What do you think local police agencies should do about enforcing immigration?

Police should arrest every illegal immigrant they come across.Immigration should be left to federal authorities.Local police should arrest only illegal immigrants who break the law, not victims or witnesses.

I like Audrey's approach, but the last part about helping Mexico create jobs for them I'm not so crazy about.  I don't think it's a good idea to get involved in Mexico's stuff.  I don't want my tax dollars used to help influence or run a foriegn country.  I'm not saying it doesn't happen now.  I'm just saying I don't think it's the right thing to do.

There needs to be some form of punishment for those who come here illegally.  I would suggest sending them back to whichever country they came from.  You know, a lot of legals come here legally and then overstay there visas.  These people also need to be sent back home.  How can we expect people to respect our laws when we are not willing to enforce them?

This brings me to my next point.  There is obviously incentive for people to come here illegally.  We need to eliminate that incentive.  This means enforcing the laws.  Secure the borders.  Harsher penalties for businesses who hire illegals.  This might even need to include jail time.  A big company can afford a fine, but can they afford time?

Even if illegal immigrants help the economy, which I disagree with, our economy would eventually fall for lack of respect for the law of the land.  If the law means nothing...I think you see where I'm going with this.  I love that people want to come to American, I just want it done legally so our country can survive.  This is all it really comes down to.

Give it time, the drug cartels will have a say as to the way Mexico will be ran...when they offer the government soldiers more money to join them..well, you see where this is going....especially when ' the illegals' get wind that they can make more money back home in a warehouse packing up dope for all points around the world...who wants to hang around ' Home Depot ' for work......

We should just annex Mexico and make them all U.S. citizens. Either that or change the law so they're not illegals. But that's too easy.

i have to agree with timec....

Gube, you've got a point there.  We've got to start deporting those scofflaws laughing at our registration laws.  As a side benefit, we'll have fewer traffic jams.

RF Most crime against illegal aliens are by illegal aliens. Most wont support the crime because their illegal and fear deportation. Don't give me this ''as a group their more law abiding'' because that's BS.

Whens the last time a citizen who forgot to register his car was deported?????? It ain't the same!

Note my caveat.  With the most recent raids, it appears certain that the employers were the real lawbreakers, setting up phony documentation for the workers.  If employers were prosecuted, there'd be no market for undocumented aliens. But they vote Republican, so they'll get off scot-free.

And being an "illegal alien" is *STILL* similar in offense to failing to register your car on time.

.

Note what Audrey said:  If they break the criminal law, they should be treated as criminals.  But as a group, "illegal aliens" are more law-abiding than most segments of society.

Random. I'm supprised, "YOU", of all people, agreed with Audrey. I agree with her as well.

I might add to deporting those who hire illegals, they should have to pay a hefty fine for each day the illegal alien works.

I agree with Audrey, except that the employers need to be deported alongside the workers they hired.

.

Note that I do not consider being undocumented a "crime" in and of itself.  And neither does the Federal Government.

I'm with Audrey on this one.

Police should arrest every illegal they come across. Months ago I did not feel like this but I do now. They all need to go away....

Illegals of every race...

Our illustrious sheriff donny, when questioned about why he violated Calif. law in regards to Marijuana Dispensaries, he claimed that he was required to enforce federal laws.  It would seem that donny has decided to pick and choose which federal laws he will enforce.  A little consistency would be nice.

People are going to think I'm harsh but I think the following should apply.

I think Illegals should be treated the same as  anyone else who breaks our laws.

Deportation for those caught working under a phony or stolen SS card.

Deportation for those caught working without a valid green card or other legal status documentation.

Deportation for those applying for benefits using false documents.

Prison for those convicted of committing a crime, then deportation when their sentence is completed.

America's efforts to stop illegal immigration should include helping Mexico create jobs for their citizens in their county.   It seems we're going about solving our immigration problems  a**backwards.

Police cannot "run across" anyone without probable cause. To the best of my knowledge, not carrying documentation when in public is not a crime. I've been asked to produce a driving license to prove I can legally operate a vehicle; I've never been arrested if my wallet is elsewhere. I've never had to prove my citizenship when talking to an officer. Producing papers on demand is too much like Soviet Russia or something.
