Barry Manilow boycotts "The View"!
Barry Manilow has decided that he is boycotting "The View" because Elisabeth Hasselbeck is on it. My understanding is he is also a friend of Rosie O' Donnell's.
Here is a statement that he put on his site: "I wanted to let you know that I will no longer be on The View tomorrow as scheduled. I had made a request that I be interviewed by Joy, Barbara or Whoopi, but not Elisabeth Hasselback [sic]. Unfortunately, the show was not willing to accommodate this simple request so I bowed out. It's really too bad because I've always been a big supporter of the show, but I cannot compromise my beliefs. The good news is that I will be on a whole slew of other shows promoting the new album so I hope you can catch me on those." Other sources are saying that he is lying and just trying to get publicity for his new album since he has been on "The View" before with Hasselbeck on it and he booked his appearance after Rosie left. What do you think? 42 comments from 14 users

It makes me sad that he would do this. Just another pompous celebrity who cannot stand to be challenged in any way, shape or form. posted by

Good one SamHeath. ROTFLMAO! Yes, I imagine Elizabeth will require counseling after learning that the testosterone laden BM eschews her "views" Manilow, to be serious, typifies the Left's intolerance for other points of view This is why they will lose in 08! (With or without Hillary) posted by

Of course he likes Rosie; she would look like a guy if she did not resemble a cow so much. I would watch the show now just to hear what Whoopi has to say about how 'full of it' BM is. (pun definitely intended....) spam code: RLBMP (no I am not lying) posted by

"I wanted to let you know that I will no longer be on The View tomorrow as scheduled. " Is it just me or is there something wrong with that sentence? Of course you don't have to be a grammarian to write songs. posted by

Courage: Barry Manilow Afraid to Appear on 'The View' With HasselbeckBy Richard Newcomb | September 17, 2007 - 15:25 ET
In an exclusive statement to TMZ, Barry says, "I strongly disagree with her views. I think she's dangerous and offensive. I will not be on the same stage as her." So it seems that is is perfectly acceptable for liberals and/or Democrats to only go where their views will not be challenged, isn't it, Barry? I seem to recall the major Democratic candidates for President refusing to appear in a Fox-sponsored debate because they consider Fox 'right-wing'. I suspect that the real reason was that they might actually have to answeer questions that are not softballs about how terrible George W. Bush is and how unfeeling/corrupt/warmongering/[insert your preferred criticism here] the Republicans are. It seems to be a liberal failing to be unable to handle a frank exchange of disagreeing viewpoints. Maybe it is because they are so used to having a liberal echo chamber in the mainstream media? However, if a Republican were to refuse to go on, say CNN due to the left-wing viewpoints espoused by so many of CNN's reporters and talking heads, the liberal media would scream. It seems that liberals and the media want complete freedom to say whatever they wish without any criticism, no matter how offensive or untrue, but cannot grant that privilege to anyone with whom they disagree. Remind me again about liberal support of free speech? It seems that only they and those who agree with them are entitled to free speech- anyone who might be *gasp* a conservative is not granted that right. I'm wondering when the media will comment on the one-sided nature of this approach to free speech, as well as denigrate Manilow's cowardice as he surely deserves. I won't hold my breath. posted by

The four candidates leading in most national polls - Rudy Giuliani, John McCain, Mitt Romney, and Fred Thompson - have said they have fund-raising or other scheduling conflicts and will not attend the nationally televised forum in Baltimore on Sept. 27. But even some leading Republicans questioned whether the candidates are interested in addressing issues of special concern to African-Americans Does that answer your question Nancy, these same GOP also refused a debate in front of the LGBT community. posted by

sf...you made the statement referring to African Americans and now you're talking about LGBT... Are you saying you believe the top candidates dont' care about either? edited for the sake of not running too many posts here.... Which candidates who are NOT GOP are speaking out for LGBT rights and African American rights? posted by

Nancy: sf inboston may be able to gain insight into others positions by walking in their mocasins He is welcome to come to SFA and speak "De Opresso Liber" to the group I doubt he will as he will ascertain: 1) He has little to gain with the group (they probably won't like him much anyway) 2) They are not the type he wants to really have as friends anyway (constituency) Actually, the group would give him ^5's for it unlike the NAACP did GW! More salient might be the question to sfinboston: Are you equating being gay to being born black? It offends me when gays equate their choice of life styles to the civil rights struggle. Sorry posted by

Both are groups who have experienced discrimination. Being gay is not a choice, just as being a person of color is not a choice posted by

I'm not convinced its not a choice (being gay) but thats just me. Been wrong before, certainly don't know everything. I do know up close and personal though, that ethnicity is not a choice! The mind is a crazy powerful thing. Who knows? I do know this, however: When you walk down the street yahoos cannot ID you by sight! ID you by sight and treat you to some anglosaxon (or other groups are guilty as well) welcoming greetings as a little kid, like: "Hey pappoose, where's your squaw?" Tell it to Ira Hayes about being loved at home for love of country proven overseas. Do I sound bitter? Hell yes! posted by

I'm not really into deciding who has it worse, Gays or Blacks, or if Gay is a choice or not. My question had to do with the original statement. and my question again is "Which candidates who are NOT GOP are speaking out for LGBT rights and African American rights?" Your statement implied that the GOP was the only one not attending the debate or the forum you mentioned. Which of the Democratic party attended? For the record..I'm not wild about Manilow either but he wrote some good songs. Wish I could remember what they were.

Hi Nancy, the majority of the Democratic contenders have spoken and debated before the African American community and the LGBT community. All front runners. The LGBT debate was great. The democratic contenders heard what our issues are and we heard how they would or would not address those issues. Richardson of New Mexico did rather poorly at the debates even though he has a strong track record of supporting the LGBT community. But the GOP when invited to debate or speak have found that they had no time on their calendars. posted by

Nancy also seems to have forgotten how Bush refused to attend and address the yearly conference of the NAACP for the first 5 years of his administration. Bush was the first president not to do so.
