Do you find it as interesting as I do that CFP is up on all things Obama more than our own media? Just applying his exceptional community organization skills. Nukes in Iran, Heathcare, tax & cap, ... over his head? Maybe that's why he wants to ram these through as fast as possible as details are boring and confusing. posted by

I don't think he likes it in Washington DC as much as he thought he would. The way he flies about, you'd think he has nothing much to tend to. Maybe his bed isn't comfortable in the White House. Wonder if he'll take the Wife and kiddies. They may as well take in all the vacations they can on our dime. posted by

Even Milt Romney said it would look bad if he did not go...that is what sealed the deal for London, the Prime Minister making a appeal. The other heads of state for the countries in contention are all going to be there. Now back to your regular scheduled "out rage".

The other heads of state for the countries in contention are all going to be there. Great. Now we have sunk to the level of Spain, Brazil and Japan. All other past presidents delegated the task, and focused on real problems in America, like the 54% unemployment amoung young people... Clearly all the above posters don't know how to multitask. Great. Maybe he could give the Commander in Afghanistan a call and see if he can do anything to bring an end to that effing quagmire. Or at least offer him a couple hookers from Chicago to relax him...Good grief. He has spoken to his Commander fighting his major war, ONCE..... But if this trip keeps him from moonlighting as a schill for Letterman, Lopez and the Shamwow, then I am all for it.... posted by

It was a joke Sage. The Worlds Fair and the Olympics aren't quite the same. Still, why Chicago? Why not a city that needs the economic boost? (I see I'm stuttering again this mroning. My desktop died and I'm stuck with the laptop and it's munchkin keyboard.) posted by

Chicago DOES need an economic boost. It's a crumbling rust belt city. Wait a minnit, OBAMA'S from Chicago. That's the outrage. posted by

I got that Nancy. So was my flippant reply. I believe it is up to the city to apply for the Olympics. Bakersfield should start that committee now...

Sorry Sage...I'm slow this morning. :-) Nice try on the oh you're against it because obama is from there STG. Funny he's not championing cities in greater need..like Detroit which actually IS crumbling. There are probably at least a dozen cities in greater need than Chicogo..it's not considered one of the dying cities. IS the fix in already? posted by

Nancy, I don't think Detroit is in any financial shape to make a bid on the Olympics. It would be a good thing for the U.S. to get the Olympics, the President is trying to help the country, and if it falls in his home state/town so much the better. What part of that do you people find so hard to understand? posted by

Pogo, what part of revitallization do you not understand? I don't mean to be snotty but that's exactly what you just said. What city actually does have the funds, all alone, to host the Olympics? Aren't they subsidized? posted by
pogo

No, they are not subsidized. The cities have to bid for them and show that they have, or will build needed facilities. Remember back in the 80s when the Olympics came to LA and Peter Uberoth ran it? There was all kinds of controversy about traffic, old stadiums, etc. yet it made a profit. Some entity would have to be willing to front Detroit a lot of cash to get ready for such an undertaking and I don't think the will is there to get it done. On the other hand, Chicago has been aiming at this for a long time and is ready to make its case. posted by

From what I read TV networks pay the big bucks to the OIC for the rights to televise it and the Chinese govt paid to build the stadiums etc when it was there. Are you saying our govt won't be kicking in some lucre? posted by

Yet another example of the rightwinger's hypocrisy. Where were the complaints from the right when Bush went to China for the Olympics in 2008 when the economy was crashing? http://www.americanprogress...

The cities fully expect to get some revenue, even hope to make a profit (like LA). More often than not though, they lose money (Montreal damn near went bankrupt). My point is, you mentioned Detroit (what do you have against Chicago?), and I am trying (ineptly it seems) to make the point that Detroit is a disaster area with no credit rating. Am I hearing a staunch conservative voice calling for a bailout of a failing city? Saints preserve us! posted by

Why do rightwingers hate America?
The study found that the Games are expected to stimulate $22.5 billion of incremental economic activity in the State of Illinois—$13.7 billion in the City of Chicago alone—during the 11-year span of 2011 through 2021. The study also found that 315,000 new job-years will be created during this period. http://www.chicago2016.org/...

TSM, I like your irony. They just refuse to acknowledge that President Obama can do anything right. They feel that he must be defeated at every turn or denigrated in anyway they can think of, even if it means a mendacious attack. They love America, their America, whatever in the hell that is. posted by

OMG ! TSM is back with his whining "why do__________hate_________. Insert the hate de jour here. I don't have anything against Chicago..never been there. Did Bush stump for his home town? Revitalization of a major city benefits everyone..why would a conservative be against it? You're stereotyping again based on arguments having nothing to do with the Olympics. It's a hand UP not a hand out. I'm for revitalization of downtown BAKERSFIELD for heavens sake. posted by

Oh..and the number of jobs created in a depressed city would be of benefit too. Sort of my point but of course it was missed in the zeal to bash a conservative and take the opportunity to say because I oppose obama I must hate the poor and Chicago, and Blacks and Dems and libs, and life. Nice going there fellas. No cigar though. posted by

Nancy, lighten up! I am assuming TSM is being ironical about "hating America" since some conservative commentaters like to use that phrasing. Chicago is a nice town, good place for the Olympic Games. Obama is stumping for the USA, Chicago happens to have won the right, competing with other US cities to bid to the committee. I was being facetious, forgive me. I repeat, lighten up, it will make life more fun. posted by

Oh boy! I hope Chicago does get the Olympics. The Atlanta Olympics was one of the biggest thrills of my life and I only went to the softball competition which wasn't even in Atlanta but in Columbus, GA,, 150 miles away. It's AWESOME!!!! Columbus made MILLIONS on just that one sport. I hope Chicago gets it so MAYBE they'll put softball back into the olympics.
