About the Boy: Week 8
Well, it will be short and sweet. I was unable to attend this weeks game, it was not televised, and I didn't have the time to listen to all of it on the radio, so I'll just lay out the skinny. Fresno played Utah State in Fresno and beat them 31-27 after being down 27-10 at the half. Ryan ended up with 185 yards rushing on 23 carries with TD's of nine and ten yards. He had only seven carries in the first half! He still leads the nation in rushing and yards per game at 1316 and 164.5 respectively. Next week they go against Idaho. Talk soon! 7 comments from 4 users

Can't believe Matthews isn't higher up on the Heisman Watch charts. Here's hoping he explodes over the remaining games and leaves the Heisman voters in a quandary. posted by

I think if he can maintain the same production and have a fantastic day when they play Illinois, he may have an outside chance of winning the Heisman. There is so much hype around players from big conferences that are undeservingly getting all the love (Tebow, McCoy, etc.) posted by

Like all awards, it's great to be good enough to even be considered. I'm hoping for it too. I guess you guys saw on the other blog that his autographed picture sold on ebay for 17.95. Someday it will be worth a lot more than that but isn't it fun to see it up for auction already? posted by

His chances are great to get the Doak Walker award (best RB). The Heisman is a little more political. Journalist and former Heisman winners vote. How many do you think have been following him? posted by

It's hard enough for any WAC player to get recognition against the Big somethings, the Ivy League and the SEC. It's even harder on a non ranked team. jf is correct in that the Heisman is a press award and is always centered around the hyped players. There is also the fact that Ryan spent most of the last two years injured. That gives those who vote doubts. Ryan is realistic about it all and, as usual, practical, humble and stoic. He just want's to play ball, win games, and touch the ball as often as possible. Awards look nice on the mantle, but lots of $$$ in your bank account look even better! posted by

Did you know that he's a semifinalist for the Maxwell Trophy? I read it somewhere yesterday. Just don't remember where.
