Local retailers received recalled beef

Did you eat some of the recalled beef?

The state Department of Public Health released the list of retailers that received beef from the Hallmark/Westland Meat Packing Co., the Chino slaughterhouse at the center of the biggest beef recall in U.S. history. (The complete list is attached to this post.)

Here are the Kern County retailers:

  • Triple A Meat Sales, 1400 Sumner St., Bakersfield, CA 93305, (661) 725-7213
  • Mike's Roadhouse Cafe #2, 15834 Sierra Highway, Mojave, CA 93501, (661) 824-2744
  • Primo Burgers, 16862 Highway 14, Mojave, CA 93501, (661) 824-2011
  • Rogers Burger, 8130 California Blvd., California City, CA 93505, (760) 373-8011
  • M & G Burgers #2, 2915 20th St., Rosamond, CA 93560, (661) 256-8041

  • M W B Inc./Mike's Roadhouse #1, Tehachapi, 93561, (589) 386-5803
  • Mountain Crossing Restaurant, 416 W. Tehachapi Blvd., Tehachapi, CA 93561, (661) 823-0450
  • Old Town Market, 20340 Valley Blvd., Tehachapi, CA 93561, (661) 823-9807
  • Primo Burgers, 118 E. Tehachapi Blvd., Tehachapi, CA 93561, (661) 972-2403
  • Summit Food Ser./Pedal Car, Tehachapi, CA 93561, (661) 587-2430
  • Summit Food/Village Grill #3, Tehachapi, CA 93561, (661) 746-3295
  • Village Grill, 410 E. Tehachapi Blvd., Tehachapi, CA 93561, (661) 823-1005

As far as officials know, no one has been sickened by the recalled beef. For some background, read the "A recall that makes my stomach turn" blog post.

In other beef recall news, the U.S. Department of Agriculture put two agency supervisors and one inspector on paid leave as part of the investigation, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Also, Agriculture Secretary Edward T. Schafer defended beef inspection regulations to a Senate subcommittee yesterday.
