Staying home the first day you are sick
It only took 58 years for me to figure this out.
Yesterday, I was getting sick — had a sore throat, the same first symptom my wife had the week before that cause her to be sick for about 5 days. Being sick for five days would seriously hamper my golf schedule, so I decided for the first time in my life, to stay home on the first day. My usual practice was to tough it out until I didn't have to stay home at all, or I had to stay home because it was so bad I couldn't work. Me being sick at all is a relatively rare occurrence. Well, low and behold, a day in bed with Cloraseptic and DayQuil brought me right back to life. Good to know. Probably better for my co-workers who I didn't expose. So this is a personal testimonial to this ages-old advice. Have you had this kind of experience? Posted by Steve E. Swenson 5 comments from 5 users

I believe that by the time a person is showing symptoms, he/she has already started spreading virus around. . But I also believe in Preventive Sick Leave (PSL), as in "If I don't take the day off, I'm going to be sick." posted by

I had a similar experience earlier this wk as well. I was sure I was getting the flu...had been up all night coughing, blowing nose, sneezing etc, had a low fever. Called in sick. Spent the day with Airborne, TheraFlu, orange juice and a good movie or two. The next day I felt much better. Still have a cold, but nothing I can't handle. Hope I am not spreading it, tho most of the people at my workplace are already coughing, blowing nose, etc. However, in the past Ive been known to call in with vision problems, ie. "I just can't see myself coming into work today." posted by
