Edwards Airshow

I enjoyed the airshow at Edwards AFB and wish to commend the personnel and all those involved in making the event so amazing.  I am difficult to impress, but I found myself feeling so on multiple occasions, which proves my tax dollars are being put to impressive (even if not practical) use.  :-)  Practicality is debatable.

I will sleep a hell of a lot better at night after seeing the airshow.  We've got some impressive equipment and some very skilled pilots and crews.

The only detractor to the experience was the horrible traffic snarl when it came time to leave.  I spent over 90 minutes on the lakebed waiting to move less than 100 yards.  It took over four hours to get from the tarmac to the north gate; 3 PM to 7PM!  Any idea what happened there?  Is it always like that?

Anyway, great show, Edwards.  Glad you're on my side.

I wanted to see that. But I had committed myself to taking a couple of people to Burn The Witch IV and the Evil Dead musical. (Both were a great time.) The Hot Rod Reunion was going on (still is today, I think) at the same time.  For a city with "nothing to do," that's quite a buffet.

That's what I heard also---the time in traffic was unreal--some turned back---

Too bad..they usually put on a good show...

I'd like to have gone too but I was committed to working at the Beale Friends Of The Library book sale.  There was also at least one blood drive and the walk and talk work day at Hart Park.  I forgot about the Peddlers Fair last weekend too.

The Dust Bowl Days were held this weekend too and I rally like going to that one.

Yup, there's plenty to do if you pay attention.  The problem is choosing which to attend.

"I enjoyed the airshow at Edwards AFB and wish to commend the personnel and all those involved in making the event so amazing." Thanks! I'll pass that along to the folks I supervise that played a very important, but very behind the scenes part of the airshow. We have nothing to do with parking and traffic issues, by the way. Just the airplanes and the sky they fly in.

"Glad you're on my side." Yes, we very much are. More than you could ever know.

I, too, went to the Edwards AFB Open House and had a very enjoyable time. I was highly impressed with the skill of our aviators and the immense size of some of our aircraft, particularly the cargo planes like the C-17 and the bombers, like the B-52. It was quite a spectacular event with the Golden Knights parachute team, a simulated attack on Pearl Harbor by the Tora, Tora, Tora Team, historic aircraft flybys, and demonstrations by our most advanced aircraft and skilled pilots.

At the end of the show, I went out through the South Gate and didn't have the extended wait that those who went out through the North Gate experienced.

Sage, it was fantastic! Here is a video of the Tora, Tora, Tora action:

The planes were built for the movie Tora, Tora, Tora and were subsequently donated to a private air museum that puts on this display around the country.

Hubby and I went also. It was fantastic. As other posters have said the parking was out on the lakebed and it was quite a journey to get inside but very woth it!  To all the airmen and women who allowed us the view the airpower that American can put in the air - Thank You. To the people involved in the show - Tora, Tora, Tora, the various private owned aircraft that were displayed or flew - Thank You.

It has been a few years since Edwards has opened it's gates to the public for an air show and even though there were many activities in and around Bakersfield I am glad we chose to go.

Traffic was horrible when leaving but we made it out in 2.5hours from the time we left the show until we passed through the North Gate.
