Congress needs to cancel the August recess! What might President Bush  while the US Congress goes on recess.  The cat's are going on vacation, and the rat's will have complete run of the U.S.   A possible August 7th headline might read: Gonzales resigns, Bush appoints  Rumsfield AG And the appointment will be in effect until roughly the first week in December, 2008  allowing "Bush to make a quick recess appointment to replace Gonzales, which...

Dear Monte, Monday night's CNN/YouTube debate was a breath of fresh air. Finally, it was the people, not media personalities, deciding what to ask. But good, honest questions are not enough if you never get a chance to answer them. I couldn't be happier with the answers I gave and the stands I took, but this song and dance is getting old....

After watching the grilling by members of the  U.S. House Judiciary Committee  upon Alberto Gonzales, I searched for videos that are available on the internet of the hearing.  A blogger using the name "Veracifier" has posted several (link) and in their piece entitled "Senators Signal Gonzales Perjury Inquiry over Spying Testimony" (link)Muckraker has a few videos, they are all very interesting, an real insight into our Attorney Generals character.  ...

The AP quotes Democratic Senate Whip Dick Durbin explaining the justification for the all-night debate: "How many sleepless nights have our soldiers and their families had?" Addressing the Republicans' use of the filibuster on this issue, the Washington Post reports Democrats "employed similar delaying tactics when they were in the minority, but Reid said the gravity of the Iraq war calls for a straightforward debate, free of political or procedural gimmicks." Which is...

TPMCafe noted: "It's interesting, then, to note that the primary reason Wilson cited for backing Hillary is her view of what should happen after the war -- her awareness, as he sees it, of the need to end the war "in a way that preserves some shred of our strategic position in the region." This, of course, touches on the whole residual force debate, which ironically is something Hillary has taken heat for from bloggers and others whom the Wilson endorsement is most likely...

President Bush got a lesson from a group of recent high school graduates. They were Presidential Scholars, a program designed "to recognize and provide leadership development experiences for some of America's most outstanding graduating high-school seniors." The 141 Presidential Scholars were being honored at the White House. One of them, Mari Oye, from Wellesley, Mass., describes what happened: "The president walked in and gave us a short speech saying that as we went on...

Impeachment is a Priority Mandatory Who’s Kidding Whom? t is unconscionable to permit the Bush administration to circumvent the laws of this nation and be excused of its irresponsibility to the American people. During the past seven years President George Walker Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and their administration, a.k.a., advisors, have plundered American taxpayers in the name of their own very special interests—“the need for greed." The hardest-hit are...

Responsible Redeployment from Iraq Act On July 12th the House passed HR 2956, the Responsible Redeployment from Iraq Act, by a vote 223-201. The legislation, sponsored by Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton, would begin the responsible redeployment of U.S. troops within 120 days and complete redeployment by April 1, 2008.  The President would have to report to Congress why troops should remain in Iraq for limited purposes such as to fight terrorism or to train Iraqi forces. ...

WASHINGTON - A House panel cleared the way Thursday for contempt proceedings against former White House counsel Harriet Miers after she obeyed President Bush and skipped a hearing on the firings of federal prosecutors. The House Judiciary subcommittee that Sanchez chairs voted 7-5 to sustain her ruling. The next step would be for the full Judiciary Committee to issue a finding that Miers, Bush‘s longtime friend and former Supreme Court nominee, was in contempt. Ultimately, the full...

I am aware that another blogger here has recently taken on this topic, because I do not know how to post this video on as a commentator, and because I really want to share it, I am posting it, as well as this "pasted" argument in it's favor.  Monte Conspiracy to defraud Congress regarding Iraq We Use The Term “Conspiracy” because Bush Didn’t Act Alone Prosecutors consider conspiracy to be an easier crime to charge, in most cases, than the underlying...

The means used to implement this course of conduct or plan (impeachment of Richard Nixon) included one or more of the following: making false or misleading statements to lawfully authorized investigative officers and employees of the United States; withholding relevant and material evidence or information from lawfully authorized investigative officers and employees of the United States; approving, condoning, acquiescing in, and counselling...

When baseball's brightest gather in San Francisco for Tuesday night's All-Star game, they'll bring along a buzz of anticipation, the kind of excitement that only the game's top players can generate. Willie Mays would know all about that. In his time, the golden age of Aaron and Aparicio, Kaline and Koufax, Musial and Mantle, Mays collected superlatives. He defined baseball greatness, a man equipped...

Tonight's Home Run Derby (ESPN, 8 ET) will require wet suits. (Credit ESPN) But the real intrigue in today's All-Star Home Run Derby will be on the opposite end of McCovey Cove - as dry, and as high, as you can get. "I'm just interested if anyone can hit the glove in left-center field," said former All-Star Tony Gwynn, who will contribute to the telecast. "I'll bet some balls will fly pretty close to it." Other than being the world's largest...

Al Gore's trying to save the planet from global warming -- with the biggest concert on earth! Is there a chance he'll run for president? He goes one-on-one with Larry King, tonight. (BTW, I know about his Gore's son's arrest, but I don't blame a father for all his son's sins; hey, it's not Bush 1's fault that  his son turned to such a Dick.)
