An LA Times article that appeared in today's Californian about Medi-Cal doctors dropping out of the program left me flabbergasted.  It's not that doctors are dropping out because of the paltry payments coming from the State.  That has been happening for some time as evidenced by the number of smaller hospitals closing their doors.  And it's not the States' proposal to lower the compensation even further.  What grabbed my attention was this paragraph.

Funded jointly by the state and federal government, Medi-Cal is California's second-biggest expenditure after education. It is projected to cost $38 billion next year, with about $15 billion drawn from the state's general fund. The program serves 6.7 million poor, elderly and disabled people.

That's $38,000,000,000 for 6,700,000 people. That is $5,671.00 per person per year.  That is more than my private insurance for my family of three.  And the State can't even reimburse the doctors involved in this program what it costs to treat people.  I can only assume that the bulk of the $38 billion is swallowed up in the bureaucracy.  Can we really afford nationalized healthcare?

I am well aware of the hatred and disgust that the left holds for the right, but to see them fighting among themselves so viciously on the Daily Kos that the Clinton supporters have now called a writers strike until the administrators start policing the Obama supporters surprised even me.  http://www.dailykos.com/sto...

I won't say it's fun to watch...
