It's MY turn!
Oh, Marie
Poor Rob's Almanac
You can't open a door that is already open
Will the REAL will please stand?
Reality check
Life is for the living
I'll relent..Just a little
It could be worse!

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The two largest mortgage holding corporations in America holding over three TRILLION dollars in mortgages are nothing more than crooks. Everyone knows it. So where is the call to arms by the masses and the congress? Where are the senate hearings and investigations by Congress? Why aren't their honchos explaning themselves to the Grand Poobah's on the hill like the oil exec's have had to do? They have helped make a MUCH bigger mess of things than the oil companies have and no one is saying a thing about it.

I am sure there will be the tired "It's all big oil's fault" battle cry from the masses who castigate big oil for making money but are willing to bail out an industry that has crashed due to its own greed. But that really had little to do with the mortgage crisis, but I digress. I guess if you make money you are a bad guy, but if you need money you are a good guy? I don't get it.

I recently read that these institutions were the largest politcal contributors on BOTH sides in Washington over the last few years and I guess nobody wants to bite the hand that was feeding them, but hey, the mouths of these fetid entities have nothing left but rotted nubs and are no longer dangerous,,,so grow a set!

The mortgage meltdown has and will cost Americans MUCH more than oil prices have or will because the idiots in Washington are ready to float a one hundred BILLION dollar bailout to these titans of piss poor management and foresight, and quite possibly even nationalize them, at least in part..Yeah..That's what we need now. The government in the mortgage business. Has anyone seen the budget defecit lately? The government has proven, beyond a shadow of doubt, that it is unable to run itself, I don't want them handling my mortgage.

Well, I say to hell with Fannie and Freddie. Sell the mortgages to the private sector(Fannie and Freddie are already propped up by the Fed as it is)and let the market work the way it was intended. Let the mess sink or swim on its own and let Fannie and Freddie die quiet deaths the way your business or mine would if we managed it so poorly.

Maybe they picked the distraction of the Olympics to finally announce that they would indeed need the governments help to survive. Dropping the news as Nastia and Shawn battled it our for Gold on the beam..Geez! I'm glad I have a DVR!

I really hate to think that so many people are so caught up in TV, gas prices and the campaign to let this slip by. I don't care what your political leaning, this should really piss you off! It's bad enough that Ford and GM are earmarked for bailouts, but at least they are VICTIMS of the economic crisis, Fannie and Freddie are one of the biggest CAUSES of it.

August 3rd marked the death of my PC. Well, it may not be dead, but it seems to be in a chronic vegetative state! It won't do anything at all, and at this time, I haven't the money to mess with it. What, with my twso youngest daughters birthdays next week as well as back to school expenses on top of all the regular financial headaches, it's just not a priority.

The first couple of days I went into DT's over it, but with the occasional fix I get using my work PC, I get on well enough. I also have a bajillion hours of the Olympics on DVR to keep me distracted and I am enjoying reading more often also, not to mention getting to bed at a decent hour.

I went without the internet for the first 38 years of my life and did just fine, so I am certain I will survive. It's an inconvenience, but not a life altering event. I do miss being able to run in and post a blog and being able to look something up quickly, but I'll make through that too. It's kind of a pain, but it ain't bad.

See you all regularly ASAP....

Entertainers voicing their opinion is nothing new and they certainly have the right to do so. I don't think their opinions should carry any more weight than mine do, but I digress. They voice their opinions on talk shows, TV series', in films and in song, which brings me to the point of this post.

The most recent example of this is a song(if it can be called that)by the rapper Ludricrous endorsing Barack Obama which, on the surface, is fine. Except that this is not a song based on anythinjg other than hate, ignorance and racism. There are no references to any of Obamas accomplishments(which is understandable, as he has so few), his plans, policies or leadership abilities. The gist of the song is that Obama should be president because he is black, which is as ridiculous as the women who supported Hillary simply because she was a female. The song implores listeners to "make the White House black" thus empowering the black people. There is no mention of any other reason to elect him. Can you imagine the outcry if some white guy had a song saying "let's keep the White House white"? He'd be flogged and rightly so. Another double standard that the the left seems content to overlook since it fits their bill, but again, I digress. I will say, in Obama's defense, that he distanced himself from the song and the..um..artist.

Another of the disturbing lyrics says "McCain ain't fit for no chair, unless it's a wheelchair". This proves the total lack of humanity and the thug, gangster mentalitiy of so many of todays rappers. To wish such a fate on someone simply because you disagree with them is reprehensible. There is no way to spin one's self out of that.

