Ludricrous reall IS ludricrous
Entertainers voicing their opinion is nothing new and they certainly have the right to do so. I don't think their opinions should carry any more weight than mine do, but I digress. They voice their opinions on talk shows, TV series', in films and in song, which brings me to the point of this post. The most recent example of this is a song(if it can be called that)by the rapper Ludricrous endorsing Barack Obama which, on the surface, is fine. Except that this is not a song based on anythinjg other than hate, ignorance and racism. There are no references to any of Obamas accomplishments(which is understandable, as he has so few), his plans, policies or leadership abilities. The gist of the song is that Obama should be president because he is black, which is as ridiculous as the women who supported Hillary simply because she was a female. The song implores listeners to "make the White House black" thus empowering the black people. There is no mention of any other reason to elect him. Can you imagine the outcry if some white guy had a song saying "let's keep the White House white"? He'd be flogged and rightly so. Another double standard that the the left seems content to overlook since it fits their bill, but again, I digress. I will say, in Obama's defense, that he distanced himself from the song and the..um..artist. Another of the disturbing lyrics says "McCain ain't fit for no chair, unless it's a wheelchair". This proves the total lack of humanity and the thug, gangster mentalitiy of so many of todays rappers. To wish such a fate on someone simply because you disagree with them is reprehensible. There is no way to spin one's self out of that. "So don't buy it", you say. No problem, I won't, but tens or hundreds of thousands of young, impressionable, uninformed Americans will. I can hear my detractors telling me that Toby Keith's "Red, White and Blue" could be used to lure impressionable youngsters to the right, but that is apples and oranges. Keith is talking about fighting terrorism, not his fellow Americans. If a young American makes the decision to follow a certain political path, it should be based on their own feelings and ideals and what they would like to see happen and selecting a path based on what is most closely aligned with their views and not on the lyrics of a song by someone so obviously out of touch with the direction in which America needs to be moving. I have heard celebrities make some of the silliest, most uninformed statements I have ever heard, but most of them were done in a civil, tasteful and professional manner(I won't bring up Alec Baldwin) based on what they see as a wrong direction for America, and even though I disagree with most of them, I never feel compelled to bash them over it, but when a celebrity uses hate and ignorance to to make a point to their audience, I feel it is my duty to point it out..I have done so. 28 comments from 15 users

Ludacris is a rapper. He is expressing how he feels and as an American he has every right. The song was made to be funny. He is actually a very good rapper. Whites don't have to say anything ...their actions speak for them. We all know the white house will never be painted black so what is the problem...... FSG...It is not Ludicris or Ludicrous..it is Ludacris... posted by

I already said he has the right to his opinion. The song was NOT made to be funny unless you and Luda-whatever have a very different view on humor than most rational people. As I said already..You can't spin your way out of hatred and racism, Timec..and you just proved my point to everyone here..Thanx..I love it when others make me look smart! I have such a hard time doing it myself! I also love it when these people are psychic. Telling me and everyone else how I feel because I am white or a conservative or a Railroad employee. It makes me all tingly inside! I think Rap sucks and not because of its sound, but because of the message most of it sends. An F bomb in every line, the degradation of women and all races, the violent overtone. I am sure not all rap is that way, but that is what I hear in most every case of someone driving down the street with their stereo blasting rap. I wouldn't know how it's spelled and I really couldn't care less. You forgot to have me check my spelling of "really" in my title, but I wouldn't have anyway..I don't have time for spellcheck! I would have no problem voting for a black or a woman or a purple transexual if I truly believed they were the right person for the job(I would vote for Condie Rice in a heartbeat). Until people with attitudes such as yours are in the vast minority, racism will continue to thrive and keep the nation supplied with those who choose to spread hatred, ignorance and intolerance. Florida..I might want to check the spelling of "really" in my title, but I won't! posted by

I don't see how Towbie Keeth's song is any better. He advocates revenge killing and bombing countries that didn't attack us in the name of freedom. One of these songs have a chance to get people to vote that haven't thought about doing so before, and it ain't the country song. To me, that's a good thing, because I don't care how people vote, just that they do.
Of course, I'm not that good of a judge either. I can't stand most country because I feel like I lose brain cells every time I hear it. posted by

Thanks but I didn't make you look smart. I feel the way I feel and this entire website is aware of the way I feel. Some call it racism others call it voicing my opinion. Why do I have to be a racist because I speak what is on my mind? I have white friends, co workers, and relatives. I don't hate whites but I do hate it when people "act" naive to facts. This is not a matter of black and white...this is a matter of opinion. If you don't like rap DON"T BUY IT. If it comes on your television .TURN IT! It is real simple. I have no problem voting for a white president as long as the one I vote for is not going to have us in a war for 100 years, not senile, and does not wear 520 dollar shoes......but he claims to care about the working class. I would have voted for Hillary because she is a woman and yes I feel it is time for a change....but she lost so Obama it is. Have you heard some of the songs about Barack.....Luda's rap song should be titled Amazing Grace compared to some of the ones I have heard....... Luda's Song Mc Cain is old.....the truth Hillary is a bee-otch.....a matter of opinion Ghetto blacks want the white house painted black...it will never happen.... posted by

timec, if it means anything to you, I don't think you're racist. I will say that a whole bunch of white people don't get rap, and I suspect they never will. Something I've been dealing with since the 80's. posted by

