Jamie Lynn Spears, Britney's lil sis, is pregnant!
Jamie Lynn Spears, 16, has confirmed to OK Magazine in an interview that hits newstands tomorrow, that she is pregnant. She is the star of Nickelodeon's " Zoey 101" and the little sister of Britney Spears.

When things like this happen as they do, my concern is for the little girls that look up to her and how do the parents explain it to them? I get that girls her age get pregnant all the time but most that do, don't have a huge following of little girls that are impressionable and want to be just like them. Same thing with Vanessa Hudgens of High School Musical.......she took naked pics that got out and I had a friend tell me that her 8 year-old cousin asked her about it.

What do you say about it that will encourage them not to be like them?

I wonder who the baby's daddy is? Maybe one of her high school teachers? And I wonder if it was the school who told the parents she was pregnant?

One hopes the birth coincides with Zoey 101's nativity episode.

well, not surprised, talk about bad parenting? I thought christian kids didnt do this sort of thing, I thought they waiting until marriage. Maybe they should have worn protection and used other birth control.

And she will make money for being nothing more than trash like her sister.

i may get slammed for this, but my first thought was; you can take the trash outta the trailer,.........................

"I thought christian kids didnt do this sort of thing,"

Christians are not immune from making mistakes or making bad choices.

Of course, if she'd have been GAY, this wouldn't have been possible.  Is that more like what you want to say?

*laughs at ColorNine*

Wow.. I saw that headline and thought it was going to be sattire but...it is true.  It's not unusual for 16 year olds to be sexually active in this day and age... I wonder if she was using any type of birth control and it failed, hopefully she can use this situation to educate other teens about the variety of BC that suits them.

But overall, I commend her for keeping her baby.

"It's not unusual for 16 year olds to be sexually active in this day and age..."

Really? Are you a newspaper reporter?

posted by dgrealish on Dec 18, 2007 at 07:45 PM

Any chance to strike a low blow against Christians, right?  I don't remember Christianity being an issue here.  Was it part of a headline I missed?  SIXTEEN YEAR OLD CHRISTIAN GIRL IS PREGNANT, or was it just a feeble attempt to get in another dig?   Sheesh!

edited; seems we were on the same wave legnth, old blue.

Why are you laughing AT me, eurcynia?  I didn't think I said anything that was funny.

Lynne Spears's Parenting Book 'Delayed Indefinitely'

TUESDAY DECEMBER 18, 2007 10:15 PM EST
Lynne Spears's book about raising her famous daughters Britney and Jamie Lynn has been put on hold, the publisher confirms to PEOPLE.

"The book is delayed indefinitely. It's delayed, not cancelled," says a spokeswoman for Thomas Nelson, which publishes inspirational books and Bibles.

It had been scheduled for a spring 2008 release and was put on hold last week, says the rep. On Tuesday, news hit that 16-year-old Jamie Lynn is pregnant with her boyfriend's child.

Publishers' Weekly described the book as "Lynne Spears's personal story of raising high-profile children while coming from a low-profile Louisiana community."

The publisher declined to comment on whether the focus of the book would change in light of the pregnancy announcement.

"We are standing behind Lynn at this time and understand that she needs time with her family – we support that," says the spokeswoman.

Again I say, Girls don't get pregnant  to have a baby,  They do it because they are in love.
posted by sfinboston52 on Dec 19, 2007 at 06:46 AM

msemilyh : I all most posted that also, but decided against it.

ColorNine: It isnt an attack on christians, The Spears girls have always talked about  waiting until marriage and no primartial sex.  She meet the guy at her church, and she has in other articles held herself up as a christian.

Sorry OB but you don't need to be a reporter to realize it isn't unusual for 16 year olds to be having sex.  Just look around you.  There are a whole lot of teens out there who are having babies and if they aren't having sex, we need to revisit the immaculate conception theory.

Nancy, I was being sarcastic. I know, that's not like me....

Stickbugs, the funniest part about Lynn Spear's book is that it's getting printed and released by a Christian publisher.

I'm willing to bet their collective spincters tightened up on news of the pregnancy.

why would anyone pick Lynn Spears to right a book on raising children...that is like asking Marilyn Mason (?) or Anna Nicole Smith to write a book on how to be a great parent and raise children.
posted by awiggin on Dec 19, 2007 at 07:24 AM

Well, you'll all find this even more amusing. She's pregnant by her 19 yr old live in boyfriend. Her mother was quoted as saying, "She always been so responsible, she always makes curfew" DUH!!!!

19 yr old live in boyfriend

Good work, if you can get it.

Or like Richard Simmons writing a book titled "How To Pick Up Hot Women". (Or ANY woman).
posted by NancyII on Dec 19, 2007 at 07:40 AM

OB..sorry I missed that.  Blame it on a bad bout of the flu that I'm still recovering from.  (or is it from which I am still recovering?)  Gotta love that proper grammar.  And yes..I know that sarcasm isn't like you at all.  (cough)

Moving along..The sick thing is that dingbat mother will probably make a fortune just from people curious as to what she'llsay.  With her mothering talents, you should be able to get all the info you need from the jacket cover.

