BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE & nbsp; &n bsp; &nb sp; &nbs p;   ; & nbsp; &n bsp; &nb sp; &nbs p;   ; William Rector, Chief of Police _________________________________________________ _______________________ Contact: Sergeant Greg Terry Public Information Officer 661-326-3803 gterry@Bakersfieldpd.us For Immediate Release & nbsp; Thursday, July 26, 2007 Suspects arrested in residential burglary On 07/25/07, at about 9:51 a.m., the Bakersfield Police Department received a report of suspicious persons in the area of Crandon Park Drive and Snead Way. A resident in the area called police after becoming suspicious of two subjects who had arrived in his neighborhood asking for assistance. The subjects had come to his door asking for water due to their vehicle overheating. The resident assisted the subjects but became suspicious when he noticed that their vehicle was not hot and did not need water. When the subjects left he continued to watch them and observed them drive to another nearby location, stop, and approach another residence. At this point the resident called police. Officers located the subjects’ vehicle, parked, and unoccupied, in front of a residence in the 10400 block of Crandon Park Drive. Officers surrounded the residence and observed two suspects inside committing a burglary. One of the officers knocked on the front door and at this point the suspects tried to flee but were apprehended. The suspects were in the process of gathering televisions, video games, and firearms. Investigation revealed that the suspects gained entry into the residence through an unlocked bathroom window. The suspects arrested are identified as: Carnell Tanner (18), and Kevin Henry Jr , (19), both of Bakersfield. They were booked into the Kern County Jail on charges of burglary and conspiracy. The suspects were identified by the initial reporting resident as the same subjects who had come to his residence asking for assistance. The apprehension of these burglars was possible due to the observations and actions of the alert resident who called police. Kevin Henry, Jr. was arrested in April 2007 for attempted residential burglary and detectives are currently investigating the possibility of these suspects being involved in other residential burglaries. While many times suspicious situations have innocent explanations, the Bakersfield Police Department encourages everyone to report suspicious behavior or circumstances. Suspicious activity can be reported at 661-327-7111. To report a crime in progress call 911. ###
Every day the Californian newsroom gets anywhere from a couple to a dozen press releases from local police and fire departments. For most of these we do some reporting and write them up for our web and print readers.
Now we're gonna start posting the raw press releases so you all can see the source material. That way you'll be in the know on everything breaking news-related, whether we write it up or not. We'll also be adding some links along the left to some crime-related sites and packages that we think breaking news junkies might like.
