Letterman should hope he won't have to testify to a grand jury about something else other than the extortion, but even then he'd probably still get the Polanski treatment. To hear Catholic League's Bill Donohue tell it: LETTERMAN’S SEXPLOITS MAKE HIM A HERO Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments today on the reaction to David Letterman’s revelation about having sex with his employees: David Letterman began the week laughing about the authorities going after child rapist Roman Polanski, and he ended the week laughing about his own sexual exploits. His fans, of course, wouldn’t care if he sodomized the girls. Ali Hamoudeh of New York spoke for many when he said, “We love Letterman no matter what he does. He brings us joy.” And that’s all that counts—he brings joy. Besides, who cares? CBS quotes a Hollywood publicist today who says “the star wouldn’t be hurt by the revelations and might even be helped by them.” It certainly didn’t hurt Letterman’s career when he laughed at the Catholic Church for what happened in 2002. That summer a man and a woman had sex in St. Patrick’s Cathedral around 4:00 p.m. on a Holy Day of Obligation for Catholics. They did so in plain view of men, women and children and had their performance described on the radio as part of some sick contest. Most people were aghast, the radio hosts who rigged the caper were fired, and apologies were issued by the radio station. Letterman, however, found it so hysterical that he used the story to tell jokes about it for three nights. Wonder how many nights he will use his own sexploits as source material? There was a time, not long ago, when feminists would demonstrate in the street demanding Letterman be fired for sexual harassment. As defined by feminists, sexual harassment typically kicks in whenever a boss, usually a man, uses his position of power to initiate sex with his subordinates. But Letterman need not worry: feminists have shown so much interest in matching men at the game of sexual promiscuity that the issue of sexual harassment no longer interests them. Here’s the proof. The National Organization for Women lists six issues as “Key Issues” and twenty more as “Other Important Issues.” Sexual harassment is not one of the six hot issues, though “Lesbian Rights” is; sexual harassment is not even one of the twenty “Other” issues, though “Fighting the Right” is. In other words, as long as Letterman doesn’t tell lesbian jokes, he can take advantage of all the girls he wants. posted by

The Palin joke becomes even more funny now that this has come out... Oh the hypocracy.. Maybe the next top 10 list Dave could come up with is "Top 10 locations Dave Letterman has had sex in that Bristol Palin has not"......Maybe he could work "Yankee Stadium" into one of the top 10. posted by

Not sure how the Palin joke was hypocritical, seeing as there's no evidence to suggest that Letterman had relations with anyone underage.
Then again, I'm not surprised that you would take any opportunity to spread your negativity across the blogland. Go you. posted by

I watched a clip of Letterman's show this morning where he got laughter and applause when he described his affairs with his subordinates. All a big joke. That Letterman, if you didn't already know from his sex jokes about Sarah Palin's underage daughter, is one classy guy. With a classy audience. It all helps to explain why President Barack Hussein Obama (mmm...mmm...mmm) picked that show to appear on. It's called playing to your base. posted by

Letterman is a hypocrite in the name of comedy. I heard him say it might be embarrasssing....especially for the ladies. I agree with him on that one. It's the idiot who tried extortion that I can't believe. Did he really think, in a world where sexual prowess is celebrated by so many, that Letterman would balk at being exposed? Well, exposed as in tattling not in ..uh..well, you get my drift. posted by

Donohue's piece on Letterman is hysterical and suppositional; Letterman was laughing at the bizarre behavior of the couple, clearly, not at the church. The Palin joke, not funny by Letterman's own admission and duly apologized for, remains so large an item in the fantasy land of the right and is described here as hypocrisy because they didn't then and don't now get why the joke was attempted in the first place. Palin tries to push family values and conservative social morality and clearly has trouble marching to that tune herself, as did her daughter. The hypocrisy then, as now, is in those who claim to follow one and do another. I don't think Letterman has ever claimed to be anything but that which he discussed in front of the audience yesterday. Meanwhile, we have pax once again making a cartoon out of his God this time just in the interest of getting a weird swipe at a late night television entertainer. God's top ten list of commandments? Please tell me you regret that line! posted by

Not sure how the Palin joke was hypocritical, seeing as there's no evidence to suggest that Letterman had relations with anyone underage. Who said it was hypocritical? Just wanting to know if Dave had sex with Arod in Yankee Stadium. Legitimate question, since he seems to have had sex with alot of his co-workers...Plus its funny. Don't you get it?? He may have even had sex with Keith Olberman since Keith reportedly has had a lot of meetings with the Yankees... posted by

My comment was not directed at you. Using the word "classy" was more a lack of imagination on my part, having just read it in the previous comments. No, my comment was the result of yet another opportunity to connect this president with an unsavory character. posted by

Hmm.. so your logic is this, you ignore the fact that Ron mentioned the "banging skanks" line, and instead hone in on my obvious attempt to lighten the mood by using the same line against him?
I'll be the first to admit that I contributed to the objectionable material, but quit it with this "the Liberals are bad, and we're good" nonsense - you only make yourself look more the fool.
Yeah.. you really base your opinions on facts. Maybe you should get thicker glasses. posted by

Oh my. Longing for the days when all this garbage was swept under the carpet and entertainers and their minions knew how to keep their mouth shut. This kind of thing has been going on for eons. Must be a slow media day. Even presidents used to be able to keep their indiscretions behind closed doors. IMO media has too much time of their hands. Tell me why we should give a rats arse if letterman had affairs with his staffers? obviously none of the recipients of his affections deemed it necessary to make a big deal out of it. IF the advances were unwanted, in this day and age, all a female has to do is holler sexual harassment and sue the guy. There are more important issues facing this country right now to worry about who is poking who behind the curtain.

SCR: chicago lost its bid 'cause they didn't win!! HA! I'm sure the recent confrontations and killings on the mean streets didn't help the cause. I do have to wonder aloud, why two planes were taken. How come mrs. o couldn't wait a day and go in the same plane and mr. o? How did ophra get there? her own plane or did she hitch a ride with the mrs? mrs. o didn't help the cause by saying they (the "o's" were making a sacrifice getting there - what's up with that? what sacrifice? dinner on the plane instead of in the WH?? But...........................then again we will never get answers to these questions so let's just go back to wondering if the world is going into the toilet with a large flush (typhoons-ocean surges, tsunami's, melting ice, etc) next year. Thanks for clarifying, dril. Ron, as a regular "conservative" blogger, hits a nerve with me every time he references women. Never once have I read any comments that are the least bit positive; it's always sluts tatted up with STDs, drop out college students who were cheerleaders in highschool who got knocked up, chicks who get stupid after two glasses of wine, and the latest gem, "banging skanks." And this is just in the last month or so. Perhaps he's writing his autobiography? It sounds like he has all kinds of experience with women who may or may not have made the best choices. I just wonder why his focus is so myopic and negative. I appreciate all the other conservative men who don't act like jackasses. posted by

Elinem, OK, let's refer to Letterman as fornicator slash adulterer. We know he's a fornicator in that he had his son with his wife out of wedlock. And many others are referring to him as a fornicator as well probably because of the reports that he was playing the field even when he was with his longtime gal. posted by
