Oildale Neighbors

Hello I am a 57 year old retired single grandmother raising a unique granddaughter. It's 12:28 pm and again my neighbors have awakened me this time by throwing lumber outside my window. I have lived in this house for over 7 years. Since becoming a resident in this dale I have tried to better my environment, be a good neighbor and improve my area and granted we've had a few positive changes. But I ask where have COMMON courtesy, respect and sense gone? Is it that the parents no longer teach it or the child itself is so damaged by adulthood he/she has no clue? An example: It's a no burn day and my neighbors have a fire in there back yard. I do realize I live in the Heart of the Hood of the Dale but still. Why can't this area of Oildale show some respect , compassion for others and self-worth? I don't know maybe I'm soaking in this mentality, becoming someone who just doesn't give a ___ any more. Sorry folks I'm a wee bit perturbed when I get woke up.

It may be of little solace to you, but it's not just in the 'dale. There is a lack of civility and courtesy everywhere I turn.

Maybe it's television, music or those flipping 6' wood privacey fences!

oildale will always be oildale..what goes on in your neck of the woods depends on the area you living..ive had friends and family live there on and off my whole life..so i know your problem is not unique to the area..infact if this is the worst thats happened in 7 years id say your doing pretty good..

if you cant talk to the neighbors i would move..not really the environment i would want to raise my grand daughter in anyway if i had to move to an apartment in a better part of town.....

a reality check i just went through concerning oildales progression in todays world..recently I went to purchase an item i found on craigslist..it was north of 7th standard and west of the north chester area..my wife lived not to far from there when she was in high school back when it was the higher end living for that area ..

anyway i was amazed at all the metal security doors the homes had installed  ..just seeing those if i were looking to buy and raise a family would make me keep on driving..in an effort to be safe they are driving down their own property values..it just kind of depressed me that the people had been forced to go to those lengths to protect their personal property..i mean whats next gun slots being cut into their walls??

I'm assuming you meant midnight: 38 and not 12:38 in the afternoon?  If in the middle of the night I'd probably stick my head out the window and ask if they could work more quietly.  If I was afraid of retaliation, I'd move and let them have it..

If it was in the early afternoon, there isn't much you can do about the noise I guess, except talk to the neighbors.

I live in Oildale too but in a quiet section of nice older homes.  I'll tell you how unique it is, a couple of houses just went on the market for rent and I didn't even know they were rentals.  Even the tenants and landlord over here take care of their property.

I moved here with every intention of getting out as soon as I could...I've been here for 3 full years this month.  That wouldn't have happened if it had been a bad neighborhood.

edited add on...when I lived in Park Stockdale the people two houses down played their car stereos as loud as they could causing me to notify the association AND the police.  They had spa parties that lasted til 3 am.  They had lots of cars making fast little stops and moving on.  Then there were the people who lived behind them who sat on a sofa in the front yard (where the grass was all dead), had bedspreads and sheets hanging for curtains and had kids who were little hoodlums.  It happens in all neighborhoods unfortunately.

Moving into the heart ot the 'Dale is probably not the best idea unless you want to join in the activities.  I know the rent is cheaper but is it worth the misery?

I have people who live across the street from me, They annoy the heck out of me.  cars in and out all day the one tweaker was up at 7 am mowing her yard with a no motor push mower.....All day!!    I'm that neighbor, tweakers hate to have! I have no problem expressing how I feel about what they are doing...LOL   I've lived in oildale  20+ yrs  I had my share of problems but nothing we couldn't handle.     It would be a cold day in hell when I let a bunch of nasty tweakers push me around.    12pm?  Not much you can do about noise.

i think she meant AM ladies by the time of her post..musta had sleep in mind..

I agree nancy good and bad in all neighborhoods....mine is no exception trust me...back when i first moved in we used to have block parties..now a few of the good people have passed on or moved and a few more city folks with their high falutin ways have replaced them.. i sure miss the days of waving at your neighbor and getting a wave back as your drivin down the road.

What would happen if you reported them to county authorities?  Would they retaliate?

Just had to pop in for this one!

i live in a great neighborhood. Everyone looks out for the neighbors, it's quiet and peaceful,  lots of activities and great people.  I moved to Kern city from the neighborhood where we raised our children after it deteriorated to what you folks are describing. I would certainly recommend those over 55 with no children at home under 18 check out Kern City to buy or rent.

Roy

Cat claims that the best neighbors are ones who are retired.  She's surrounded by "old" people and loves it.

I'd love to rent there Roy, but It's a little steep for my budget.  Besides I keep one ggson two days a week and the other when his mom needs a backup.  I doubt that would go well over there...lol.

Nancy. visiting Grandkids are okay.  We even have special times set for them to use the pool.  You might check on the rent. The condos are not that expensive.

I dunno Roy, the  announcement has been made that I'm to be a great grandma again.  Another boy for grrandson and his wife so I'll have two of them twice a week.   I asked if they were planning a baseball team.  I dunno if I can handle that many..we;ll soon have THREE boys near in age to terrorize the city.

I'm glad they're nearer in age.  My grandkids are all 5 years apart.  They really never got to play together with cousins OR siblings.
