Priest: No communion for Obama supporters
St. Mary's Catholic Church should loose their tax exemption for taking such a radical political stance..lol....I would have taken Communion while wearing an Obama tee-shirt. Actually I will not attend a church that tries to push their radical political rhetoric. So how about the parishioners that support the death penalty....Are they to refused Communion......How about the parishioners that cheat on their wives/husbands......How about the parishioners that support the killing of Innocent Iraqi citizens........How about the parishioners that get drunk and beat their wives and kids do they still get Communion......It seems that this priest picks and chooses which sin to condemn. Priest says it's because the Democratic president-elect supports abortion AP news COLUMBIA, S.C. - A South Carolina Roman Catholic priest has told his parishioners that they should refrain from receiving Holy Communion if they voted for Barack Obama because the Democratic president-elect supports abortion, and supporting him "constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil." The Rev. Jay Scott Newman said in a letter distributed Sunday to parishioners at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grenville that they are putting their souls at risk if they take Holy Communion beefore doing penance for their vote. "Our nation has chosen for its chief executive the most radical pro-abortion politician ever to serve in the United States Senate or to run for president," Newman wrote, referring to Obama by his full name, including his middle name of Hussein. "Voting for a pro-abortion politician when a plausible pro-life alternative exits constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil, and those Catholics who do so place themselves outside of the full communion of Christ's Church and under the judgment of divine law. Persons in this condition should not receive Holy Communion until and unless they are reconciled to God in the Sacrament of Penance, lest they eat and drink their own condemnation." 5 comments from 4 users

Pope John Paul II. A consistent ethics of Life.
From: http://www.wisconsincatholi...
28. Abortion. Because the right to life is the most basic of all rights, and because unborn children are particularly innocent and defenseless, abortion retains a special priority among life issues. No life ethic that ignores the unborn's right to life can be called consistent. A consistent life ethic demands that the disciple grasp that the threat to life is found in many places. As Cardinal Joseph Bernardin pointed out on many occasions:
"If one contends, as we do, that the right of every unborn child should be protected from the moment of conception...then our moral, political, and economic responsibilities do not stop at the moment of birth! As we must defend the right to life of the weakest among us, we must also be supportive of the quality of life of the powerless among us. Consistency means we cannot have it both ways: we cannot urge a compassionate society and vigorous policies to protect the unborn and then argue that compassion and policies on behalf of the needy undermine the moral fibre of society."(9) 29. Our decision as disciples to apply the ethic systematically, by injecting it into issues whenever it is relevant, will strengthen the pro-life cause in general and the case against abortion in particular. Such an approach can sensitize society at large to the link between abortion and the pro-life implications of issues and policies concerning the family, the poor, the economy, the environment, and numerous other concerns. Far from diluting the efforts to protect life, a consistent life ethic gives these efforts new force.(10)

It's a moral/religious stance that has political implications. They will not be losing there tax exempt status, but feel free to remove that separation between church and state. posted by

The parishioners should also of course have nothing to do with the collection plate again, either. The priest, as so often happens, is an idiot. posted by

The priest, as so often happens, is an idiot. For his stance on abortion? Or following his conscious and not serving those support it. Barak couldn't even get behind banning infanticide.
