll be cutting her any slack...... nor should they. She won't have any trouble handling herself. She's no longer "in hiding", she's scheduled an interview. posted by

You see RF, I made a perfectly reasonable comment about Biden debating Palin and you made an insulting retort. Totally unnecessary which, once again, proved Apollo's point. I agree that she shouldn't be cut any slack and this should be a head on debate. Why is it that you aren't able to do that without the slur? You're a lot smarter than to have to resort to that kind of comment. I would expect that from some of the hotheads but you can do much better and not sound like such a bitter person. posted by

Palin is the darling of the Conservative right. But, is there any one of you out there in blog land that can tell me where she stands on any of the following issues. Without looking it up on the Internet first. (not that you'll find anything there).
The war in Iraq (and troop withdrawals) Revamping the Social Security system Bush's program "no child left behind" NAFTA Stem cell research Sex ed programs for teens Prayer in schools A woman's right to choose (in the case of incest, rape and pre teen pregnancies) The rising unemployment rate The bail out of Freddie Mac and Fanny Mae Global Warming Off shore drilling and drilling in pristine wilderness areas. Protecting endangered species Selected cutting in ancient forests Stopping the flow of illegal immigrant into America Stopping the flow of drugs across our borders Universal health care Reducing the ENORMOUS DEFICIT Pork barrel projects (like the bridge to no where) Teaching Creationism in addition to evolution in public schools To name a few. Anyone care to answer? posted by

Those really ARE some big issues, Mom. God, reading that list made me a nervous wreck! How are we EVER going to unravel all those issues in our lifetimes? I'm particularly concerned about: A woman's right to choose (in the case of incest, rape and pre teen pregnancies) Global Warming Stopping the flow of drugs across our borders Universal health care Reducing the ENORMOUS DEFICIT Maybe we'll learn more during the debates. What I would really like is a Q&A form, given to all four of the candidates on the two tickets, with all of these issues on it, and their responses. With DETAILS, please! posted by

For one, she's for drilling in Anwr which some consider to be pristine wilderness and a polar bear refuge even though there are no polar bears supposedly there. She's for off shore drilling The Bridge to nowhere which she was for in the beginning but later decided against it. She is for protecting endangered species but is also for controlling herd growth and states that polar bears are not endangered. She has stated that she is supportive of the war In Iraq and always has been. Troops withdrawals on a timely basis. From her stance so far I'd say she's against abortion but despite the fact that she chose NOT to abort her son, I didn't see that she felt others shouldn't have the opportunity to make that decision. Not sure about some, haven't heard about some but I"m sure we'll be getting the lowdown soon. I didn't go to the internet for any of these, just what I've picked up that I remember. posted by

It ain't all polar bears. She's for off shore drilling The Bridge to nowhere which she was for in the beginning but later decided against it. She's still for the *OTHER* Bridge2Nowhere. She is for protecting endangered species but is also for controlling herd growth and states that polar bears are not endangered. Think you're wrong about the first part. If an endangered species interferes with someone's hunting trip, I think she'd shoot its pups in a second. And I think if you asked the polar bears *THEY* certainly think they're endangered. She has stated that she is supportive of the war In Iraq and always has been. Troops withdrawals on a timely basis. Shrub has already agreed basically to Obama's timetable. From her stance so far I'd say she's against abortion but despite the fact that she chose NOT to abort her son, I didn't see that she felt others shouldn't have the opportunity to make that decision. If she's for making abortion illegal (she is), and then classing half the birth-control methods available *AS* abortion, she sure as h*ll *IS* removing the ability of others to make that choice. I don't think you can generalize from whatever "choice" she supposedly gave her daughter. Anti-abortion activists nearly *ALWAYS* reserve that choice for themselves. They just don't want *OTHERS* having it.

Just called the Republican Headquarters to ask about a HUGE yard sign. The gentlemen on the other end was not selfish with his time. He wanted to know if I, or my Husband (which he had just spoken with) would be interested in volunteering some time to calling folks from headquarters. I told him I would reserve doing that until I've heard more on what they will do on our illegal immigration problem. They will be coming to California. McCain in my mind has pandered to the likes of LaRaza and such, You know the pro illegal crowd. I want to see how they handle this situation with Palin on board. Regardless, I will vote that ticket, but If I got on the phones and someone wanted to bring up that topic, I'd do more harm then good, unless I feel certain in my heart that they are going to, in all sincerity start taking some meaningful steps to put an end to this invasion. Feel free to call them, and ask questions. posted by
