Californian reporter Erin Waldner has written a story about tips to make your garden thrive while you wilt in the summer sun.
Your garden would also wilt if you didn't water, fertilize, trim mulch and see how it is doing.
The question is whether you have special tips on how to keep a dazzling garden in the oppressive summers.

Gaylen Young, business reporter and anchor at KGET-TV, Channel 17, is leaving after 23 years.
The company confirmed he was leaving. Gaylen says he was offered different work — more of the hard hitting variety — and higher pay, but he decided to leave because he felt his real niche was covering business.
I like hard hitting reporting. I like a reader or a viewer saying in his kitchen chair, "My God, Martha, look at this."
But I like Gaylen Young's style of...
The purpose of this blog is not to point out that my wife and I are better people than you, although that may be collateral information.
But in today's newspaper on tree shade in parking lots, we ran a photograph that showed a string a shopping carts parked on a sidewalk next to the trees which didn't offer much shade.
That raised the issue of whether people (specifically you) leave shopping carts all over the lot, or whether you return them to the store or cart area in the lot.
Some...
Two people in our newsroom have had problems with flight cancellations or delays while they are out of town, resulting in long delays or re-routing to Los Angeles as a way to get back to Bakersfield.
We're wondering if that has happened to you or anyone you know.
The delays have been up to two days.
Reporter Stacey Shepard is looking into this issue. You can e-mail her at sshepard@bakersfield.com or call her work phone at 395-7272.

Californian reporter James Geluso wrote a story about how the Kern Mosquito and Vector Control District kills mosquitoes or their larvae.
While fascinating in the sense of "The Shooter" movie and how Mark Wahlberg was going to eliminate all the bad guys, the point of this blog is whether you actually ever get bit by a mosquito in Bakersfield.
And my experience over the past 29 years is no.
One year maybe about 15 years ago or so, there was a horrendous mosquito problem at...
We have cooling centers in Bakersfield, as well as other parts of Kern County when the temperature reaches a certain level.
In Bakersfield, it is 105 degrees.
I think the problem with that is the temperature is taken at Meadows Field which is one to several degrees cooler than more urban areas.
Cement and buildings add to the air temperature. So 103 at Meadows may be 106 at Martin Luther King Blvd. and California Avenue.
There's no cooling center issue in the winter, but my...
A competition will begin Sunday for the best male and female karaoke singer in Kern County.
People can enter at any of eight bars where during the next eight weeks, the best singers will be narrowed down to the best at each of the venues.
The prize is $500. Details will be in the July 6 Eye Street Section.
I love great karaoke.
Bad karaoke, not so much.
I don't do karaoke because I am bad.
I'm not suggesting audiences be mean to bad karaoke acts, but hold the...
So I'm working in the fireworks stand July 4 at All Saints Episcopal Church, and it is really hot in there.
A little girl about 9 years old named Paige was just outside, wearing a blue dress and having red, white and blue hairpins for each of her two ponytails, as she was selling lemonade for 25 cents a glass.
The price alone is amazing.
She spent the heat of the day selling lemonade. As she was about to leave, I asked how much she made. Her reply, "$61."
I'm thinking...
Note to David Cohn:
Don't put me on this jury.
Cohn, who is a friend of mine, has filed a lawsuit alleging a Bakersfield eye doctor bought fireworks that led to an eye injury for a teenager.
The doctor, James Shuler, said the allegations in the lawsuit are wrong.
Doesn't matter to me. Cohn said three teenagers were setting off Roman Candles and shooting them at each other.
That's the end of the story for me.
Teens know better than that. I'm sorry about the eye injury,...
C is an average grade. Passable in schools.
Not sure how passable it is in restaurants.
Beginning Monday, restaurants in Kern County will get a grade — A, B, C or closed — on whether they are meeting cleanliness and health standards.
There' s a lot of technical stuff behind the letter grades, but basically, the higher the grade, the better the chance the food won't produce anything more harmful than a burp or a fat belly.
Do you think this report card system is a good...
