Toys, toys, toys - wanna' play?

Earlier this evening, my son and I started talking about toys.  I was trying to explain to him that, even though I was born in the 70's, I didn't have many toys growing up.  And, the toys I did have involved mostly outdoor pursuits (skates, bike, baseball, jump rope, hopscotch markers, etc.,.).  I knew friends who had entire rooms filled with toys, but that wasn't how it was in my family.  Compare that to now.  While our kids have, mostly, engaging things like art supplies, Lego, blocks, bikes, basketball hoops, and a sandbox filled with dry beans for indoor play), they also have a sufficient amount of other toys.  We try to clean them out and donate them every few months.  Anyway, back to the topic...we thought this little poll would be fun.

1.  What year or era were you born?

2.  What was/were your favorite toy(s) as a small child?

3.  What was/were your favorite toy(s) as a child over 10?

4.  Which toys did you want but never received?

5.  What toys did you receive but didn't want?

6.  Which toys did your parents hate most?

7.  Which toy did you play with most? (This isn't the same as your favorite toy, because you may have played with something more despite liking it less.)

8.  If you're a parent, what was the first toy you bought or remember from your child's first years?

Have fun.  My answers will be in comments.

7.  Which toy did you play with most? (This isn't the same as your favorite toy, because you may have played with something more despite liking it less.) - I like board games and played them alot.

8.  If you're a parent, what was the first toy you bought or remember from your child's first years? - Those stacker rings from Fisher-Price and that octagon-ish toy that you fit various shapes into.

Possummomma, I think I can explain the snow-cone thing.  I did have a snow-cone machine, but rarely got to use it, because a) it required adult supervision and my parents usually didn't want to mess with it,  and b) the syrups left some pretty bad stains, if you weren't really careful.

1.  What year or era were you born?  1958

2.  What was/were your favorite toy(s) as a small child? My Easy-Bake Oven, and my Creepul Peepul (both of which, I still have)

3.  What was/were your favorite toy(s) as a child over 10? Roller skates

4.  Which toys did you want but never received?  One particular outfit for my Barbie.  But when Hallmark came out with a Barbie ornament about 12 years ago, in that same dress, I bought it.  Close enough!

5.  What toys did you receive but didn't want?  My little brother

6.  Which toys did your parents hate most?  Klick-Klacks

7.  Which toy did you play with most?  Bicycle

8.  If you're a parent, what was the first toy you bought or remember from your child's first years?  Something purchased for my son called "Bristle Bears"  They were flat, plastic bears with bristly surfaces, and they stuck together.

1.  What year or era were you born?  1953 (Sage! We're soul mates!)

2.  What was/were your favorite toy(s) as a small child? I *made* my own indian costumes. Head band, arm band, loin cloth, chaps, moccasins, bow and arrows made from Johnson grass.

3.  What was/were your favorite toy(s) as a child over 10?  Tree House and basketball

4.  Which toys did you want but never received? A war bonnet like the Sioux and Lakota wore.

5.  What toys did you receive but didn't want? A stupid plastic race car my crabby aunt gave me

6.  Which toys did your parents hate most? I really didn't have any toys unless I made them myself. My dad was 6'7", I'm 6'6" and my two brothers are 6'5". Two sister are 5'10, so basketball was the big deal for my whole family. I was obsessive about playing basketball and it annoyed my dad, but I wouldn't say he hated it.

7.  Which toy did you play with most? (This isn't the same as your favorite toy, because you may have played with something more despite liking it less.)  Basketball

8.  If you're a parent, what was the first toy you bought or remember from your child's first years? A stuffed animal, a raccoon that my daughter still has. I bought it the day before she was born at Castle AFB's Base Exchange where I was stationed in 1977.
