A Really Big Burger
My oldest boy came to my office yesterday to take me to lunch. This is a real treat; in the time I have worked here, I can count on one hand the times Alex has been here. But he had a couple hours to kill between his classes, so he took pity on poor old Mom and came to brighten my day. When he asked where we could go, I suggested Moo Creamery, which is directly across the parking lot from my office. "Great," he said, "I'm starving and I want a really big burger." When we got there, I ordered my favorite salad, and Alex ordered a bacon double cheeseburger. The cashier told him that the bacon cheeseburger usually only came with one patty, but she would be happy to have the chef slap another patty on the grill for him. "Great," Alex told her, "and add a side of fries, too." When our orders came out, we both nearly dropped our teeth. The chef/owner set a plate before Alex, in the center of which was the biggest burger we had ever seen. "Good Luck," she said as she walked away. As Alex contemplated the monster meal in front of him, the lady sitting at the next table leaned toward us. "I just want to see you try and bite into that," she said with a big grin. Alex not only bit into it; he finished that huge burger before I could finish my salad. I guess he was starving. The chef returned, and patted Alex on the back. "I'm impressed; I didn't think you could do it," she beamed, and then she put the untouched fries in a "doggy box" for us to take. As we sat there digesting, the lady at the next table spoke up again. "My son is coming home from college soon; I'm bringing him here to get one of those burgers." "Great," Alex replied, with a quiet burp. "Just tell him he won't need the fries." 15 comments from 8 users

Moo's pretty awesome. Food's super tasty, very fresh - I love it. Went there last night and had their chilli with some delicious cornbread - yummy! - as a side to start out with. But beware, if you get that, you won't need fries either! posted by

Do they always cook their burgers on the rare side? I noticed it looked a pink in the center of the second picture. If so, my dad would love it (he likes his beef still mooing, heh) but my mom would freak out (well, well, well done for her, even if it's rubberized). posted by

Yes, they normally cook to medium rare unless asked to do differently. They are the only place I know of that doesn't routinely ruin their beef! posted by

Moo Creamery is really, really good. I've been there about four or five times, and everything was excellent except the rigatoni-something-or-other, which was a daily special. So far I've had a burger (it was one of the spicy ones--I forget which. Excellent!,) the onion rings (beer battered, soooo crispy and wonderful--my second favorite thing on the menu,) the chicken strips (on the kids menu, but they'll still give it to you, and my very favorite item--also beer battered and crispy,) the cheesecake (creamy and wonderful,) an old-fashioned Brooklyn egg cream (pretty much a chocolate soda--very good) and two ice cream flavors--the peppermint-something-or-other and the grape? sorbet (the grape sorbet was just okay, but the peppermint was awesome!) I also had something else which was one of the specials and it was really good, but I forget what it was (great memory I got.) My Mom also highly recommends the brownie. I love this place. It's really cheerful, too, so I like to take the kids there. BTW ghost--I'm glad you had a good lunch with you son. Now you got me on a Moo Creamery kick, though!!! I want chicken strips NOW!!! posted by

I'll have to tell my parents since it sounds right up my dad's alley food-wise... and make sure to tell my mom to express her desires to have a very well-done burger so she'll actually go back after the first visit, heh. posted by

* no doubt after this link, the business should boom for them ... hopefully they can be consistant , that is one of my pet peeves, love a place one day, and brag to all my friends, then go again and it stinks ... i will give it a try for sure, and report back on how good (or not) the Monte Cristo tastes ... i can t wait ! they have alot of information on their web page too, (no, i am not gonna include the link...) BUT ~ you all are computer savvy and can figure it out ! LOL posted by

This has turned into a restaurant review, but that's okay! Moo Creamery is on Truxtun just east of Mohawk, near the Paragon Spa...you know, that fancy place with the domed roof. It is owned and operated by a newlywed couple who are both chefs, and VERY good ones, at that! Their menu includes seasonal changes, holiday specials, and some of the most unusual flavors of ice cream I have ever seen. (Guiness, bacon love, drunk newton, bourbon bread pudding, etc.) posted by

They should apply to be on Hells Kitchen, maybe then ~ that show will have actual 'cooks' on there for once, worthy to be running a 4-star restaurant ! The show does make me laugh, tah tah ~ but it sounds like there's real talent right here in Bako ! Good for us ! posted by

goldilox - I've been to Moo at least a dozen times, probably more, and my food's been consistently delicious. So hopefully it will hold up for you with odds like that! My husband happened to have had the Monte Cristo for the first time yesterday - beware, it defeated him after two thirds of it and he had to take the rest home. He did say it was good and had the rest for lunch today. posted by

That's the one I had, Sioux! Mmmmm. It was so good. I don't think you could eat two, though--not if you order the onion rings with it, and the old fashioned Brooklyn egg cream too. It's worth a try though, huh? ; ) posted by
