Bakersfield College at Citrus
What I expected to be a quick, two-hour drive down I-5 to Citrus College this morning turned into an I'm-not-sure-if-I-can-make-it moment. Because of the accident on I-5, I went down through Barstow and pulled up just 20 minutes before kickoff. The game is just 1:47 away from getting started. I'll be back with updates throughout.
Update: The Renegades are having some success against the No. 1 defense in the conference. On their second possession they drove 36 yards in six plays. The drive was capped by a 2-yard, play-action pass from quarterback Jacob Bower to tight end Zack Lewis. BC's defense is also playing well. After a three-and-out, Citrus started moving the ball on its second possession, but running back Dwight Broadnax fumbled on the 'Gades' 46. The ball was recovered by linebacker Cedric Rainey. BC 7, Citrus 0 Update: At the end of the first quarter, BC held a 7-0 lead, but had the ball on the 1-yard line. Coach Jeff Chudy said he hoped his offense would maintain the consistency it had shown prior to the bye week. It has. Bower said the team needed to avoid turnovers against Citrus' defense. The 'Gades have done that as well. Bower plunged into the end zone from 1-yard out to build on the lead in the early seconds of the second quarter. BC 14, Citrus 0 Update: I'm having a difficult time posting updates right now. But, at the half, BC held a 14-7 lead. Bower threw two interceptions in the first half and just threw another one. Mistakes are giving the Owls some momentum. BC had 175 rushing yards in the first half, but the passing game is off to a rough start. BC 14, Citrus 7 Update: I have to apologize for my lack of posts during the game. I was having a difficult time loading the Web site. Anyway, the 'Gades escaped Citrus with a win. In the end, BC's defense was the difference. The 'Gades only allowed 127 yards of total offense and one touchdown. It helped that BC was able to control the ball with its running game. Bower's three-interception day is an aberration. He should be back to normal next week against Santa Monica. I would much more lopsided effort next week. Traffic was a mess. We made the mistake of taking I-5, thinking it had to be open because the wreck was on the 14. We left East Bakersfield at 10 am on the nose. Got to the game at kickoff. WRONG! We hit the back up just before Calgrove, and I did not want to take the 126 to 101, that just made no sense. So we exited and got on the Old Road by Claimjumper. We took the frontage roads, bumper to bumper, but at least we were going 5MPH which was faster than the freeway. It took us over an hour to bypass all that, but the frontage road took us over I-5 right to the 210. We were on our way, and with every CHP behind us did about 80 mph to Glendora. We walked in just in time for the National Anthem. Going home we thought we would be smart and take 395. What a mess that was. We took 210 to 15 to 395. Well not five minutes after I told my uncle that I hated 395 more than 46 and thought it was more dangerous, we hit taillights. Accident about a mile ahead of us from what I could see. They landed two- TWO helicopters. After all the southbound 395 cars went around a dirt road, some northbound cars did the same. My uncle and I were content to stay put and listen to CAL lose their game on XM (God Bless XM and their college football programs, now if they could only get NASCAR back). Well, CAL lost, and we grew impatient. Having sat for over an hour we saw many cars take that dirt road. So we jumped in too. It was smooth sailing to the other side of the wreck.......WHY DID THE CHP NOT DIRECT US AROUND THIS WAS SOONER>???? we wondered. No reason for us to sit there. They closed 4 corners at Kramer Junction and made all cars go to Barstow-I-15. So there were no cars on the south bound side of 395. We sat for a long time when we should have been directed on the dirt road around! Ugh. We left the game at 5 and by the time I dropped my uncle off in EB it was 10. Almost 10:30 before I got home. And up a 4:15 for work on Sunday. Needless to say BC won and that somehow made everything ok. &nbs p; posted by

Mason, any word on BC injuries. Bower took a wicked hit and appeared to favor his chest of shoulder after the game. BC got killed in this game. The Citrus D was like a pack of wild dogs. Them boys can lay the wood down. But alas, playing two safeties to stop the bomb killed them against the run. Also any word on Dashon Miller? I see him in a sling. Will he be back in time for the playoffs? Of is he going to try and get a medical extension?

Anyway, Bower is OK. He looked fine in practice Tuesday and seemed ready to shake off a rough week. As far as Dashan Miller goes, I'm not sure about his status. Chudy said he thought he would be ready before the season ends and I haven't heard anything that would lead me to believe something different.
