Weekly T.V. Guide

In Sunday's paper you announced that the weekly T.V. Guide would no longer be a the Sunday suppliment but rather your readers would have to go to "Eye Street" if they wanted to see what was on T.V.  I don't watch that much T.V. but I do look forward to seeing what movies and specials were going to be on during the week.  That way I can plan on watching or recording them.  With the new format, that is no longer possible.  Also, I am unable to see what is on during the day on Saturday and Sunday, such as sporting events and films.  "Eye Street" only gives people the prime time schedules and there some of us who are interested in more than prime time.  Give your readers a break and reinstitute the T.V. Guide section.  I know that this is probably more expensive, but it's more user friendly.

I agree so whole-heartedly!  The new 'non-schedule' is very user-UNfriendly.  We subscribe to the Tehachapi News and get the Californian Sunday edition only.  For my 91 year old mother, this doesn't help one bit.  It appears the only thing we can do subscribe to TV Guide or something so she knows what is going to be on.   We won't subscribe to the Californian for the rest of the week because, in our opinion, most papers (not just the Californian) are a waste of paper.  Sure hope they rethink this!

This is just one more nail in the Californian's coffin. The Eye on TV section left much to be desired, but it was better than TV Guide what with the changes that magazine made in recent years. I like to see what is going to be on tomorrow or the next day, and what's on all day during the weekends. The oilfield news section of the paper died with Bill Rintoul and the business section is a joke. It is especially sad watching this slow death when I hear (but can't verify) that readership is increasing for certain foreign language papers in our county.

Thats just fine with me, I am taking an anti-Arnold stand and watching only Spanish language TV from now on. Bring on las novelas!

An Executive decision has been made not to print Day Time TV listing!  I stopped my TV Guide subscription because they decided not to print day time listings. Plus they would not list what TV channel the shows play on. Now I understand TV Guide has put it back in. SOOOOOO the bottom line is !!!!!! Do want TV GUIDE to get the sales because of this or do you want the sales......Profit is the bottom line .....YOU DECIDE!

One of the reasons I subscribe to the Californian is the TV Times.  I was told today that it would no longer be in the paper.  The TV listings in todays paper start at 7pm.  That's ridiculous!  If you listen to the news on TV (and there are lots of channels) or get your news off the internet most of what you get the next day is old anyway.  I plan to cancel my subscription.

The Bakersfield Californian appears to be having financial troubles. My wife is mad as I've ever seen her about loosing the papers weekly TV guide. The management at the paper cut out Dr Fox., Dr Bombay. Muddled up the comic section. Gives us the "News Digest", ala Readers Digest. Substitutes blog comments for real news. NEWS PAPER, Isn't that what we called it for as long as I can remember. The papers new slogan, "MORE THAN BEFORE". The only more seems to be more nutty descisions than before. I now find less and less of articles of interest to Senoir Citizens. I do enjoy the local columnists. However since they decided to put a color background behind the text, I have to scan them into my computer and run it through Adobe Photo Shop, using it's enhancement feature to make it readable for me. The Californian is aiming at the younger population hoping to increase their circulation and saying, "To hell with the Seniors and the readership that look for the real news."

Amazing how things that aren't broken get fixed. The weekly TV Guide was working, but apparently to some it isn't worth putting in the paper any longer.  The 4 hour TV listing is worthless.  We want the old TV Guide back.

I agree with prior comments. The new format is unusable, and will force me to subscribe to tv guide. Here are things not provided by the new format:
1. Any non-prime programming.
2. An advance look of offerings throughout the week.
3. Movie ratings and summaries.
4. Listings of sports events (other than prime-time or those listed daily in the sports section).

So, if we watch tv exclusively during prime time and if we don't care about previewing the offerings more than 12 hours in advance, the new format is great. I wonder what type of reader that represents, and whether the Californian really wants to lose the many readers who depend on the weekly tv format.

Although the old format was not perfect, it served its purpose well for anyone willing to take some time to become familiar with the format.

My husband and I are retired and certainly miss the Sunday weekly TV log.  We could go through it and mark the shows we wanted to watch/or/record for later.  But now with only the prime time listings we have lost that luxury.  Please bring back the weekly TV log.  Maybe before such drastic changes are made to the paper you should survey you clients to see what they want.

Just wanted to let you know, on a fixed income it will be hard to add the TV guide to our budget but I guess we have no choice if we want to know what's on for more that your 4 hour block prime time.

I also for one would like the tv guide to stay in the sunday paper.

I am on disability and cant afford to buy the newspaper every day.

OR AT LEAST

HAVE ON YOUR WEBSITE.

They no longer sell tv guides in the stores.

PLEASE RESTORE THE TV GUIDE TO THE SUNDAY PAPER!!!!
