Vatican forgives John Lennon for Jesus quip

How arrogant of the Vatican to forgive Lennon for a comment that was true in most parts of the world.....And who gives a sh-t what the Vatican thinks anyway.....Do they also forgive all their pedophile priests for molesting little boys????? No the Vatican has no ground to stand on when it comes to blasphemy.....Hopefully GOD forgives the Vatican....

Reuters  VATICAN CITY - The Vatican's newspaper has finally forgiven John Lennon for declaring that the Beatles were more famous than Jesus Christ, calling the remark a "boast" by a young man grappling with sudden fame.

The comment by Lennon to a London newspaper in 1966 infuriated Christians, particularly in the United States, some of whom burned Beatles' albums in huge pyres.

But time apparently heals all wounds.

"The remark by John Lennon, which triggered deep indignation mainly in the United States, after many years sounds only like a 'boast' by a young working-class Englishman faced with unexpected success, after growing up in the legend of Elvis and rock and roll," Vatican daily Osservatore Romano said.

The article, marking the 40th anniversary of the Beatles' "The White Album," went on to praise the pop band.

"The fact remains that 38 years after breaking up, the songs of the Lennon-McCartney brand have shown an extraordinary resistance to the passage of time, becoming a source of inspiration for more than one generation of pop musicians," it said.

Lennon was murdered in New York in 1980.

Makes you wonder who had a better chance of gaining entrance into the pearly gates, the non believing, peace loving Lennon, or the 'infallable" Pope Alexander. I got my money on the mop haired boy.

Too late!  Lennon died about 30 years ago.

And the only thing that could make The Beatles seem less cool is an endorsement from The Vatican.  Yuck.

Well, I did say who "had a better chance" Cat. LOL

Alexander's been dead for 264 years!

What John actually said was this...

"Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I do not know what will go first, rock 'n' roll or Christianity...We're more popular than Jesus now."

In 1966 that was a fact... he didn't say they were "more important than"... or "greater than"... he said "more popular than"... and that my friends was so true in 1966.

Well Sioux, you found the time to post. ;)

Actually I played golf twice, went to a football game a hundred miles away, went Christmas shopping, visited my 82 year old mom, and still had time to crack wise on the blog.

You think it's that I'm a terrific multi-tasker, or has my wife been slippin' meth into my cereal?

BTW I think a lot of atheists DO turn non belief into a religion. But I do find it amusing that an organization with such a sordid past as the Catholic Church wants to forgive a guy whose whole mantra was Peace. Next thing you know they'll be forgiving Ghandi for not being a Christian.
