Swallow - as an FYI, pp2 and I have been going back and forth for many many blogs.  He continues to seek out and counter my  posts as being an elitest and feels that I must share more and I disagree.  I still belive in the American dream of hard work  -  the term 'leach' is appropriate

ds - I'm a corporate type and I live in this community.  Just like many of my co-workers.  We are the tax base that support communities like this all over USA.  The 'almighty dollar' we chase is the same 'almighty dollar' you wish for without actually doing something about.  While you mock us for our work ethics, you also beg for government to help on every aspect of your life.  Don't see the irony there?  Lastly, the corporations compete globally.  They answer to the share holders like you and I.  All liberals think the corporations should be a charity case - dream on.  That's why we lose jobs to our competitors - unions and taxes.  The sooner you and other libs realize this very simple fact, the sooner we'll grown the economy again.

Correlation does not equal causation.... such an easy phrase to say, such a hard phrase to understand.

posted by dirtyshirt on Jul 18, 2009 at 09:01 PM

Boy, Biden must have some supernatural powers. How else can a person just visit a place and wreak such havoc?

Impossible that the two are unrelated events, after all. The causal relationship is perfectly obvious for folks like drliftncrude, for whom wizardry explains so much....

No need to even check the accuracy of the facts here, either, referenced or not. The wizardry explains it all, so...

Man!  Everywhere Biden goes, misery follows.

Eight days after Joe Biden traveled to Ohio to defend the stimulus, arguing, "Roads plus teachers plus cops plus jobs equals a community — and that equals paychecks and prosperity," the unemployment rate in the state increases from 10.8 percent to 11.1 percent. That is the highest in 26 years.

UPDATE: Man, Joe Biden is a one-man employment wrecking crew, because the rate shoots up everywhere he visits: "A day after the Vice President touted the success of the stimulus in Richmond, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that Virginia lost 22,800 jobs last month and the unemployment rate rose to 7.2 percent."

Boy, Obama can sure pick 'em.  We're in the best of hands.

When you see such pointless personal attacks and namecalling (leaches), just report the violation. It's up to each of you to help keep this blog clean.

"Despise success": the right wing idealogue's battle cry, even if he is penniless. Amazing. Identify with the corporate types who live thousands of miles away, sipping imported scotch in a New York loft making jokes about the cluelessness of the American public and make the decisions that ultimately move their pitiful jobs overseas for a marginal profit gain.

The almighty dollar that you worship is someone else's. There's the irony of it.

PP2 - still rambling on about how everything ought to be shared.  Hey, education was provided equally to everyone.  Where were you?  While you were out doing what ever you did, some people actually worked hard in those earlier years.  Now that you find your self in your current state, you think it's only fair that the 'elite' share their hard earned wealth with you.  You show no gratitude in your free loafing. It's the leaches like you that turns people like me away from showing compassion through charity - because you despise success.

I don't see how gang members running down two chicago public housing sectors have anything to do with compassionate democrats.  It sounds more to me like soecity as a whole leaving a group of people behind.

posted by ronmexico on Jul 17, 2009 at 01:23 PM

Oh please Democrats, give us more of your compassion, like Cabrini-Green and some more Robert Taylor homes.

Compassion at its finest....

I think we should send the homeless, and those living in Obamas Chicago government housing to Afganistan.  They certainly would be safer in that war zone than the one in Obamas Chicago...

posted by ProgressivePete2 on Jul 17, 2009 at 12:52 PM

I find it interesting to hear all the comments from conservatives that suggest we would be better of as a society if people that had subsidized housing were just left out on the streets (shame on you single moms) to starve and have people die on the steps of a hospital because they weren't born in the right country or are poor. Compassionate conservatism is alive and well.

posted by ProgressivePete2 on Jul 17, 2009 at 12:47 PM

I'd be more than happy to pay the same rate ron. As long as everybody in the country gets healthcare.

posted by ronmexico on Jul 17, 2009 at 12:40 PM

That's the thing. I don't think modern conservatives want to do anything simply for the good of the country.  Especially when it comes down to helping support anybody else with medical care, etc.  ProgressivePete2

Gosh, why not just start a poll tax. That way those scummy poor folk wouldn't be able to vote for a dang liberul.

