CDC wearing only partial uniforms in public
OK, I just had to post this because it seems to be bothering me. Yesterday I was in line at the grocery store and there was a woman in line in front of me. On her top half she was wearing a white tshirt with the sleeves cut off and on the bottom half she was wearing a CDC uniform. So here she is, obviously off duty, but still recognizeable as a CDC Officer and she is in line buying BOOZE!! I think it is VERY tacky to only wear part of your uniform. Who does she think she is kidding?? Everyone knows what she does for a living, including some scum bag parolee who just got out and is now encountering her off duty and not armed. Why on earth would you advertise yourself as Law Enforcement in a public place when you have no gun, no radio, no baton or anything to protect yourself. I do believe other agencies forbid their employees from wearing only a portion of their uniform in public. I am sorry but that is just plain tacky, and to be buying alcohol on top of it. Not safe and tacky!! 11 comments from 9 users

Did it say CDC on her pants. Anyone can go and buy the same pants from any uniform store (there are several here in Bakersfield). I would venture a guess that she is not LE. She was probably wearing BDU's. I have even seen the pants at second hand stores posted by

She was not wearing BDU's she was wearing the olive green expensive pants (wool maybe) with the yellow braid (or whatever thats called down the side). I am not aware of any agency in this county who wears those particular pants besides CDC. Plus she had the high polished black boots and standard black basket-weave belt. posted by

If she had nothing that advertised where she worked then whats the problem. Oh no, she bought something to drink on her way home. She removed the CDC shirt, she was off duty, and did not break any laws. There job is hard enough without people like you coming down on them for nothing. posted by

the pants don't say CDC and they all do not have the gold braided cord down the side. She could have been CDC or could have been with some other agency. posted by

CDC officers usually only wear the top, because there was an incident where some officers down south were driven off the road by some ex-felons. Thats the story I was told, either way its better to be safe than sorry. And why are our peace officers subject to the fashion police. posted by

Queen3780, why are you so surprised? I once caught an off duty CDC officer, in uniform, getting a hummer from a street hooker off Union Ave. late one night. Another time we did a search warrant in East Bako and an off duty, in uniform, CDC officer tossed a bag of crank as we came thru the door. They aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer. However, if I had to work in a zoo like they do, I'd have a bottle of booze under my seat to drink on my way home everyday. posted by

She should be able to buy booze as long as she isn't consuming it. On every military base there's a Class 6 (liquor store) where all the joes and janes buy their liquor (in uniform). posted by

I think your premise goes wrong where you call them Law Enforcement, having done both jobs I feel qualified to say that there is a huge difference between chasing a spun out, armed, gangster through his own neighborhood in the middle of the night and handing out toilet paper and fish kits to him after he is incarcerated. Being a prison guard was the most boring job I ever had but I am glad someone else doesnt mind doing it. As for the comparison to the military, in the Marine Corps we were not allowed to leave the base in utilities and few wore dress uniforms to work...maybe that comparison would be ok if she had been shopping in the prison canteen. I think queen maybe meant unprofessional rather than tacky in the original post and I would have to agree, but we have all made mistakes. Hopefully some guards will see this and realize their actions are a reflection on their department and profession and act accordingly before anything bad happens to change their policies.
