I spotted a Smart Car!

Last night after eating a yummy blue cheese chopped salad at The Outback on Stockdale, my date and I spotted this super cute, banana yellow Smart Car parked next to us in the parking lot. It was so adorable! I just wanted to hug it. But I contained myself and just took these pictures with my cell phone instead.

What was funny was parked on the other side of me was a huge, jacked up truck with monster tires. Too bad they weren't parked right next to each other for the irony perspective. My little Ford Ranger pickup separated the two :)

If you spot something that interests you, snap it with your cell phone and text it to mobile@bakersfield.com! I'll post it to this blog for all to see.

I've seen quite a few of these around B-Town. They are very "cute."

There are 2 here in Casper, an older yellow one and a silver one. They ARE cute. I am so jealous!

Casper? Only someone with a death wish would drive one of these on the road in a Wyoming winter. I drove a Geo Metro when I lived in Laramie and that was a daily gamble.

I don't know if I'd want to drive one......Looks like a VW could blow it off the road!

They are actually pretty cool, but don't you have to have two...one for each foot?

They're cute, but they are nowhere near as gas efficient as their European cousins. They changed the engine and added features (and a bit of size) to the American model so its fuel economy is only about as good as a much larger hybrid. You can't even import an European version to the USA without having to have safety features added to be road-legal here. Again, those features kill the fuel economy.

All the safety features required in a car these days reminds me of those old TV reels from the 50s or 60s of the kid in the padded suit trying rather unsuccessfully to ride a bicycle. Sure he was protected in his little cocoon, but it was so massive and unwieldy that he could hardly move. Same thing seems to be happening with car safety features. We're far more likely to walk away from crashes now, but the cars have to burn a whole lot more gas just to move.

I just want to pick it up and hug it.. it's sooo cuuutee.. but i wouldn't drive it, not in this town.. not with the trucks that are like 10 feet high, i'd be a pancake.
