Hollywood types are more self-absorbed
Narcissism is one of those words I can spell but can't pronounce.

But the word was derived from Narcissus, a Greek mythological fellow who loved a lovely, girl, Echo, but she died and then he looked at himself in a pool of water and was so enraptured with his own beauty that he withered away and died staring at himself.

That could happen to me if my eyebrows weren't so bushy.

At any rate, Los Angeles Times reporter Robin Abcarian wrote a story about whether celebrities are more narcissistic than the rest of us.

Turns out they are, but not because they are celebrities, but because they were born that way.

Such is a scientific finding of Dr. Drew Pinsky, who has lots of doctor credentials and was the host of "Loveline," a call-in radio show. He tested 200 celebrities who appeared on the show with his former co-host, Adam Carolla.

Carolla wasn't happy Dr. Drew used the show as a research opportunity, and then reacted to the results saying, "Who cares? Is this groundbreaking, that celebrities are narcissistic? I mean, this is like you found out Liberace was gay."

Well, the question is do you care? And who would you think is a narcissistic celebrity? And have you looked at yourself in a pool of water lately?

I believe you have it backwards.  Echo loved Narcissus, who doesn't die but takes root as a flower bent over the water's surface.
.
Shall we continue the analogy?  Echo is the American public, who'd rather hear about Britney Spears' lastest romps than matters of state.  Eventually, such adoration must take its toll on whatever humility actors may have (there must be some), as the public fades away to nothing more than a voice echoing whatever it's told, and the actors become more and more plantlike.
.
That Ovid, he one hip dude.  Musta watched a lot of E!
