Liberal in a Red County
Kern County is one of the most conservative counties in California, but liberals, including myself, strongly continue to voice our perspectives and concerns.

What is a good urgent care center in Bakersfield? Southwest Hospital says they no longer offer it. I have a 102 degree temperature and waited an hour and a half for one and went home when they said another 45 minutes. They are going to call me when they are ready.

I think the doctors went to dinner. Let me know, so next time I will know where to go.

Thanks

Here's a list of what I found:

I also heard that Bakersfield Heart Hospital will take patients even if a patient's health concern isn't heart related.

There's a great Urgent Care on the corner of Calloway and Meacham in Rosedale.  It's called Senda's Urgent Care, and it's open 8:00am to 8:00 or 9:00pm.  I've been there for myself and the kids probably a dozen times in the last year, and they are awesome.  They also have a PAL blood lab there, plus an x-ray tech, so it's like one-stop shopping.  It's walk-in,  and there's sometimes a wait on the weekends of an hour or so, but on weekdays the usual wait is 15-20 minutes.

Sorry to hear you're sick.  : (   Get well soon.

Take two tylenols and drink lots of water.  Then get lots of rest.  What do you think a doctor is going to do??

hotandfoggy, I feel bad that you're sick and wish you well. Catherine's suggestion is a good one; I went there on Christmas Eve with a nasty sinus infection and my son went on Mother's Day for a black widow spider bite, and that's just in the last year. We all have some odd proclivity to get sick on holidays, so we know where to go. Prompt, competent treatment for sure.

I went to Concentra over by Mercy Southwest (on Stockdale Hwy across from CSUB) when my foot accidently met with 120lbs of cat litter last year. It was a pretty quick and pleasant experience. I showed up just after 5pm and was into x-ray and saw the doctor within an hour.

It's too late for tonight but the Urgent Care at BFMC on CA was awesome.  Barely a 10 minute wait, efficient staff, great doctor.

Schwaine,

I was at Concentra. I went home because my entire body was sore and I just wanted to lay down. They never called back. My mom's friend was there with her daughter and they arrived before us and hadn't been seen by the time we left. I really think the doctors were on their dinner break, because they weren't calling anybody in and nobody was leaving.

Ronmexico,

I took an aspirin when I got home and then four hours later I took two Ibuprofens. My fever did go down to 101.5. I think I have the flu. I just hope it's not the swine flu.

Catherine, vanity fair, and dgembe,

Next time I'll try Senda or Bakersfield Heart Hospital.

I have an appointment today with a doctor at 3pm.

Off topic, but be glad you all (I assume) have private insurance where you can just go into the Urgent Care. I can afford insurance through my employer, but have to wait until open enrollment to add my son. I have Kern Family Health Care through Healthy Families for now. My child had a 103 degree temperature and I was told at BFMC that I have to get the visit PRE-AUTHORIZED. I call Kern Families and they proceed to tell me to 'take him home, pick up the phone, and make an appointment with his Primary Care Physician'. I was furrious! I can tell you this much-if I had been face to face with this b#tch, security would have had to escort me out. Then her supervisor actually has the nerve to tell me that I can go anywhere I please and just pay the bill myself. I threatened to just take him-AND THE INSURANCE CARD to the nearest ER. She changed her tone REAL QUICK!  Lesson to be learned? Insurance companies care more about saving money than keeping you healthy. I DID follow up the Urgent Care visit with an appointment with his PCP. He would have had to wait 6 DAYS to see a doctor-with a 103 temperature. Are these people insane? BFMC was great. Kern Families can go to h#ll!

I'm sure that you were upset at the time, but what they were trying to tell you is that YOU can take him anywhere and pay the bill and then submit it for reimbursement afterwards. That's a common thing. You (and your kid) are still covered, but in situations like this, you file for reimbursement.

Next time, just take him in to see a Doctor. Worry about the Insurance thing later.

Patrick,

Is your son okay? I think a real nasty flu is going around. One of my family member's also got sick. I still have to get a complete blood count (lab test).  When I went to urgent care, I was completley surprised that you had to pay the day of your appointment. Around a year and a half ago I went to Mercy SW's urgent care and was sent the bill later.

Although I ended up leaving the urgent care center before I was called, I was fortunate that I had my credit card. It would have been a pain to return to my house to get a stupid credit card and then go home because the wait was too long.

tonyh,

When anybody, especially a kid gets a 103 degree they should see a doctor right away. Mine was 102, and I felt horrible.

He's fine now. TY. Turned out he had pnemonia-and Kern Families would have me wait 10 days to see a doctor had I taken it in the @$$ as they would have preferred. I'm sorry, if my child has a temperature over 101, he's going to see a doctor TODAY!

I generally run a subnormal temp and rarely run a fever at all.  When I ran a 101 for three days last Feb and went to the doc he apparently didn't think it was important.  For me, a 101 is a high fever.  I wish I'd gone to an urgent care that morning instead of the doctor.  Maybe they would have at least looked in my ears.
