The sign on top of the Sill building?
We've had a few people suggest we should have included this sign in our Lost Treasures package. I definitely am fascinated by this behemoth. Maybe we'll add it to our long list of potential treasures to track down.
Anyone know anything about this sign? Anyone have pictures of it? (This was the best I could find.) And most importantly, anyone know where it is now? How cool would it be to have this thing in your backyard. 10 comments from 10 users

The Californian ran an article on it quite a few years ago - about the same time they did one on the Green Frog sign on Bernard and Alta Vista. I would suggest that the Sill Family might have pictures or if any of Sam Lynn's relatives (owner of CocaCola Bottling) are still in town, contact them. posted by

It was connected by private phone line to Sam Lynn's office. He changed the settings himself.

It seems somewhere within the cobwebs of my memories the "weather bird sign" atop the Sill Bldg. originally stood elsewhere. Possibly atop a bottling company????

The rails to the street cars were still on the surface on Chester. I remember them well. I'm not sure when they were taken up but I seem to remember driving on them myself which would put them in the late 50's or very early 60's. posted by

I bought a copy of a painting by a local artist at the street fair on Chester this summer. I don't remember the artists name. The painting had the Coca-Cola sign as well as other historical landmarks of Bakersfield such as the Andre's, Travelers Motel, Rice Bowl, Dewar's, Bakersfield Inn, Mexicali and Green Frog signs. Perhaps he could be located. The painting shows the true colors of the signs, so he must have seen them in person.

You missed your chance to buy real art, Andy Warhol’s portrait of chairman Mao just sold for 17.5 million at auction. posted by
