Dang, that guy was a shameless racist. Scary.

There are people who always blame it on "the Mexicans." High crime, the state budget crisis, the economic meltdown, the Swine Flu, and whatever else you can think of. Vanityfair nailed it, though. It's shameless racism.

Repulsive and unhelpful. You got a twofer, Lois!

To one of the caller's issues about here, and there. In Calgary, there is plenty of ethnic diversity, notably Asian, with at least 17 different Asian dialects within the metro Calgary area. The guest speaker, Lois reported on, mentioned this in the Q&A section of his remarks.

On his other unenlightened observations.

"It's Mexico."

How convenient to be able to blame all the ills of society on one group of people, and to always be able to absolve yourself and your like minded comrades of any responsibility for what got us to this point. Funny, there would not be much in the way of North American tweakerdom, junkiedom and potheadedness if it were not for the good old boys and girls who indulged so heavily for so long here in the United States of Addicts. If you have no market there is no point in having any supply. The product becomes worthless. That is not the current case today. People of all colors and backgrounds who find they need to escape their reality everyday seek out products that alleviate their perceived boredom and perceived hopelessness.

Regarding Mexico, and the Mexican people who have been cheated for years by corrupt governments and the free market capitalists who have failed in their social obligations to fund the nesessary infrastructure and provide opportunities for so much of their population,  it has been the large US agribusiness interests that have continually brought these migrants to work in their fields, slaughterhouses and processing plants to undercut hard earned wage concessions by unions and American labor.

Mexican people are not any more likely to dispose of unwanted pets or fail to license their pets than any other nationality you could name. I really don't think it advances any solution to our collective problem by scapegoating in a generalized and ignorant fashion one group of people. Get licenses for your pets and a lot of these pet problems could go away. Your neighbors here in Bakersfield are not going anywhere, learn how to live with another culture.
