Are all comics lovers now in San Diego?
The real question is, "Do you have to be a nerd to go to the Comic-con convention?"
"It's fondly referred to as nerd prom," says Blair Butler, a comic-book expert who hosts a show on cable's G4 network. More than 100,000 are expected to attend the four-day event that began Thursday, (7/20/06) Associated Press reorted. The event has a long and storied history which includes George Lucas testing out his Star Wars film to the group in 1976. The Seth Cohen (actor Adam Brody) character on The OC is heavily into comics and that might lend itself to the nerdy image comics lovers have. But haven't we all indulged in comics? My favorites were MAD magazine and Archie's Pal Jughead back when I was a youth. I'm thinking cool people (well, like myself) like comics too. But, of course, I wouldn't be caught dead at a comics convention. How about you? Posted by Steve E. Swenson 8 comments from 5 users

I was a DC fan and thus looked down on Marvel fanatics (who sneered at me.) I loved the storyline of M. Night Shaymalan's "Unbreakable," because it was so familiar. Did you know the USPS is releasing a sheet of (DC) superhero stamps at the convention? . And what's wrong with being a nerd? :) I never went to a ComicCon but attended several science-fiction ones, including the 1984 WorldCon at Anaheim, where they didn't let us wear our 1984-themed teeshirts into Disneyland. posted by

Steve, I learned from childhood the funny papers were the intellectual part of a newspaper. I have a photo 1939 of my brother and I in the yard of our home with the Californian funny papers spread out on our laps. As the years rolled by my opinion has not changed, though many strips are no longer funny. Sam Heath
