B-17 Over Bakersfield?

I am fairly certain I observed a B-17 over Bakersfield this morning!  Time was about 8:35 Am and the aircraft had a blue tail.  I was too far away to see what subtype it was.

Anyone have any more information?

What a treat!

I didn't see that this morning but did anyone see the aircraft with bright lights in the southern sky last night? We saw it at about 7pm in the area south of Panaman and Stine. It was too low to be an airplane and didn't look like a helicopter. I don't even think it was really moving. We turned down a street with buildings that blocked our view and when we came back out, it was gone.

I am fairly certain I observed a B-17 over Bakersfield this morning!

It was a B-17G out of Minter returning from bombing the ball bearing factories in Frankfurt.  The crew is a little tired...