"So don't buy it", you say. No problem, I won't, but tens or hundreds of thousands of young, impressionable, uninformed Americans will. I can hear my detractors telling me that Toby Keith's "Red, White and Blue" could be used to lure impressionable youngsters to the right, but that is apples and oranges. Keith is talking about fighting terrorism, not his fellow Americans.

If a young American makes the decision to follow a certain political path, it should be based on their own feelings and ideals and what they would like to see happen and selecting a path based on what is most closely aligned with their views and not on the lyrics of a song by someone so obviously out of touch with the direction in which America needs to be moving.

I have heard celebrities make some of the silliest, most uninformed statements I have ever heard, but most of them were done in a civil, tasteful and professional manner(I won't bring up Alec Baldwin) based on what they see as a wrong direction for America, and even though I disagree with most of them, I never feel compelled to bash them over it, but when a celebrity uses hate and ignorance to to make a point to their audience, I feel it is my duty to point it out..I have done so.

I see that Kern County is considering a "Dark Sky" policy. I love it! As a long time amatuer astronomer this is wonderful news! It may or may not pass, but it is certainly worth consideration. These laws and/or policies are actually aimed at energy conservation and not the back yard scope owners, but if I can get some of that icing from the cake, so be it!

I live in Riverlakes and am, therefore, unable to see anything but the Moon, Jupiter, Saturn and a few of the larger stars from my home. My two younger daughters have always lived in Bakersfield(I lived in Tehachapi when I got into the hobby)and have probably spent less than 30 minutes at the eyepiece of my 8" Schmidt-Cassegranian. How sad! I recently took the scope to my nephews house out near the canyon so someone could enjoy it.

I hope the communities get behind this, if not to be able to show their kids the Big Dipper and the North Star, then to cause cities and businesses to conserve energy.

My alarm clock goes off at 6:20 am every weekday. I'm not a snooze kind of guy so I get up, scrub my jaws and stumble through the rest of my morning ritual. I then get on the computer, check my personal and company e-mails, the morning trouble ticket reports(signal problems over the last 24 hours), any tests in alert status and various other reports that keep my days busy scheduling and running around.

After a swig of Propel to wash down my vitamins and meds I dial up the morning conference call and listen to the guys from here to Sacramento give their job briefings and explain any overtime calls from the previous night. That is always followed by an avalanche of calls from my guys letting me know what they need from me in terms of help, material and a compassionate ear, which I do not possess when they start whining about this that and the other. My irritability begins to show itself about this time.

Then I put on my boots, grab the paper, jump in my pickup and hit Rosedale Hiway at about ten of eight. Yeah..THAT road at THAT time! It doesn't help my grumbling any. I try and keep a moderate pace as I head into town from Riverlakes, but I am rarely successful. Then, as I am starting to snap at my windshield about all the lousy drivers and the states inability to get a freeway built to alleviate this mess, my boss calls and wants me to change my plans for the day and get on some project for which I really haven't the time or resources..or desire! GGGRRRR...

Then, as I pass under 99 and notice the traffic backed up into the 99 offramp/Buck Owens Blvd. intersection and every dipstick from the southwest driving like a scared teenager trying to merge onto 24th St into town and as many yo-yos from the northwest(except ME of course!) trying to merge from 24th into the right turn lane to turn right onto Oak St., my blood is just below the boiling point. I am aggrivated and grumbling. I am hungry and in need of coffee, water, tea or another propel and I need, at the very least, an English Muffin and all these bozo's are in my way. I click my turn indicator(something most of these drivers don't seem to realize is a standard feature on their vehicle) on to get into the right turn lane. I force my way between a guy in a Camry wearing a tie and a gal in an Aveo wearing scrubs then slam on the brakes to avoid rear ending a soccer Mom in an Escalade who is texting while sitting 200 feet from the intersection with nobody in front of her because the light is green! Just as she realizes what she is doing and takes off the light turns yellow and she stops and starts texting again instead of turning right as the traffic from Oak turns left onto 24th. I honk, I curse, I flail my arms wildly about and she finally jumps out onto Oak as those turning left onto Oak off 24th get their light keeping me from doing anything but snorting and grunting.

BALLS!!! What is wrong with these people! They are driving me nuts! I am going to have a stroke! My light finally turns green and I get onto Oak behind a gal in a business suit putting on makeup and some octanigarian next to her with no clue as to where he is, both going 25mph which causes me to miss the left turn light at 21st st.

