Testing, testing, 1 2 3...
Last night, we made some back-end upgrades to our network of sites to make sure that they can keep pace with all the amazing growth we are seeing in our online communities. Unfortunately, as many of you experienced, that upgrade came with some problems this morning, and we want to thank those of you who alerted us to them. The most noticeable problem was pages either taking a really long time to load or not coming up at all. Our software development team worked to roll back and fix some of the changes to correct to the glitches. However, we need to keep testing this upgrade for a few days in order to fine-tune the improvements. So, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 15, and at the same time on Tuesday, Feb. 19 and Wednesday, Feb. 20, please be on the lookout for any problems or glitches and let us know if and when you experience them. We thank you for your patience, and for your help in making our sites better, faster, and stronger. 12 comments from 5 users

I will try to keep my voice down. And the cursing to a minimum. But if you and your crew should over hear. posted by

I was noticing the really long load times this morning, too; thought my computer had reverted to dial-up. Things seem to be loading faster now. Is there any way to get the page to not automatically go to the comment box everytime I go to a blog site? This is especially annoying when it's my first visit to a particular blog. Even if it's not my first visit there, I prefer to start at the top and scan down the entries until I get to where I left off previously, instead of having to scroll up, reading bits and pieces of entries until I finally get to the new stuff. It didn't use to be this way.

Jason..I yelled for help too when the post went flip flop and an edited post got split in the middle. It hung up and went blank so many time that I rebooted my computer from bottoms up and cleared all the cache. Still wouldn't work right so I gave up Thanks for letting us know we didn't have to use a ball peen hammer on the computer. My browser problems are bad enough. BTW..why won't Firefox let me post from there? posted by

Nancy, FireFox is not a complete system. Sure it does not have the obvious vulnerabilities of MS. But only because it also does not have the capabilities. So nobody has bothered seeking out the vulnerabilities. Many websites and programs are not available to Firefox or Mozillia. Whichever you wish to call it. Linux is in the same boat. Drivers and programs a big problem for Linux. Apple to a lesser extent. Unless of course you are a gamer. For gaming, Apple is junk. And their I-Phone Internet speed is slow and useless. Except for blowing kisses to your girlfriend. posted by

TK, the power of IE is that it is tied into the core of your OS. For people who like that,it's great. I only use IE for ftp transfer. I'm actually looking at putting Opera on my phone next week when I have my computer back. posted by

Tom, Some people blame ATT for the slow Internet speeds. That doesn't explain why I-phone went exclusive with ATT.
Why a small phone? I am sure there is a reason for going smaller and smaller. I just don't have one. I am Happy with g3 on a laptop. Now if I could just get coverage past Lake Ming. posted by

The speedson the AT&T network aren't that bad actually, about the same as I get on Sprint. There was a huge crush when the iPhone first went on sale, but the network seems fine now. As for why a phone, it's nice to check email, text and websurf from your phone (though this site is pretty tough to navigate on winmobile). I have some other cool programs on there too, like Google Maps. posted by

100k is BaaaaaD. When you are used to over 4000k. Even g3 drops to the slower speeds outside of the city limits. For less than 750 bucks. (more than I would pay right now) You can get a tripod setup for satellite Internet. Ultra high speed compared to I-phone that started out at 600 bucks. And you can get that same speed ANY WHERE as long as you have a southern view. Satellite Internet is now around 49 bucks. Last I checked. I-phone79/month. Things are changing so fast. I hate to step in an invest any money in any of it right now. I won't even go for a two year contract on anyting. Maybe a new Fly Pole will satisfy my desires this next summer. :>) posted by
