Hollywood may be 100 miles away, but youth in Kern County won't have to travel far to get top notch instruction from Hollywood's best Christian directors, producers, writers, actors, and technicians at the 2006 Christian Teen Filmmaker's Workshop. Attendees will be exposed to award winning professionals who have worked on (or are working on) successful productions like Spiderman 3, National Treasure II, Bobby Jones: A Stroke of Genius, Barnyard, 24, and CSI Miami.
Saturday, November 4, 2006 from 9:00AM to 1:30PM, leaders in the film making trade will be on hand at Bakersfield Christian High School, 12775 Stockdale Hwy, to give youth a taste of the movie industry. Professionals on hand will include Jim Schmidt, recipient of the ICVN Crown Award for Best Actor in a Drama. As a producer, Jim has worked with such well knowns as Jim Caviezel, Aidan Quinn, Ned Vaughn, Dabney Coleman, and Clifton Davis. Also on hand will be Shane Mulholland, Visual Effects Coordinator at Zoic Studios working on 24 and CSI Miami; and Trenton Waterson who is currently in production on the soon to be released National Treasure II. Award winning director James O'Keefe, actress Amanda Nugent, makeup artist Iris Abril, producer Rusty Rhodes, and cinematographer Brent Kaff will also be featured. Workshops will include Directing, Camera/Lighting, Writing, Acting, and Sound. A question and answer panel will give teens an opportunity to ask questions while sitting at lunch. All this for only $10.00 including lunch! Participants will have a unique opportunity to learn from committed professionals at this event, gaining a unique exposure to the film making industry and learning techniques and methods that will polish their own video production skills. Students may discover an interest in videography or production which could open up an entire career field they hadn't yet considered. All will have a definite increase in their knowledge of all phases of videography as they prepare to compete at the upcoming Kern Youth Network's Christian Youth Academy Awards film festival competition March 3, 2007. Kern Youth Network is a consortium of Christian youth pastors from the greater Kern County area who work together to provide youth and young adults with high quality activities that grow their faith, teach them to serve, and prepare them for their future as productive adults in the community.