21st you may ask. Why not just go all the way downtown on 24th since I am headed for Tina Marie's on 20th and Chester anyway? 24th?..Naw..Both lanes packed with everyone in town running late, cutting each other off, gassing it up to 60 then slamming on the brakes to avoid the backup from the left lane all the way through town. Naw..As I sit at the light at 21st and Oak my pulse slows, my blood pressure drops and my breathing stabilizes.

My light turns green and I calmly and easily start the cruise down one of Bakersfields lovliest streets. I don't know if it is the trees, the cool old mansions and beautiful landscaping, the easy to hold 35 mph speed limit. I just don't know, but by the time I hit 'F' St. I am a different man. I am calm and relaxed and realize that Tina's will be there even if it takes me a few more minutes to get there. I love 21st St.

How about anyone else? Any streets or places in your morning ritual drive(or ride)that has that effect on you? Lemme know!

The left and it's lapdog, a.k.a. the media, have proven me right once again. Not that that makes me unique. Their predictablilty makes many people look like psychics! Yes, once again shiny objects have taken their attention away from, what was just a few short months ago, the most important issue of this generation; The War.

I guess it is easy to let that go seeing as how things are actually going pretty well there now(just as many of we psychics predicted)and we, along with the Iraqi's are seeing the insurgency slowly deteriorate in the face of overwhelming numbers and lack of Iraqi support form the citizens there and there is really no way for the detractors to spin it any other way. They don't like it that we are still there, but hey, neither do I!

The daily diatribes against the president which they seemed to require as sustenance a short time ago have virtually disappeared. The man on their most wanted list for the last seven plus years is suddenly just another guy..I love it! It seems that all the issues that were going to bring western civilization to its knees since 2000 have been forgotten in the face of all the new shiny objects floating around, namely a collapsing economy based on rising energy prices that they know, way down inside, they precipitated and perpetuated by holding hands with the tree huggers in the old "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" strategy and they know that they can bally-hoo till the cows come home, but they really cant blame it on Dubya, so they have just stopped trying. I guess they do at least realize that to continue to toss blame around is making them look weak and childish. Bush has wanted to open ANWR and the coasts since he took office, but no, trying to make him look bad by bedding down with an environmental lobby who are more concerned with controling the poulation than real change to help the environment was more important than the economic future of the nation. Whining about gas prices now just makes them look like the bad guys and America is tired of bad guys.

The impending credit crisis? Bush was never really a friend of the big banking industry(except the bank where he keeps HIS wad of jack) and would be content to watch it go down by the head and he said so in his "off the record" You Tube blurb. But in the face of pressure from the do-gooders, it seems he will go against what seems to be his better judgement and bail out Freddie and Fannie. Yeah..well the left also knows they can't blame the prez for that mess either. It's not his fault that so many people failed to read the fine print, ask the right questions(if they asked any at all)or just use their heads for something other than hatracks when they got a half million dollar home for $1,500 and month with nothing down and without having to prove income. Nor did he encourage the idiots at Bank of America, along with a few other fine American institutions to hand out credit cards to illegal immigrants. Oh yeah...we cant say anything about that lest we be deemed racists! So, with the exception of those who simply hate Bush for reasons they really can't explain, the guy is pretty much yesterdays news as is the war.

How about the other shiny objects..Hillary and Obama? More reasons to put Dubya on a back burner and turn down the heat. The media frenzy over the democratic primaries and and the susequent Obama victory that, in my opinion, was pushed along by a media that seemed to be waiting for a photo op of him walking on water as they lifted him to an exalted status have relegated Bush to the "also ran" status in the media and the left seem to be willing to follow the media as blindly as I have been accused of following Bush(who I am extremely happy will be leaving the Big Chair come next January).

True, Bush WILL be gone very quickly, but that hasn't stopped them in the last year. Everything he said was scrutinized and he was lambasted for making even grammatical errors. His comments in Houston last week would have had the house filled with his enemies pounding their chests and shaking their fists as they called for his censure, but that entire episode was on page two the next day and forgotten by the end of the week.

I still dont think Obama can win, but I am glad so much attention is being lavished upon him by the media. It will make his defeat that much sweeter. Ah, I can see it now..Obama walking solenmly down the hall dragging his purple robes, kicking the floor and talking to himself and the left nor the media will learn anything about the distractions of shiny objects even after pieces such as this piss them off so badly!
