jasonsperber - > Blogging Bako -> 2.0 is a go
2.0 is a go
Just a heads-up to let you know that our development team worked tirelessly through the night and as you log in this morning, all of your favorite Bakersfield.com interactive community features are now upgraded.Unfortunately, if you posted comments or new blog posts in the wee hours of the morning, they may have gotten lost in the digital shuffle. If this happened to you (it should've only been a few), we apologize and hope you'll repost. As you go about your usual business on the site, don't forget to leave a comment here or e-mail me if you encounter any bugs.

My first complaint:

.

It's great that New Comments now lets you browse further down by way of Page 2, 3, etc.

.

But now I really have to squint to see which blog the comment was made to, since the title of the affected blog is no longer highlighted in any way.

It looks like all the fonts are monospaced now too. Kerning people, Kerning.

I have to agree with Hardliner.  My eyes appreciated the extra help.

Now that I've complained, let me give a prop where a prop is due:

.

It's GREAT to automatically return to the blog I was at, after I edit and save a change to a comment.

Anyone else notice the clock is stuck at 8:11?  I realize it's not a real problem.  It threw me for awhile.  I thought my coffee was defective.
posted by Hardliner4freedom on Nov 20, 2006 at 08:59 AM

It's not stuck.  Time really does crawl that slowly on Monday mornings.  ;-)

posted by Hardliner4freedom on Nov 20, 2006 at 09:11 AM

Now that you point it out, the minutes are stuck at 11 but the hour keeps pace.

.

The part of your (b.dot.com) program code that formats the minutes portion of the time either has some hard-coded test data in it, or is being pulled from a memory variable that isn't being updated.

When I click on the Blog Larsen's Dairy under lost treasures I get the message "blog post does not exist".  Anyone else have that problem?
posted by Hardliner4freedom on Nov 20, 2006 at 09:15 AM

Yep, sure enough, Larsen's Diary shows up "not found."

posted by Justinian on Nov 20, 2006 at 09:45 AM
Thanks for pointing some of these things out!
We're working on the style issues on the recent comments page so that the username and post links are more readable. We'll also fix the timestamp, so we know what time we posted.
The user who posted the Larsen's Dairy blog, set his/her profile to be private, which is why the blog cannot be found. We require anyone who blogs to have a public profile.
Keep commenting if you find anything else that isn't quite right.
Thanks!

Hey, I am no longer notified when someone comments on my blog post..wtf gents?
posted by randomfactor on Nov 20, 2006 at 11:09 AM
Apparently, with regard to the time, 11/11 changed everything...
posted by Hardliner4freedom on Nov 20, 2006 at 11:11 AM

I'm happy that there isn't any notification on blog comments, if indeed this is the case.  They just fill my inbox.

posted by dusty1215 on Nov 20, 2006 at 11:13 AM
well, i like it when I am notified. That way, if someone does wish to have a discussion, I will know about it Hardliner.I do more than sit on these blogs all day.
posted by Hardliner4freedom on Nov 20, 2006 at 11:24 AM

Which brings to mind the next new feature (if they haven't already created it):

.

The option to turn on/off the notification.

I can select and copy text from someone's post now. As a hunt-and-peck typer, Thanks!

Hey..Robb's link on my current post isn't working..and neither is the one Mattloch posted on BLT's blog..is this a b.com problem or are the men posting them nimrods?  :P
posted by robbwillis on Nov 20, 2006 at 02:59 PM
That's "Mr Nimrod" to you Dusty. It wouldn't work for me either, so I deleted it.

Sorry Robb..my bad :)

Thanks for all the feedback, guys. Keep commenting and e-mailing if you find bugs.

I'm still getting e-mail notifications for comments on my blog post, but I'm not getting e-mail notifications when someone leaves a message on my guestbook. I inadvertently ran across that when I was checking to see if anything else had changed beside the profile URLs.

I don't think I've run across any more than that.

The only thing I can say beyond that is that I've been logged in since Oct. 13. I just wonder why.
posted by anglo1 on Nov 20, 2006 at 09:18 PM
I vote for the option to turn off the notification on your email.

DAMNIT PEOPLE!!!

I wrote a long blog topic post, hit "Save Draft," and it ASKED ME TO SIGN IN ALL OVER AGAIN, and LOST EVERY DAMN THING I DID!!!

posted by randomfactor on Nov 21, 2006 at 07:39 AM

There are two kinds of people in the world, Hardliner.  Those who have lost data, and those who *WILL* lose data.

.

(Actually, there are 10 kinds of people in the world--those who understand binary and those who don't.)

posted by Hardliner4freedom on Nov 21, 2006 at 07:41 AM

AND, when I call up a saved draft, it loses the entire title except for the first word.
