ghostriter - > I'm Still Kicking! -> Manic Thursday
Manic Thursday

Yesterday, there was a full moon. I am certain of it. No, I realize that the full moon was last week, but I am convinced that we were being influenced by the full moon on another planet in some parallel universe or something. All day long, we encountered people at our office who acted as if they had escaped from the psych ward. By the time my lunch hour came, I was seriously thinking of drinking my lunch.

First, a woman came in who is honestly in the running for one of the five worst people I have ever dealt with in my entire career. She started out by berating the first person she saw when she walked in and continued to escalate her language to the level of truly abusive. The doctor came out and ousted the cretin from our building when she started getting physical with one of our staff, who was reduced to tears by the entire episode. I am seriously considering sending this woman a note in a plain white envelope with one single question: "Do you really think it is wise to threaten strangers who know your address?"

Later, a man came in who simply would not stop talking, no matter what. He monopolized my friend for ten minutes, during which she was unable to do any work or attempt to help any of the people lining up at her desk behind Mr. Motormouth. In an attempt to rescue her, I finally picked up my phone and called her on the other line. She talked to me on the phone as if I were a patient until the guy finally backed away. I was glad to see him finally sit down, and I know she was relieved. She was getting really tired of hearing the intimate details of his divorce, I could just tell. I think the other patients in the waiting room were sick of hearing about it, too.

Then, a woman brought in the most obnoxious child I have seen in a long time. This girl was ten years old and had the nastiest attitude I have seen in a child that age since...well, since I was that age. (I was a real brat for a while. Still am, actually.) She spoke to me and to her mother as if we were nothing but gnats who were flying in her face, annoying her. Normally, I really love kids, and I am good with them. I can almost always cheer up a child who is upset because they need glasses, or because they don't need them, which happens more often. Not this kid. She was one big drag, from start to finish. I looked at her chart and discovered that the girl was on two antidepressants. I shudder to think what the brat would have been like without them.

I was so glad to see five-thirty finally roll around, and I crawled into my car anticipating going home to a quiet house, loving kitties, a playful dog and a vodka tonic. My day was not over, however. On the way home on the 58 freeway, a woman in a silver SUV with an Arizona license plate passed me, and I was shocked by what I saw; she was reading a book while driving! She had a paperback open and propped on the steering wheel, and I watched as she repeatedly looked down at the book, then glanced up, and down again. I honked my horn at her. When she looked in my direction, I rotated my finger around the side of my head in a classic "you're crazy" gesture. She threw a different gesture at me, and then accellerated to at least 90 and flew down the freeway ahead of me. At least she put down the book first. It was about then that I spotted one of those "report drunk drivers; call 911" signs, and I seriously considered calling and reporting her for DUI. How are the cops to know that, in this case, DUI means Driving UnIntelligent.

So far, today has been relatively uneventful. Oh, wait...I'd better knock wood. You never know when the next full moon will occur...somewhere.

I made a tin foil liner for my ball cap. I have hopes that it will protect me from those bad political vibes.

Oh no.  I didn't realized it was this serious!   I have to go for a while.  Have to go get more foil from the store so I will be protected.  Thanks for letting me know what I have been missing!  I just hope there hasn't been too much damage done already!

Will you guys please elaborate on the "tin foil hat"?  I have seen the reference several times, most recently here and DirtyShirt the other day.  I must know so I may be protected too!!!

Rickldo:  I'll make you one.  As long as you don't have some problem like your skull being too big for the rest of you.  I don't want to waste foil.  At any rate, I think my husband and I had a walk in the park compared to your day!  Oh, and I hadn't considered that we could have been in an 18-wheeler going along all those one-way (and narrow) streets!  Always look on the bright side.  Look for the silver lining -- but only in your foil hat!  And all that.

And I second the motion:  nice post, ghost.

ALICEN ~ Remember the comment I made about two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts do? It's even tougher with one-way streets and 18 wheels. As a recent occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave once said, "I feel your pain". I really should have worn my tin foil hat today.

So it WASN'T just me...

Thursday, I crushed my pinkie, tore a shirt and had to remove a 3/4 inch wooden dagger of a splinter from the web of my right hand, all before noon.

