Welcome to the new Fired Up! blog
Welcome to the new version of our Bakersfield.com blogs.

As you can tell, there are some big changes. We have moved from our original blog provider, Typepad. Now we are running our blogs on our own system, the same one we use for our user profiles and blogs.

So what does this mean for our loyal blog readers? Well, a couple things.

First off, to comment on our new blogs you need to be registered with Bakersfield.com. You don’t have to have your name attached with your posts. You can choose to post anonymously. But you have to be registered. You can sign up here. Curious about what we use the info for? Here is our privacy page.

Don’t want your real name used? No problem. You can pick an online handle. And others will be prevented from masquerading as you.

FYI, If you just want to read the blogs, you do not have to be registered.

So what does the new blog system offer? Well you can customize your comments a lot more than before. You can add links, images, even tables.

And if you want to start your own blog to share your opinions, you can do that too.

Got ideas or comments on our new blogs? Feel free to leave a comment or send me an e-mail.

Your right about losing your loyal bloggers. Hope this and the new bloggers, if any have fun.

So when will we be seeing some topics here to comment on?
posted by pachecod on Jul 8, 2006 at 02:56 PM
Actually there are a lot of comments, just not on this blog yet. For example, check out this thread that received 50 comments:
http://people.bakersfield.c...

We will be introducing some features next month that will surface commenting in many more places on the site, and also make it easier to find active discussions.

Discrminiation isn't just against the blacks.  Ever been called "Cracker"?   I have, and I didn't know what it meant until my black co-worker used it numerous times and I asked what she meant by it.  Hey, it's the opposite of "Negre" for whites.   Oh, Ok, I get it now!

Shall us whites gather up a protest and march against the blacks for discriminiation?  Would us crackers even do this?  Shall we have a town meeting and preach on the steps of city hall in protest?  Probably not.  Just the same, I didn't appreciate it and let it slide.  My bosses didn't do a thing about it and let it go and turned a blind eye.

No topics yet?  I guess it's good news that Bakersfield hasn't offered anything to get all fired up over recently.

Looks like no one at the Californian is "Fired Up"

This was created June 23rd 2006 and as of today, September 4, 2006 there are a grand total of *NO* topics.

Go Figure.

I submitted a "letter to the editor" a few days ago, and Diane Hardisty decided not to run it, heres the letter, as best as I can remember, I did not save it.
" Many Media stations are promoting, and advertising a boxing event at the Dome, and I thought someone should notify Craig Jehelko, at ch 23, as I am pretty sure it will be a guarenteed fight night, heres a watch a out to the folks at the Dome, Craigs coming to get ya.
 GO CONDORS !
Ms Hardisty responded that the Paper did not take complaints of other Media outlets, and that I should contact ch 23.
with the crap that I see in the LTTE section all the time, I was very surprised, and I will be se urprised if she allows this to be posted !

OK...The TRUTH...The computer guys changed to this format and I was swamped with other stuff. I'm a basic technophobe so I was a bit intimidated. Then, I went on vacation.

Excuses, excuses. You are correct. Slam me. I deserve it. But we're baaacccckkk. We will soon be posting the bios and questionnaires we are receiving from the local candidates. We will post them in a group so you can easily find them. As in the primary, you can then post your questions and comments. We will present them to the various candidates.

So, at first you will not be getting random blogging from the FIRED UP! staff. Rather you will be getting the questionnaires to chew.

I promise to do better.

Sorry.

I commend the Californian for creating this FIRED UP! blog for comments and questions from voters and responses from candidates; however, (personal agenda warning) I strongly suggest that you add one more page.  With over 62,000 voters, approximately 28,000 students, 43 schools, over 4,000 employees, and touted as the largest elementary school system in California, shouldn't the trustee election for the Bakersfield City School District be considered as one of the "key local races"?
This year's BCSD election highlights additional "newsworthy" agenda items:  The district has a $100 million bond issue before the voters;  the BCSD trustee board has unfortunately been established as the "springboard" of choice for candidates seeking to build political party support in order to run for city and county offices (more so than the Kern High School District), and one candidate has questioned the qualifications of administrative officials of the district.  These might be issues about which your blog readers may want to ask questions.

Let's see.  September 24 to October 21 - why, that's twenty-eight days!  And no one, including the Bakersfield Californian, has responded to my call for the candidates of the Bakersfield City School District Board of Education to be included in this Fired Up Blog.
Perhaps, in a few years when the district has been taken over by the state and is no longer under the control of the local community, someone, somewhere in town might take an interest in what is going on in the BCSD.
You can hold a lighted match and stare at the flame but eventually, if you don't take action, it will burn your fingers.

October 24th and the match continues to burn.