I wonder if in mom's book..you know, the one on how to raise children,is going to explain how to keep your legs close...19 year old daddy and a 16 year old 'pregnant' girlfriend--can anyone say statutory rape....this whole family is one big train wreck....what a mess...

So true, Lingtaowoo, so true.

And what does it say about our society when those are the kind of people that we want to read about or hear about?  Not all of us, fortunately, but so many people that it leaves my head shaking in wonder.

Wow 19 year old live in boyfriend with a 16 year old....well no wonder she got pregnant.  GREAT parenting skills.  What a book that would be.  There's no way a Christian publisher would print this book now.  She'll have to get a new publisher.  "Indefinitely" probably means never....

posted by johnburnssucks on Dec 19, 2007 at 08:45 AM

She meet the guy at her church, and she has in other articles held herself up as a christian.

My buddy Gary in San Diego signed his sixteen-year-old daughter up for a Christian program that was intended to - among other things - keep teenage girls from getting pregnant. She met a young man on a trip to the Pacific Northwest and got pregnant (Gary wasn't too upset, though. He said he likes "the grandpa thing.")

Funny thing about hormones and sperm.  Neither have any religious affiliations.
posted by witterpitters on Dec 19, 2007 at 08:53 AM

And I bet the boyfriend will not be arrested for statutory rape.

Several years ago my friends son (18) got his girlfriend (16) pregnant.  They got married with the full knowledge of all parents.  After baby was born the kids split and the boy asked for a divorce. The mom of the girl then filed a complaint with the BPD/DA for statutory rape - the young man was arrested!!!  He got probation, totally took responsibility and paid child support.  They were married for pete's sake!

Not necessarily. It could be like the guy who wrote "How to Invest in Real Estate"

He mentioned you as a "Good Bad Example" or "What Not to Do"

The more pitfalls and pratfalls that befall your RE "career" the better it is for him (by way of example)

he likes "the grandpa thing."  How much is he going to like the 'granpa thing' when he ends up supporting the daughter and child or gets left totally with the child to raise because daughter took off??????  Not beyond the realm of possibilities.

Don't these girls have a father...and how does he feel about how mommy is raising his kids...the timing is perfect..free publicity for the upcoming book...looks like they need a bigger trailer now...
posted by AudreyB on Dec 19, 2007 at 09:36 AM

Maybe Britney can give her little sister a few tips on parenting.

If it weren't for their singing careers and money, we would put this down as just another example of ignorant women begetting ignoriant daughters, begetting ignorant children.    The good news for taxpayers is, they aren't on welfare, foodstamps or WIC.

That didn't happen. The young man moved to San Diego for a while, then the two parents and baby moved to Washington. The little boy is six years old now.

Maybe the title of mommy's book should be " How I would have raised my daughters "......it's got to be fiction...

talk about wh*ring your children out! "OK! has agreed to pay $1 million to the younger Spears for a photo shoot when the child is born.

I just screamed at my TV!!  some idiot psychologist has just said...."This is a perfect opportuity for parents to talk to their children about how Jessica is taking responsibility - make it a positive thing"  OMG!  Never mind the mother has allowed this 19 year old boy to live with them! Does he not have a home? Parents? a job?  Never mind the message Jessica is sending due to her popularity on TV!   As far as I'm concerned this is the perfect time to tell your children how IRRESPONSIBLE these people are!  This is how NOT to live your life!

The baby daddy drama is with  aidren Aldridge a high school bf of hers, to be honest i think this is ridiculous. now the entire spears name is ashamed from crazy momma brit to underage jamie having a pregnancy. But i will not raise my children to be prudes i will tell them they can make their own choices in life and accept the consequences and if they mkake the wrong choice i will not be there to bail them out and they are on their own. I waited for marriage at the age of 23 and i only been with one woman since  and thas my ex wife even up to today. But i dont expect my kids to do the same. I expect them to make the right decisions

And the reason for my remark earlier: from tzm.com

Now, a source at the Enquirer has leaked us the letter Jamie Lynn's lawyers sent them at the time.

It's priceless!

It reads:

Ms. Spears is a devout Christian with a spotless reputation, who lives in accordance with the highest moral and ethical standards in accordance with her faith.

There is no “rumor” concerning Ms. Spears’ (non-existent) pregnancy, except perhaps for the baseless “rumor” just now being created by the National Enquirer.

Ms. Spears is not pregnant. It is pathetic for the National Enquirer to attempt to create a wholly baseless “rumor” that Ms. Spears is pregnant, so it can run a malicious story and false story which would be emotionally devastating to a morally upright 16 year old girl.”

Who knows? The National Enquirer is not know for it's high standards.  Could be a fake report.
