Good news — kit foxes have returned to the East Hills Mall
And who says we don't report good news?

Three years ago, two adult kit foxes and four pups were killed during a landscaping project at the East Hills Mall.

This week, a new family of kit foxes have been spotted near the same place where the 2004 tragedy occurred.

Two adults and up to six pups are inhabiting a den, according to the Cal State Stanislaus Endangered Species Recovery Program.

The adults are out eating gophers, squirrels and the ever-popular human castoffs of pizza and Taco Bell treats.

Doesn't that make you feel good all over?

We had foxes at our home in Stallion Springs, and I took many photos of them while they were doing away with our leftovers on the patio. One even dared to poke his head into the back door. They are adorable, and I miss seeing them since I moved.

The Mall manager, Tommie Sparks, sounds like a jerk. She's in complete denial.

Anyone know what punishment was metted out to those who killed the last occupants of the den? I just want to know what'll happen in six months when this family is wiped out......

That story in 04 broke my heart too woof. It does make me feel all warm and fuzzy that they are back.

A balance had been restored.  That was such a sad story in '04.  It almost seemed like they killed *ALL* the kit foxes back then.  Almost drove them to extinction.  Good news!  I was wondering why I haven't seen as many squrriels.  Now I know why!

Kit Foxes taste like chicken, they are tasty little suckers when grilled and brushed w/ BBQ sauce.
