Bakersfield Jam wins first game
It's like catching the first fish on a slow day at the lake.
The Bakersfield Jam won it's first game Sunday, holding on to an 87 to 86 victory over the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the Rabobank Arena. This follows four straight defeats in games where the Jam is still trying to gel. Sometimes it feels good not to be skunked at the lake. And it gives hope for more fish and more wins. I hope the NBDL works, but so far it seems a little stale. I miss the original CBA (before Isiah Thomas torpedoed the league) with quarter points, players being traded every other week and exciting rivalries like the LaCrosse Catbirds and Rapid City Thrillers. Maybe this town is spoiled and doesn't appreciate its minor league options as smaller towns do. There is no reason the Blitz shouldn't fill up at least half of Rob for home games. I agree that hopefully CSUB going DI will improve its crowds. Maybe it will even translate into a local TV contract where games against top-notch DI programs are broadcast here locally.
