Space Shuttle Landing Likely at Edwards Today

With bad weather in Florida and a determination to land the shuttle today, there is a very good chance shuttle Discovery will land at Edwards today.  Landing should be just at 5:53 PM PDT, if I did the math right.

Is there a place to view the landing outside of the Base? It doesn't look like they will open it up that late in the day.

Yes, very easily.  There are a couple locations just off the freeway around North Edwards.

Thanks. I may try and make it. I can't leave B-town until 3:45, but I think I can get there in plenty of time (traffic prmitting).

It has been confirmed, the shuttle is Edwards bound!

If you can get there to see it, I highly recommend it.  In the early '90s (1992, I think) I took my son to see the landing of Endeavor when they first used the parachute.  I had this inkling that if the parachute proved to be successful, regular landings at Edwards would become a thing of the past, and understandably so.  Hearing the sonic booms and having everyone in the crowd murmuring "Do you see it yet? Can you see it?" and then seeing the shuttle coast down out of the sky, truly stirred up a patriotic feeling.

Binoculars are helpful, but not required.
