eyeofbakersfield - > Eye of Bakersfield -> Trashing the movie theaters
Trashing the movie theaters
My bride and I saw Breach yesterday. Most of the audience seemed older and mature.

But as we left, we saw the usual popcorn, drinks and candy wrappers strewn throughout almost every row.

This absolutely amazes me that so many people can be such slobs in a public place.
There is a trash can right outside the door where they can dump their garbage.

Am I the only one bothered by this terrible display of trashiness?

It's everywhere, Steve.  Parking lots, fast-food joints, school cafeterias...no, you're not the only one bothered.  I don't know what can be done about it, since the slobs apparently are planning on raising slob children, from what I can see.  My kids knew better from an early age.   One of my church's commandments is "wherever you are, help pick up the litter."

Isn't that what they pay the ushers for? OK, I'm kidding, but having worked in a movie theater a long (long) time ago, that's exactly the attitude of a lot of the patrons. The 2 times in the last 5 years that I've been to the movies, I threw away my own trash, but I might have dropped a few kernels of popcorn on the floor. Sorry about that.

BTW, movies are a ripoff. Especially the popcorn & soda. (like that's anything new)

What's next?  It should be, when the film is ending a quick blib says put your trash in the containers when exiting....AHHH, what am I thinking, that'll NEVER work!

Watch out for the $1 show, you'll get LICE!  A friend took their kids, awhile back, and I saw him at Rite Aid, trying to find how to get rid of the little boogers.

We sneak in bottle soda and treats....always bring a blanket, it seems we always freeze there.  Then again, I only see a couple  movies a year....and it's always kid related....*sigh*  YES, they are a rip-off.....popcorn and a video at home.....way better.

Trash strewn about is one of the many gripes I have with audience's theater etiquette.

It seems not only are people unable to clean up after themselves, they are unwilling or unable to BE QUIET during movies.  I love going to movies, and my girlfriend and I go quite frequently.  But it seems that over half the time we go, we end up with someone right behind us that does not understand the extremely intricate art of not talking for an hour and a half.

Cell phones are a whole other story....I don't think I've ever gone to a movie in the last 2-3 years where I haven't heard a cell phone go off.  I mean c'mon people!  These things have been around for years now, is it that hard to at least set your phones to "vibrate?"

I could go on and on, but you get the picture.

"Bunch of savages in this town" is a movie line I repeat almost incessantly whenever out in public...

Since I signed up for Netflix I haven't been a movie-goer.  However, as I recall, "trashing" the place is part of the culture!  It is like going to a baseball game or a football game; there are no trash bins at the end of the aisle!  Steve,  are you suggesting people carry off their rubbish at the end of these events?  Sorta like putting up a sign to "bus your own table", it takes a culture shift.

I just hate when people talk on their cellphones the whole time and the fact that I step in a huge puddle of soda and my shoes feel sticky the rest of the day.  Sigh...

Woof

They could stop the movie 5 minutes from the end and not start up again until everything was neat and tidy.  That should do it.

I like the movies but avoid them because of the people.  Except FLICS at the Fox, the audience is lovely.

Steve

I had to comment on this blog after I watched the Academy Awards Show last night ~ Jerry Seinfeld stood up on-stage and went on and on about how 'he' / 'we' are supposed to throw our cups and wrappers (and such) on-the-floor of the theater since they over-charge for the items in concession.  One step forward and 3 steps back...
