Untitled, but for my detractors
I have been extremely busy these last few weeks, and unable to visit the site and post. I saw on facebook that some of the regulars said things were getting nasty and personal here. Well, it has really always been that way, with many unable to keep it about the topic and deciding to make it personal. That's OK, that really doesn't bother me as I know very few of my detractors here anyway, and the opinions of strangers, where I am concerned, is of absolutely no consequence to me. I came back and read some of the comments to my 9/11 post and was not astounded to see so many had either missed the point, ignored it, or chose to whitewash the realities of what I had to say First off, I stated throughout the post that these were MY opinions. Maybe some ARE inflamatory, but doesn't seem to stop the liberals and Obama socialists from tossing THEIR bombs in the fire. But MY doing makes me divisive..OK. Whatever you say. You should all remember that it was the left, not ME, who began backing down from their tough guy stance when the war in Iraq became unpopular. THEY began berating and demonizing the president for sticking to HIS guns, not ME. The left chose to divide the nation politically in 2003, denying thier role in original support("I was for the war before I was against it"..John Kerry)and the vocal left followed that line of attack..Not ME. So, in the words of Eric Clapton, "Before you accuse me, take a look at yourself". Second: My parents NEVER, EVER discussed politics when I was growing up. They were not political people. We were not a political family. All we wanted to do was try and be a happy family and go race dirtbikes. I wasn't politically aware until my senior year in high school(1976-77)when, in my government class, I began to understand how and why things worked and was able to see what Jimmy Carter's ideas were going to do to America. I didn't like it and received an A on my term paper about my views on the dangerous direction he was leading us. Mr. Ruggles must have been a Republican! Third: It would be fine if Obama had simply been speaking of the unity of 9/12, but let's be honest, he wasn't. He was pushing his ACORN agenda and everyone knows it. I wonder how hard he would have been pushing that had the ACORN tapes been released a week prior? I admitted that he eventually got around to the loss America suffered on that day, but, as I said, it had little feeling or impact. Fourth: I don't have to like Obama, and I don't have to respect him. He has lied and bullied his way along thus far and it is now becoming obvious that America in general, is catching on to his fluff. I said when he was elected that I would give him the benefit of the doubt. I did. He has done NOTHING to ANYTHING better. The deficit is far worse, his promises and projections have proven way off base and he is dividing America along fundamental lines. He seems to have a distaste for the country and its past and is beginning to denounce allies and protect enemies. He doesn't deserve my respect or allegiance. You want to give him yours, fine, but I don't have to. Fifth: I hate Americas enemies. All of them, and I have no regrets for that stance. If you wish to try and tear me down for that view, have at it. I am sick of people dancing around the issue of how Islmaic countries feel about America. Yeah, sure, there are people who don't mind what we are doing or what we believe, but given the chance, most would drop their own personal nukes on us if they thought they could do it wothout fear of repercussion. Does anyone remember the jubilation in the streets of Islamic countries on 9/11? I do, and I'm never going to forget or forgive them for that, and I don't care what anyone thinks of that? You can say what you like about what the people who died on 9/11 may have thought about what I think, but it will always be speculation on both our parts because those people are gone. Killed by a cowardly and hateful enemy who's agenda WAS driven by religous zeal. I'm also sick of the anti-God crowd defending these buttholes because they think they have some understanding of the hearts and minds of Islamic radicals raised in secular households. let me let you in on a secret. There is no such thing in the Arab world as a secular household. There may be pretenders, but secularism will get you killed over there. Athiests are looked upon as lower than Christians or Jews because to have no faith at all is beneath contempt. I could go on, but I won't because in the end it won't matter. I'm not going to change anyone's opinions here and nobody is going to change mine, especially at 50. I have very little time for arguing on a computer anymore, but I will make posts now and again. It's unlikely I will return to them for comment, but please, feel free to use my posts as fodder to pick each other apart. 28 comments from 11 users

I agree with you that you don't have to like Obama. but please don't call me a socialist because I like him. Being called a socialist is one of the "trigger" words which causes Democrats/liberals to return fire (bombs I think you called them). Other than that, I agree with 75% of the rest of your blog. BTW You're 50! No way, you certainly don't look it. posted by

