Opening presents early — SHAME on you
On Dec. 2, four days before my wife's birthday, the new printer I bought her as a birthday present was fully operational.

I was shocked it was out of its box. I had planned to do a wonderful job wrapping it.

Meanwhile, my stepdaughter, Lori,  has opened her Christmas present, and I-phone she received from her friend, Andrea.

And she has opened and has operated a new computer she received from her mother and me for Christmas.

I would note that Christmas is still Dec. 25, some days off into the future.

I will get two new golf clubs for Christmas, an R-X7 driver and a hybrid 4-iron. While I could have used them in a tournament on Sunday, they were safely in a closet waiting for Christmas.

We haven't even yet put up the Christmas tree.

I am taking the moral high ground — waiting until the designated day to open my presents.

The women in the family say they have always opened presents early as long as there wasn't a man to stop them. (I was out playing golf when they broke into their presents).

Do any of you open presents early?

If so, are you ASHAMED of yourself?

How are you going to set the screw/weights on that R-X7, Steve? Maximum hook or maximum slice?

A reporter/writer can afford a new driver AND a new hybrid? And here I thought only the firemen made too much money....

Robb,
I always aim down the middle.

OldBlue,
 I married up.

For the exchange between those who live with me,Mr.Sage, the dog Lady..I wait for the actual day. For friends who drop by we usually exchange and open..but a tad closer to the festivities.

I'm delivering Hanukkah presents Thursday.  Usually we exchange on New Year's, but I can't wait...

I always wait to open; however, it is much more difficult for me to wait to give...for instance, I am simply dying to give my son the new pajamas I bought him! The ones he is wearing are falling apart, and I know he will love the new ones.

Never, Steve.  I hate to receive gifts early!   Hubby can't stand waiting to GIVE and I have to fight him off.  It's crazy.  I just re read that and it's not as bad as it sounds.  Once he's bought a gift, he can't wait to give it.  It really doesn't matter how I put it, it just doesn't come out sounding the way I'd like it.

After we return from church on Christmas Eve, everyone is allowed to open one gift that is already under the tree.  These are generally the ones from out of town relatives that I put out as they arrive in the mail.  Everything else waits until Christmas Day.

I also like the anticipation as much as the gift usually.  As a child we opened on Christmas Eve, with our kids it was all on Christmas morning, I just liked to make them crazy.

Stevie,

I'm sure the only Christmas gift your lovely wife REALLY wants is for you to get all better. The rest is just stuff.

L.