What an elitist. I hate to break this to you, but a lot of people did vote for his policies. I'm one of them.

posted by Btowntv007 on Jul 17, 2009 at 10:36 AM

An IQ test at the polls.  Maybe we won't make another mistake by voting for person's color rather than his / her policies.

Wow, that statement just set us back a 100 plus years.  While we are at it, why not make it that if your grandparents didn't vote you can't either.  Or women, cause they should be home cooking or something.

I can solve all of this countries money problems.  Abolish the IRS, and inact the Fairtax.  Then you can start getting taxes out of everyone that consumes something in this country.  And pay for everything and then some of that the government wants to do, and it levels the playing field.

If only that were constitutional.

Either way, I hope that your comment wasn't one-sided - I agree, no one should be voting based upon skin color.

Out of curiosity, what do you propose as an alternative to getting the economy back on track?

Of course, other ideas on this post aren't bad either, but they are more reactive.

"nattering nabobs of negativism".

Just watched the opening shots on Bill O'Reilly's show that focused on Obamacare. Bill and Laura Ingraham had a bit of a dust-up over whether Switzerland's universal health care has its merits (Bill thinks so as long as strict controls are in place but no so much for Laura). Both aren't thrilled with the idea of redistributing the wealth to pay for it. That got me fearing for my young sons, who could have a nice future as architects based on their interest in skyscrapers, bridges and drawing. All I could think of is how galling it'd be that they'd have to fork over nearly half their earnings (if not more by then) to help provide for the folks who will be living in the housing projects that they designed. Indeed, socialism at its best.

Jfranciais,

I have no problem having the government provide housing for the military, as constitutionally mandated.  Glad you enjoy your digs.

But the goverment hasn't been that successful providing goverment housing for those outside the military.  Maybe that is why the founding fathers did not call housing a "right".  Cabrini-Green and Robert Taylor Homes, true liberal success stories...

Do you aspire to live in government housing??  Why do you aspire to have the government provide your health care??

Because I'm tired of 25% of my premiums going to non productive executive staff and stockholders.

I'm tired of paying more because I'm not in a large insurance pool.

I'm tired of being afraid I'll be cancelled.

I'm all for making a buck, as long as the buck earned comes from producing something tangible, instead of fees, salaries, bonuses, and dividends for simply shuffling paper and cutting checks.

I don't want the government to provide health care.   I want them to provide the insurance pool.

Either way, we will still be subsidizing those who destroy their own health.

Hey learnem,

"6.  vote out ALL constituents in EVERY elected position that can be.....and let the new ones know up front, any sign of corruption, you're out too."

Vote out ALL what????? I think the word you were looking for is incumbents. Constituents are the people who put the politician in office to represent them in government. Incumbents are those who are running for re-election for the same office.

If you really are a Teacher, I'd expect you to be intelligent enough to not use words without knowing the definition. Doing this reflects poorly upon the whole teaching profession.

I do. It's awesome!!!  I even have someone dump my trash and cut the grass.  No utility bill, I get a check from the government on the 1st and the 15th, and there is minimal crime.  I even have a personal trainer I meet with every morning at 6am and can play on a golf course less than a mile from my house.  I live in a socialist utopia.

Abe Lincoln didn't abolish slavery, it just went underground, and still serves wealthy farming interests.

Actually it went mainstream and global.  That's how we get really cheap fruit and to top it off, the government subsidizes the whole operation!  They call it neo-liberal economics (Gimme that old trickle down religion).

posted by ronmexico on Jul 16, 2009 at 06:26 PM

$1400 per month. Don.  And it is $1400 a month because I am subsidizing people who refuse to take care of themselves...Not because the health care system is trying to make a buck...

Do you aspire to live in government housing??  Why do you aspire to have the government provide your health care??

posted by donmason on Jul 16, 2009 at 06:15 PM

Well Ron, do you purchase your own health insurance?

If so, what does it cost?

If not, why do you allow someone to take care of you.

Certainly, mostly corporate farming companies in these parts. And they'll remain because big business loves them.

