motopoet - > MARK'S WORLD -> For He's A Jolly Good Fellow!
For He's A Jolly Good Fellow!

I like liberals..Well, OK, not all of them, but I don't like all conservatives either. Some people are just buttholes. I don't dislki liberals, I just disagree with their views almost exclusively. I have friends and aquaintances who are liberals and we have no personel issues, we talk about sports, cars, planes, and myriad other subjects, we only argue politics and our argumenets never get personal. At the only meet n greet I have been able to attend, nobody got mad or offended, we just talked and enjoyed some good company.

Being politically aware and active, some folks on opposite sides of the aisle often get individuals confused with said persone views and they are not always mutually inclusive. Disagreeing with someone doesn't make them the enemy or a bad person and I was recently reminded of this fact by one of our fellow bloggers on the board.

Sometime back the liberals were predicting that Bush would invade Iran within a couple of months. I disagreed and challenged the bloggers to bet me I was wrong. I tossed out a bet of a dinner that it would not happen. Randomfactor was the only one to put his money where his opinion was and a dinner was staked.

The timefram elapsed and still Dubya had not acted rashly by opening up another front in an already overburdened theatre of operations in a hostile geo political environment, which were the reasons I fugured it wouldn't happen(Dubya still sometimes exhibits the common sense he was once brimming with)in the first place. Uncle Tom is still unscathed by the bombs the liberals predicted would fall, but I didn't see anyone mentioning that fact here or anywhere else, but what I did get was a note from Random admitting his miscalculation and a certificate for a dinner for two at a local eatery, which he sugested I share with my Mom(NancyII), which I intend to do(sorry I forgot to mention that the other day, Mom).

Random may be a liberal and we will nearly always disagree on politics, but he is a stand-up guy, a man of his word and he doesn't have a problem admitting he was wrong(nor does he have that problem when he is right!), he friendly, polite and respectful and that makes him OK in MY book!

Tacos and gravy? That sounds offensive to Mexicans and Okies alike!

All I have to say is I like a man of his word.  On the same note, you mustn't be too bad a guy yourself.  Thanks for giving credit where it was due (even if he is a Liberal - just kidding).   Regarding the above mentioned, I don't know about tortillas and gravy but my great mexican friend who is like a second mother to me, occasionally makes mashed potato tacos when she makes ground beef ones.  Her grown boys are thrilled when she makes this special treat.  Prepare like you would a regular taco, add little cheese and all the trimmings.   mm mm good.

Now THAT doesn't sound bad, buy gravy is for biscuits!

Mark, in the issue of biscuits and gravy we are forever on the same side.  Although I do like mashed potatoes too.

 .

I *DID* mention conceding the bet but in a rather offhanded fashion on another of Mark's posts.  I publicly repeat it here.

Nice to read that friendly wagers can happen in a sea of turbulent political discourse.

RF, I have to add here that Mark loves mashed potatoes too.  I'm tattling but one Christmas I decided not to make mashed potatoes for once because we always had stuffing and candied yams as well.  When I announced that little tid bit I thought I was going to get disowned and drummed out of the "Mom's" club.  Have you ever seen a grown man throw himself on the floor and hold his breath?  I had to avoid that at all cost so I got out some instant potato flakes and whipped 'em up.  Now understand that I don't eat instant MP at home.  It just isn't done you know, but I did keep them around for the grandkids in a pinch.  This was a pinch.  An emergency.   Mark wasn't as pleased with the fake ones but once he poured gravy over them, he settled down.

I learned a valuable lesson and never, ever left homemade mashed potatoes off the Christmas menu again.

Oooops...forgot.  RF, thank you for suggesting Mark take me to dinner on you.  That was very thoughtful.  Now that Mark announced his agreement in public, he's bound to it.  LOL.

Nancy I know you do the best at all times about the TRUTH.

I have tried everything to get my wife to make me Apricot hand made pies. I will try tonight with begging and if that doesnt work I'm trying Mark's way.

Ps: how long would I have to hold my breath ?

Ron.

Ron, the best bakers, like the best chefs, are men.  Think about it:  all you have to do is announce you're going to make the pie, then start to botch it, and she'll take over to see it's done the *RIGHT* way.

.

Oops--Nancy, don't read that.  I'm giving away tactics...

Random thanks but I tried that about a year ago and of course she wasnt home at the time. When she walked in I was eating the worse Apricot pie in the world but I told her they werent that bad, she took alittle bit and spit it out in the sink.

If I had the guts i'd try it again but I all most burnt down the house and she doesnt allow me to cook in the kitchen only outside to BBQ.

My oldest G/daughter is the only one that likes my cooking. I make great Pizza and mushrooms. (DAM now I'm getting some bad Idea's)

The secret of good baking is timing.  Time it so she takes over the project *BEFORE* it can be spoiled.  :)

Good on both of you.  I'm listening to the President right now talking about Iran, and I can see where each of you could have thought that he either would or wouldn't try to attack Iran.

RF..funny you should mention that.  That's how I used to get prefab things put together with my ex.    You guys aren't the only one who can use that trick.  :-)

And Ron..funny you should mention apricot fried pies.  My Mom used to make them and they were sooo good.  Guaranteed to give me heartburn but it was worth it.  She used dried apricots and stewed them.  Then she took biscuit dough (homemade of course), rolled one in a circle, put the apricot stuff in, folded it over, and fried it in a cast iron skillet in (shudder) GREASE.  Not deep fried mind you, but enough to cover about half the fried pie.  Flip it over till it's browned and, as RF said, have a heart attack on a plate.  Repeat til you run out of dough or apricot stuff.

I'd offer to make some but unfortunately that recipe went with my Mom, along with the sauce she made for bread pudding.  I've always kicked myself for not learning those two.

Hahhaha, I just found a recipe for mashed potato tacos at AllRecipes.com.

And Ron, I found an impossibly easy Apricot Pie recipe for you too.

And I think one of the nicest people I've met here on the blogs is Randomfactor, I ENJOY HIS WIT.  Oh and my hubby tries to pull that "stuff" on me too, He'll try and do Something and mess it up and I'll jump in and say, I'LL DO IT, I'LL DO IT....

Nancy one more thing how do you make Bisquick ?
posted by NancyII on Aug 9, 2007 at 08:42 AM

How can I answer you when I'm deleted silly goose?

Bisquick is a biscuit mix.  My Mom made the biscuit dough from scratch.   Best idea is to use Bisquick from the box, add a little milk so it's not wet just pliable.  Pinch off a glob, roll it in a circle and that will be your first pie.  Make it about 4-5 inches across.  More later if you need it..gotta go to work now.

I betcha the fine cooks on this blog will step up and help you.
