A Republican lawyer has filed a petition for an initiative campaign aimed at next June's lightly-attended election which would radically change the way California apportions electoral votes in Presidential elections.  A variety of competing anti-gay initiatives are intended to provide cover for the initiative, bringing the lunatic fringe to the polls.

(For the record, I support electoral reforms which take place nationwide and bring about a closer match between the electoral college and the popular vote.  Doing so only in California, solely to benefit the Republicans, is what I object to.)

Scientists in Wales are studying whether adding an ingredient to cattle feed can cut greenhouse gas "emissions" by up to 50 percent.  Good news:  One of California's favorite cities may even see a resurgence of its #1 crop.