I've been off all day but ran errands today, all the while thinking "there's a lotta traffic for a Saturday". For an entire hour I forgot what day it was, only realizing my error at 4:40pm, on Rosedale Hwy, near Coffee...crap, it's freakin FRIDAY. Not just Friday, its Friday AFTERNOON. I have planned days around avoiding this situation!

What a week, in my "real" life and in the blogosphere. Can we blame it on the last day of winter? Spring has sprung, just today, even if its already 80 degrees! Welcome to March Madness...Bako style!

<edit> Nice post...ghost!

It's funny how all the crazy things happen at once like that.  Back when I used to work at the jail it never failed, usually during the full moon, that we'd get a flood of detainees--and for the craziest charges, too!  They would be arrested for public indecency, vandalism causing $25,000 in damage, tampering with power lines, etc.  It was rare to see charges like that--we usually saw traffic charges like DUI and driving on a suspended license, and the occasional robbery or violation of parole.

Plus, I had a friend who was convinced that the jail had a ghost.  Actually, it was a favorite story among all the people that worked at the jail, but this person really believed it, I think.  Anyway, the jail is really a super-creepy building, with all these winding hallways down in a cavernous, dark basement filled with rotting cafeteria furniture lit by the occasional exposed yellow bulb--creepy.  Some of my co-workers had some pretty terrifying experiences down in those basement hallways--coming across a homeless guy who had snuck in and fallen asleep sitting bolt upright with his eyes half open, etc. And it never failed that the ghost "Misty" would appear during full moons, by banging pipes or throwing files from filing shelves, throwing filing cabinets open or creating havoc in some fashion.  It probably didn't help that we worked the night shift--all alone in that big, empty office, surrounded on all sides by dark, silent offices.

Or maybe we were just paranoid!  LOL!

Nancy:  WHY didn't I remember that?!!  Of COURSE it was the full moon residual gamma ray moon beams!.  I thought for a while there that I could save my foil hat for when I REALLY needed it, but instead I'd better be making a new one -- or two.  And keep one on at all times.  Just in case.

It's the full moon residual gamma ray moon beams causing all the problems.  Remember your tin foil hat.  It protects you from the rays AND from the wacko political people.

dreamifucan:  I thought it was today, too!  It's possible there's a full moon and you just can't see it, right?

My husband and I were going to a place we'd never been in a part of town we don't visit often.  He had gotten a map and driving directions from the Internet.  We got to where the place should have been, but it was NOWHERE to be seen.  We finally found a place to park, whereupon I called the place we were going to get directions.  After hanging up, I knew instinctively that whatever she'd said was useless.  And we were still attempting to operate with the printed driving directions from the Internet.

After driving around a while, we found another parking place and my husband called our destination again.  We knew by then that they were at the point of believing WE were asylum escapees.

As background, the town has streets where nearly every other one is one-way.  So you can see how circular our little trip was beginning to be.

After the THIRD call, we FINALLY found the place!  If the driving directions had told us to look on the LEFT instead of the RIGHT, we would have found it somewhat earlier.  In addition to which numbers on buildings apparently meant nothing.  We were looking for a "57"; we were looking on odd-numbered addresses; but SO WHAT???  It wasn't there!!

After all that, we got there five minutes earlier than our appointment.  My husband was nearly in meltdown by then, and I was wondering what to do in case he had a stroke, but we made it!!!  Full moon, go away!!!

You know, bandmom, I remember that. I did home day care for two years when my youngest was born and I realized that after paying child care for three kids, I'd have about 27 bucks left of my weekly check. The season or weather changes do affect them.

sage, what's up w/ the pup?

What a day! It only reinforces why I rarely leave the house, though the poor pup next door who whines, barks and howls may force me to change that behavior~ lol! Hopefully today will be a better one!

Wow, I thought it was just me!  I care for 6 children ages 2 & 3 and they were absolutely crazy yesterday.  They displayed behavior that was very unusual for them such as lots of hitting, pushing, yelling and CRANKINESS!   They are usually a happy group with just a few of these incidents.  I was absolutely exhausted yesterday when everyone went home.  They are pretty much back to normal today and the little angels are sleeping now.  :)

I have been in the child care business for 28 years and it seems that the children do this when the seasons change.  I can't explain why but it happens every season change.
