Bring it, oh ye' faithful!
I received the following e-mail, via the e-mail address here on bako.com. I'm posting it for two reasons; a) It's just THAT funny. b) It's just that asinine. But, judge for yourself. I've also included my response (in red) and the final e-mail in the exchange...following my reply. How are you suggest that our heavenly father does not exist? You should be ashamed of yourself. I'm not sure "how" I dare do it... but I do. And, I'm rarely ashamed of myself. Your sad and pathetic attempt at gathering atheists in Bakersfield is sad and pathetic. And, redundancy is redundant. When God finds out about what you are doing, he will be very angry and will send nothing but bad your way. Are you suggesting that your God is unaware of the actions of the people? Or, am I just that good that I can subvert the omniscience of GOD. By the way, I think your God might be a wee bit perturbed when he sees your insolence. How dare you not capitalize the name of your Lord and Savior?! And... so much for a perfectly just God, huh? If your God exists, and he/she/it was perfectly just, then he/she/it would start a blog and question my existence...no t smote me with bad joo-joo. You will bow before him and ask for mercy. Only if you are lucky will he show you such mercy. You bow to your sensei, I'll bow to mine. And,... your slip is showing again. "Only if I'm lucky"?? Since when is the will of God about luck? Are you placing limitations on your deity's powers? You worship yourself above the Lord and your heavenly father. How angry the Lord will be when the atheists stand before him on judgment day. How scared you will be when you realize the true power of the holy spirit. Woe unto you. If you're right, then we will be as God made us. No? Would he really be angry that a group of humans examined his existence using the brain he made and the natural laws he provided? Would an omnipotent deity be so petty? If God exists, I think such a power would find your using him as a weapon of fear to be patently absurd and wasteful of the time HE has given you on this earth. How angry will he be when he finds you have ignored one of his commands: judge not, lest ye' be judged? How angry will your God be when HE finds that you have taken the yoke of his authoritay' upon yourself. Woe indeed. I hope that your pathetic group of atheist friends are treated with the same disrespect that you are showing god. How very Christian of you. Peace be with you. I am confident that God will make your life one of misery and suffering as long as you continue to defy him. Then your God is not deserving of worship. If the God that you worship exists, and he's that petty, and he's a God of suffering and misery, then I do not see any reason for setting such a deity up to be worshiped. Would you worship the bully who tortures cats because the cat doesn't bow it's head in his presence? Would you worship an abusive parent who allows their child the choice to follow them, but then beats the child when said child chooses a different path? You might want to rethink your portrayal of God...because, frankly, you officially suck at Public Relations. May god have mercy on your soul and the souls of all atheists. Friends in Christ. Go in peace, dude. So...the response to this?? "F*@* You. Rot in hell." What would Jesus do, indeed? Can you all feel the love? Gee... with friends-in-Christ like this, who needs enemies?

I suspect it's a front e-mail address. No one, aside from the passionately deluded, would self-style themselves as "Warrior4Christ06". Heck... I'm a pretty fervent atheist and none of my e-mail addresses have the word "atheist" in them. I'm kind of hoping that he/she will be embarrassed enough to post on this thread. In fact, this is my open invitation: Yo'! Warrior4Christ06, if you're reading this, here's your chance to publicly rebut my claims. Bring it!

It's only the ones who know their faith is hollow who are scared out of their wits that someone else doesn't believe as they pretend to. I've noted that as well, RF. I think what makes me chuckle is the counter claims that YOU (as an atheist) are going to burn for questioning a deity, but they're totally righteous when placing all sorts of anthropomorphized limitations on the very thing the claim is untestable and beyond-limits. If *I* were a deity, which I'm not and would never want to be, I'd be pretty torqued if people started defining me or doling out punishments/rewards in my name before I'd vested them with authroitay' (sorry- my inner Cartman is peeking out). It just strikes me as soooooooo hypocritical that it's okay to be an arse', so long as you do it in the name of Jesus. posted by

Ron, the thing is that the people who call themselves Christians get to decide for themselves whether or not the description is appropriate*. You may not like the writer's interpretation of Christianity, but it's not a rare one. . *(Take the Virginia Tech shooter, for example: http://www.washingtonpost.c... ) posted by

Poss did the e/m say this or was this your reply? I mean this one comment. Everything in black was said by the e-mailer (the God Warrior). Trust me...I may be an atheist, but I'm not a big fan of the F-word. And, I think the whole exchange struck me as "funny" because,...here this person had spent a few minutes on this hate-filled missive... and I took some time responding, only to be blown off by those two words (F and U). It's like the internet equivalent of taking your toys and going home. :) posted by

Many will come in the name of Christ but check out or try all spirits for most are not of God. Ron, I understand what you're saying and, even if you took it out of the Bible, it's still good advice. People are best judged by their words and deeds, and not by the label they put upon themselves. The problem is that, with regard to Christianity, there are variant definitions of what is, and is not, a Christian. It would seem the definition is in the eye of the beholder. What you and I might agree to be "un-Christian" behavior, might be seen by a fundamentalist as not only acceptable, but admirable. But, I *do* understand that this person is a bad example of humanity (let alone Christianity). posted by

I love it when religous folk try to scare an atheist with warnings of what God is going to do to them. Talk about wasted breath! Groundrules for dialogues between atheists and Christians. 1. Don't try to prove the existence of God by quoting the Bible. 2. Don't try to threaten or otherwise scare an atheist into becoming a Christian by describing what God is going to do to them. 3. Don't assume that atheists worship Satan since they don't believe in God 4. Please understand that atheists aren't worried about going to hell, because they know it dosn't exist. 5. Please understand that morality existed looooooooong before the Bible was written. People (isolated tribes etic.) who've never heard of God, Jesus, Mary, or the Bible are moral. 6. There ARE atheists in foxholes. II know this firsthand. 7. Atheists are HAPPY. 8. Atheists are HAPPY you have your religion. They just don't want you to stop trying to convert them. They also want you to stop being judgmental. 9. If you can understand and follow these guidlines, you should be able to talk to any atheist without feeling attacked.

