U. S. Congressman, Kevin McCarthy.Part One

Today, The Bakersfield Californian published a 'Community Voices' op-ed by our U. S. Congressman, Kevin McCarthy.

The editor's provided the headline: "Cooperation to solve U.S. gas pain."

McCarthy wrote that, Two years ago, the current Speaker of the House stated, "Democrats have a common sense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices"

I guess McCarthy hasn't heard about the ability that Google, provides concerned citizens an opportunity to research; because what Nancy Pelosi really said was that:

“Democrats have a commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices by cracking down on price gouging, rolling back the billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies, tax breaks and royalty relief given to big oil and gas companies, and increasing production of alternative fuels.”   Nancy Pelosi (emp. miine)

See, McCarthy doesn't want to talk about rolling back the billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies, tax breaks and royalty relief given to big oil and gas companies, and increasing production of alternative fuels.

I wonder why he wouldn't want to mention those important facts?

Guess, I need to do a little more research to figure that out...

Maybe, there are some clues here http://herndon1.sdrdc.com/c...

In the meantime, I've gotta go find an  Independent willing to run against McCarthy in '08, I was told that the deadline for me to file the 3000 required signatures, and monies is August 8.

Well it turns out that no Califonian registered Democrat, can pull a "Joe Liberman" and  run as an independent in the 2008 elections. According to the California Secretarty of State's website, a person is disqualified from running as an independent if...

At any time during the 13 months preceding the general election, the candidate was
registered as affiliated with any qualified political party. The last day a candidate
may be affiliated with a qualified party is October 4, 2007 if desiring to run under the
independent nomination procedures in the 2008 General Election.
§ 8550(f)

For purposes of Section 8550, the six qualified political parties are: American
Independent, Democratic, Green, Libertarian, Peace and Freedom, and Republican.

I would love to see some competition for this guy.

They act like this seat is part of some royal family where they pass it down from one generation to the next.

Hey Bakersfield Bubble, you interested in running against McCarthy as an Independent?  I'm talking with the party about getting together a candidacy to do just that.

McCarthy is another reich-wing fascist who will do nothing but blame the other side for all the ills. He will accomplish nothing and receives thousands of dollars from corporate donors to whom he will owe favors!

Oh wait bush and the reich-wingers ran the national debt from 4.9 trillion to 10 trillion. Nice work Georgy, Dicky and Fatty-Hastert!

Roysan - two years? Check your math, they took over in Jan 2007.

The CONservative Reich-wingers had control from Jan 1995 to Jan 2007. 12 years of NOTHING!

When Bush leaves in Jan 2009, 20 of the last 28 control of the executive branch and NOTHING!

Oh, wait how about his vote on H R 6, on January 6, 2007. "

Vote 40: H R 6

: This bill would repeal tax cuts to oil companies and mandate that they pay a fee to remove oil from the Gulf of Mexico. It would also fund renewable energy programs. The act would repeal a tax break that oil and gas firms received in 2004. That break effectively lowered their corporate tax rates. It would also bar oil companies from bidding on new federal leases unless they pay a fee or renegotiate improperly drafted leases from the late ‘90s. Those leases did not require royalty payments on Gulf of Mexico oil production. Oil firms would pay a “conservation fee” for oil taken from the gulf.

Additionally, the bill would set aside an estimated $13 billion to $15 billion in revenues over a five-year period for tax breaks relating to renewable energy sources, according to The Washington Post.

The bill was designed to reduce the United States’ dependency on foreign oil by investing in alternative energy sources. However, critics say it actually would decrease domestic oil production so the country would rely more heavily on imported oil.

The House passed the bill on Jan. 18, 2007, with a vote of 264-163. All House Democrats except one favored the bill. They were joined by 36 Republicans. The Senate must debate the bill.

The Washington Post reported that the Bush Administration opposed repealing the tax break for oil companies when other manufacturing industries benefited from the 2004 reductions. It also frowned on forcing companies to renegotiate their Gulf of Mexico leases. (source: http://projects.washingtonp...