You've got to be kidding me...The message in that song is 'black people, get off your asses and vote!'...language/cultural differences aside, that's a pretty positive message. I read the entire set of lyrics, and what I got out of it was 'don't let anyone discourage you from voicing your opinion, your vote'. Try looking for intent in song, instead of taking everything at face value... I can only imagine you would have been the same guy burning elvis records 50 years ago. How is the line about McCain wishing any fate on the man? In the context of the line, he is stating that he isn't fit for the chair of Presidency, and is more fit for a wheel chair...It's a slam on age and health/wellbeing for the office of Presidency...not a threat to paralyze the man. All this said, I'm not a fan of Ludacris...I'm not a fan of 90% of rap/hip hop music...but get with it man...Aren't you into Bob Dylan at all? Beatles maybe? How about Langston Hughes. You should know literary devices by now. Talk about ignorance and intolerance... Does Condie Rice fit into the purple transexual category you mentioned? posted by

Ludacris may have lost his most famous fan. Yesterday the rapper released “Politics as Usual,” a track from his upcoming CD that sings Barack Obama’s praises. But an Obama spokesman says Luda should be “ashamed” of the tune, which, among its other meditations, calls Hillary Clinton an “irrelevant bitch” and says John McCain “shouldn’t be in any chair unless he’s paralyzed.” Many rappers are preparing Obama-themed tracks, but Ludacris has actually met Obama. In the song, he calls himself one Obama’s “favorite rappers”—perhaps because the senator said in a Rolling Stone interview in June that he listens to Ludacris on his iPod—and asks for “a special pardon if I’m ever in the slammer.” An Obama spokesman said that, while Luda is a “talented individual,” the song is “outrageously offensive.” Sources Washington Post and MTV posted by

I'm sure people would absolutely freak out if Obama said he liked the song. He may very well have liked it, but since it's a mixed message in the song that doesn't portray his message of unity, he must condemn it. Is he being political when he does that? Damn right he is. He's running for President.
Audrey, I'm shocked that you didn't like it. Shocked I tell ya. posted by

Ludacris isn't any more so than Ann Coulter. Hopefully this isn't a play on the guilt by association thang. Otherwise McCain has that whole Keating affair......... posted by

Hold onto your hat, Moto. In some ways, I agree with you. I think it's silly when celebrities are given authority on things that they really have no business being labeled as authorities on. I think they have a right, as we all do, to have an opinion. It's not a partisan thing. It's not a religious thing. It's a culture thing. Somewhere along the line, we started listening to celebrities give endorsements on everything from toothpaste to presidential candidates. Why? I think the answer is that most people don't really care. They want the easy answer and if someone they like happens to pop-up with a position, then they'll take that position. It's one thing I caution my kids about. Whenever you see a celebrity giving an endorsement, alert your kids and ask them why this person should be trusted as an authority on the topic. It's a good idea for adults, too. That said, I don't think Ludacris is going to change the outcome of the election. His highest demographic is too young to vote. posted by

For Ludacris to be such a "racist" person, it's safe to assume that there are so many white kids that buy his music. Do younger generations of White kids just have a sense of "White guilt" or can they actually comprehend and relate to the music? Obama listened to Public Enemy when he was doing grassroots work on the Southside of Chicago, for crying out loud! That can be way more offensive than what Ludacris says if you don't like rap. It's politics, people. Obama listens to Luda and probably has music by "gangster rappers" (Which Luda is not) in his Ipod. posted by

John Voight was great on O'Reilly last night (on BO talking about the other BO)............ (speaking of celebs and their politics) He is being put up for virtual "blacklisting" due to his support of McCain and criticism (very mild actually) of Barry. Mostly its because he has know Cindy McCain for a long time and worked with her to save children around the world. The two that Mother Teresa asked her to take they ended up adopting. Yeah, she's the real deal -- guess he's not supposed to talk about that! posted by

I saw Midnight Cowboy on an in-country R&R down at Cam Rahn Bay once, and he was really good. He and Hoffman. He refuses to get too worked up about all the Libs in Hollywierd wanting his career destroyed though. That tells me a lot about him. I started bow hunting about the time I saw deliverance and his getting "buckego" to where he missed the deer made me laugh. In U-Turn you wouldn't even know he was in it......... posted by

I haven't the time to respond to each criticism of something I said, but I will say that if my detractors would read past the first lines of what I said without letting their anger turn them into skip n scanners, they would see that I had already made the points of rappers and anyone else to voice their opinions, "don't like it, don't buy it", etc..Toby's song was NOT about Iraq. It was written nine days after 9/11 and is about killing terrorists(Isaw him in an interview where it was brought up). Ann Coulter is not a musical artist, she's an over the top right wing ..um..whatever she is and I don't always agree with what she has to say or the way she puts it, but in THAT vein, she is no different than a ton of left wing whatevers. The ludicris...did I spell it right THAT time? song is not telling people to go vote..It is telling people to hate anything that differs from what this artist deems to be OK, and if the message IS about voting, it's about NOT voting for the chick or the white guy. Timec. You are right, everyone on here knows just how you feel..They know that about me too, but I don't make disparaging remarks about Blacks, or any other race..you know..Like " White's don't have anything to say..Their actions speak for them"..That is racist..no matter what your supporters say. no one...umm..My OUTFIT? It's a white, black and gray shirt with the American flag and the famous scene from Easy Riders on it and in the five years I have owned it I have more compliments on it than I can remember..So much for YOUR take on tastes,, but hey..If it makes you feel any better..."Gee NoOne...that really hurt..I'll dispose of it as soon as I'm tired of all the compliments! posted by