I understand all Atheist dont believe in a God of creation as the bible teaches and of course you dont believe there are evil spirits. People that have turned away from God after confessing they believe in Jesus can become prossed with a spirit not only one but many. This is why I always referr to the Word and by doing so you can see the spirit that is false. Ron This is why I have trouble with Catholic's and Mormons and J/W, not the people but the teachings. posted by

You get a personal email from a statistical outlier and you're going to publicly ridicule my, and many other peoples' religious beliefs? That's certainly THE educated, grown-up response. Actually, it's quite sophomoric and inconsiderate. "Two wrongs don't make a right.".................. You have NEVER been attacked by me, because of your personal beliefs, yet you post this blog attacking mine, in Christianity. Yes, I am personally offended by this whole thing. Your tactics aren't exactly how one might go about promoting tolerance. An Atheist needs all of the tolerance that can be publicly mustered, since there are so very few. Think about what you've just done, in the name of being "Pissed Off". Congratulations on drying up an entire truck load of public tolerance for Atheists, like yourself. Tony Harrison posted by

Tony, I was not attacking you. Had you read the whole post and the comments in this thread, you would've seen where I'd said that I didn't think this was representative of ALL Christians. And, I most certainly never said this person represented YOU. I didn't even attack Christianity. If anything, the e-mailer did more to attack a positive perception of your faith than I ever did. Where is your venom for that person? Where is your personal afront at the fact that this person, calling him/herself the same name as you, DID come to this blog...a blog for Bakersfield atheists, and said that what we were about was not only pointless...but, was going to earn us bad luck and a spot in hell? Where is your afront to his/her misrepresentation of you? It's interesting...you're not angry at this person for holding the opinion, you're angry with me for publicly exposing the hypocrisy of Christianity. Love thy neighbor...unless they're atheist. I posted it here because this is a blog for the ATHEIST COMMUNITY of BAKERSFIELD. Recognize that the e-mailer meant this message for all Bakerfield atheists. An Atheist needs all of the tolerance that can be publicly mustered, since there are so very few. I think you need to check some statistics. As far as what tolerance might be "publicly mustered"...oh, how big of you to be tolerant of my beliefs. Seriously... did you even read what you wrote? I'm supposed to keep my mouth shut when someone insults ME, and people who share my perspective, but...I shouldn't speak out against those insults because it makes it harder for YOU to find tolerance for the victim? Interesting. Very interesting. Think about what you've just done, in the name of being "Pissed Off". Where did you get "pissed off" from? I stated that I found the whole exchange kind of humorous. Do I call someone on their nonsense? Absolutely. Does that make me angry? No. I think you might be projecting a bit.

"Bring it, oh ye' faithful!" This is the beginnings of an attack. I did read your entire post. This person sent you an email. It wasn't right, but it wasn't public. I also said "Two wrongs, don't make a right." I never agreed with what was sent to you. I also don't agree with you taking it to the public venue. You're not going to win support from me (neither will the other person), or the majority of the public on this one. There are most likely 30 or 40 lurkers to every poster on these blogs. I dare say that the vast majority will have NO sympathy for an Atheist. With your post, you just made it worse for yourself, and those like you. YOU just shot yourself on the foot.

I also don't agree with you taking it to the public venue. And, you'll get no argument from me about your right to feel this way. I asked you to show me where I, as you claimed, "publicly ridiculed" your religion (or Christianity, for that matter). Whether or not I have your support is inconsequential to the original issue. Since when has the majority had the unquestionable truth? Quite often, the majority falls somewhere in the middle of truth and falacy. You made a claim- back it up. I don't see how, by defending myself and asking someone about their God, I made things worse for myself. And, in fact, a few hardcore Christians have agreed with me that this person is not justified in making the claims they made. If the vast majority has "no sympathy for an atheist", then they are not acting in the nature of the Christ they claim to believe in. YOU just shot yourself on the foot. Maybe in your eyes... but, I'll still wait for you to show evidence for your claims. Where, in the original post or any of these comments, have I maligned YOUR faith or Christianity? posted by

There are nuts out there on both ends of the stick. We all know it. If they're not heard, most of the time, they go away. Stooping to their level only makes me think that YOU'RE a nut too. Tell me, what positive outcome is expected from this blog? Fair question, Tony. I'm not sure. If nothing else, it opened a dialogue between several members regarding what is, and what is not, an acceptable message of Christianity. If nothing else, allRED and I agreed on something. If nothing else, dusty got a laugh. If nothing else, I was made aware of how certain people couldn't see my humor and I may need to work on that. If nothing else, a few Christians got a dose of what I receive in my inbox on, at least, a weekly basis. Normally -the stuff never gets posted, because...as long as the sender is reasonable and refrains from profanities, I'll talk with them until we're both blue in the face. But, this guy/gal's last statement of "F- You. Rot in hell." was just too out there. It was the epitome of irony that this person was trying to school an atheist on what it meant to be Christian, but then used such language and obvious unenviable attitude. posted by