Abe Lincoln didn't abolish slavery, it just went underground, and still serves wealthy farming interests.

Why not a single payer government housing plan?  A single payer government legal plan??  A single payer insurance plan??  Why just stop and health care??

posted by jfrancais on Jul 16, 2009 at 06:10 PM

I think we finally agree on something, huh Jfrancis??

Not quite but we're getting there.  Stores should be able to sell to whomever has the dollars (I'm a socialist not a communist).  Hospitals should treat anybody that comes through their doors.  If businesses really want the public to believe that they care about the American people then they should show it.  It would probably cut into their bottom line but they would be helping address the issue.

The way you spell my name makes it less foriegn.  Was that on purpose?

posted by paxchristi3 on Jul 16, 2009 at 06:07 PM

On second thought, those Obama coins may actually help the environment and alleviate the need for the cap-and-trade scam. I should've read what Billy Mays had to say about them: http://radioactiveliberty.c...

posted by donmason on Jul 16, 2009 at 05:57 PM

Thanks Observer.

I'd like nothing better than a single payer government plan. My medical insurance is my biggest single expense, reduces my net profit, and takes away money I'd otherwise put back into the real economy. Yeah, and if I get sick, they'll probably cancel me.

Their lawyers can whip my lawyer any day.

posted by ronmexico on Jul 16, 2009 at 05:54 PM

Personally, I'd rather see the government go after the businesses that facilitate the process.

Yes, like hospitals that treat illegals.  Companies that hire illegals.  Stores that sell to illegals.  Government institituions that serve illegals..

I think we finally agree on something, huh Jfrancis??

posted by paxchristi3 on Jul 16, 2009 at 05:44 PM

And last, but not the least, quit polluting the environment with these so we don't have to drown ourselves some more with the cap-and-trade scam:

posted by jfrancais on Jul 16, 2009 at 05:42 PM

Very true.  The idea of shipping illegals on a plane back to home countries is impossible (and laughable).  It doesn't make economic sense.  Blaming illegals for America problems is the wrong answer.  They are treated like a proverbial mistress in that they are admired behind closed doors but shunned in the public.  Look around CA.  Someone is hiring them.  They are cogs in the American machine of circulating dollars.  They work for cheap, they have purchasing power, and they help prop up the American economic system (i.e. cheap labor force that buys stuff).

How would towns like Selma, Fowler, or Wasco survive without immigrants willing to work in the fields for 2 bits (only to give their soul to the company store)?

"4.  start giving tax breaks to new businesses and to married people to have children (to create more tax payers"

Ahh, our resident idiot is at it again. We already do this, and have for years now.

Child tax credit and dependent deductions.  Any productive asset purchased for a business is a tax write off. Rent is a write off. Supplies are a write off. Insurance is a write off.  55% of my gross is a write off.

BTW: Until you work for the private sector, you pay no net taxes.

"I trully believe that our government is systematically destroying all small businesses with rules and laws, so that the government wouldbe poised to take over all industry in this country...communism...as i have been crying out for over 2 years now"

I've been in business for almost 30 years now, and doing fine. Maybe if you had the Cajones to be a businessman, you'd know how business  works in the real world.

"get rid of unions (yes i am a teacher, and I would like to see my union be DISSOLVED)"

That's very simple for you to do. Just work in a private school. Oh, wait. Then you'd only be paid what you're worth.

jfrancais - I see the point, but I see it as a temporary solution to a much larger problem.

posted by jfrancais on Jul 16, 2009 at 05:20 PM

Personally, I'd rather see the government go after the businesses that facilitate the process.  they are perpetuating history by making billions (and a bailout) off cheap labor to teh detriment of people that need (or at least claim to) jobs.

The banks were trying to bring in foreign labor (albeit legal with the help of their lobbyists) to increase profits during the boom times and now they have bailout money.  The American people are getting played and don't even know what times it is (hey, I sound like somebody).

posted by FloridaStateGrad on Jul 16, 2009 at 05:12 PM

Personally, I'd rather we legalize the immigrants - then they'll be on the official books and we'll see increased income tax revenues.