I must say, I am confused about some of these posts. On the one hand, people proudly proclaim their beliefs and also proclaim they don't care if anyone agrees with them or not. Well of course that is everyone's right. But it is the pent up anger that comes through some of these posts that is disturbing to me. I do agree with Motor on one thing, the opinion of strangers is of no importance to me; at the same time I do not like being put into some generalized group that is derided by the poster. We need to look at each other as individuals and to respect each other's beliefs. I think the heighth of arrogance is someone trying to change what I believe. Now, if this belief of mine is based on ignorance or false information, then that is another thing altogether. But to say I am wrong because I am in favor of strawberry ice cream over vanilla, then you are wasting your time. In my opinion, too many people turn on their computer, come to this site and get a mad on immediately. Chill, read, try to understand and have a little civility. We will all be better for it. Before I am attacked repeatedly, yes, I have been guilty of the very things I am talking against. I am doing my best to correct that. posted by

Pssst Audrey. He lied about his age. Or I did. Or I was a child bride. I'm confused. How could he be fifty when I'm so young? Matk's right that we never discussed politics. I'm not sure where the core beliefs come in..whether it was just the general family attitude and values he grew up with, talking with my Dad who was VERY opinionated about everything, outside influences or what but we share about 85% (roughly) of the same opinions socially and pollitically. He didn't "learn" his political views from me but I'd like to think he soaked up enough through his upbringing that he was open to a conservative view when it came time for him to understand politics. Looking back I can't say that my parents discussed politics per se with me but I sure did get an earful of lifes lessons from my Dad and that probably shaped who I am and how I believe to this day. posted by

Pogo, I'm not sure if you think moto is posting in an angry way or not but I can assure you he isn't. It's just the way he believes and makes no apology for it. People on here often mistake stridency for anger. It ain't necessarily so. :-) posted by

stridency That's what I'm afflicted with. Thanks Nancy for giving it a name. I honestly don't intend to sound angry and snarky. The problem is that I'm not subtle enough. posted by

Audrey, you've met Mark, would you say he's an angry person? Outspoken, blunt people often have their written words misinterpreted. We all had a great time at the BBQ's and nary a drop of blood was spilt.......LOL. One of the problems as has been noted many times is that words on a screen appear flat, without inflection. I admire writers who can inject humor in words without any "lol's" or smiley faces and still get the humor across. Mine fall short of that many times. posted by

Nancy, my post was not intended to defame anyone. I was merely commenting on what seems to be a prevelent theme in a lot of these posts, and I got kind of long-winded and put down some of my feelings. posted by

Actually, Nancy, I'd say that our styles are a lot alike. We tell it like it is and even though we don't intend to sound angry it often comes across that way. We're afflicted with the inability to be subtle. Or maybe we're just in a hurry to make our point and move on. In other words, bluntness. Now, Cat by contrast, is the queen of subtle. She must get it from her dad. To answer your question, Mark is NOT an angry person. If he were, he and I would have already been in a fist fight. ; ) posted by

Mark, I've got nothing against you personally. Your conclusions are wrong, in my opinion, from the evidence presented, but hey, you think what you want. It is a free country, after all. The left decided to divide this country? And backed away when the war in Iraq proved unpopular? Please. posted by

Sounds like I touched a nerve... or five.
My two cents: I feel sorry for anyone who actually has hatred for anyone. Dislike and hurt are one thing.. but to wish the death of an entire population is quite something else.
I will continue to pray for you. posted by

It's unlikely I will return to them for comment, but please, feel free to use my posts as fodder to pick each other apart I think that last sentence pretty much says it all about the type of personality that seem to post here. "Pick each other apart", is that what this is all about? Insult each other's beliefs? Doesn't make sense to me. Pretty soon the people that think that way will drive saner people away and have the whole place to themselves. Come to think of it, maybe that is what they want. posted by

I feel sorry for anyone who actually has hatred for anyone. Growing up in a Christian household, I was told it was okay to hate the Devil. Is it hate okay in that case because he's not real or because he's not a person? Is it okay to hate a person when we dehumanize someone (or a group)? Pat Robertson=Ahmadinijead posted by

I seem to remember in the Bible saying if you hate your brother it is the same as murder. And you know what those old 10 laws say about murder. So I don't think it is OK to hate anything except pickled beets. posted by

I seem to remember in the Bible saying if you hate your brother it is the same as murder. But there are *ALSO* instructions on when you should kill your own children or your neighbor, so I'm not sure I'd take the Bible's word on *ANYTHING.* Oh, and god apparently hates shrimp, for some reason. I'd stay away from those too... posted by

Pogo, you are dead wrong my friend! It is NOT OK to hate pickled beets! They absolutely MAKE a salad along with black olives and grated cheese. A few sunflower seeds doesn't hurt either. Now if you really want to hate, broccoli is allowed in that category along with Brussels sprouts and cauliflower. posted by
