Subject: Structure fire in East Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, CA – Friday, March 14th at approximately 00:36 A.M., a call was received by
the Kern County Fire Department for a structure fire in the 800 block of Chapman St, in East
Bakersfield. Eight Kern County Firefighters responded to the incident assisted by members of
other services. Strong winds increased the intensity of the fire which was begging to spread to
other structures.

Upon arrival, fire crews were faced with a fully involved structure at the rear of the main
residence. As fire crews entered the property strong winds were pushing the fire towards
adjacent structures. Crews made an immediate attack on the fire and protection of the
surrounding buildings. A storage building was slightly damaged by the fire. Firefighters were able
to save an estimated $30,000.00 in property and contents. However, the fire destroyed an
estimated $50,000.00 of property and contents.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
There were no reported injuries.

If you have any questions, please contact the Public Information Officer at (661) 330-0133.
