Aren't we studs supposed to have a lot of testosterone?
It not only bugs me that Tour de France winner Floyd Landis is now under suspicion for doping his way to victory, but that the science of all this can't figure out exactly what he took.

And while Landis is fighting this latest report and has denied cheating, he's acknowledging that step B in the testing process probably won't be much different than step A. He's hired a doctor to help him dispute the results.

The test was taken at the time Landis made a stunning comeback during the race — an almost unbelievable comeback.

It will probably take days or weeks to sort all this out, but in the meantime we are left with yet another sports star — like Barry Bonds — who both denies doping but leaves the possibility that something could have gone awry.

Landis suggested that a small amount of hormone he's been taking for a thyroid condition, or the cortisone shots he gets for hip pain skewed the result.

We regular folks don't have these problems. My medication is pretty much limited to Advil. And any testosterone levels I have come naturally with my studliness.

I suspect my studliness is greater in my own mind than in actuality. I wonder about these athletes who can't say the same.

Although the whole thing sounds suspicious, There is a possibility he did cheat. Of all the things in the world Floyd could have taken, testosterone would be one of the ones to help him the least in that situation. Roids take a longer time to have an effect, and are mostly used for muscle building and to aid in weight training. Neither of those would do you any good riding a bike up the alps. the folks that are doing the testing had been trying to get Lance Armstrong for years, and were unsuccessful. They even tried to get him after he won the 7th by testing his first tour win sample. I think the most important thing is that we wait and see before condeming Floyd Landis. Heck, after his performance in stage 17, who wouldn't have the testosterone flowing. He is an American afterall.

Until a Frenchman wins, it will always be cheating, you can take that to the bank! only than will the incessant whining stop.

Unfortunately the French cyclists are only able to win the occasional sprinting stage or a Bastille Day stage. They do not have any strong enough all around cyclists to be able to compete with our testosterone flowing athletes. I read that Floyd Landis had a press conference where he flatly stated that he is not doping and that his testosterone levels are natural. He plans on doing additional tests to prove himself innocent.

In a bit of humor, when the asked Lance Armstrong about it, he said he would wait to comment, but that they could probably get Greg Lemond to condem Floyd with no problem. He's been through this part of winning Le Tour before. 7 times to be exact.

There was a great cartoon by Delonas in the New York Post a few days ago. They were holding up a test tube and proclaiming that the American had three times the testosterone than the French who had very little.. Standing watching the testing was a figure that they often use to represent the French, a skinny, effeminate person,w ith a poodle dog. He is waving a white flag such as the French so often do. I love cartoons, and since the LA Times fired Ramirez, I think Delonas to be the better.By the way, Steve, congratulations on your marriage. I thought that the picture on the front page of the Saturday section was great. Wish that I could use your photographer. Cheers. Franki

stop pretending your champions are not doped! of course they are, just like 90% of the cyclists (and I'm not talking about athletics). Landis is undoubtedly he was controlled thus (by independant international labs, not by french ones)! don't make me laugh and tell me you really believe that americans have a higher testosterone level than others! and after you will tell me that they also "naturally" have a higher red globules rate in the blood and that it has nothing to do with EPO! concerning the white flag that "french so often wave", if the US did set france and europe free in 1944, don't forget that w/o lafayette (he was french) the USA would still be british! if landis was stupid enough to take such products, don't blame the testers who caught him, but him!
