Girl shot by CHP
I read this story and was appalled. I'm sorry this girl got shot, but wasn't she breaking the law a bit herself? She is 14 years old, out at street races (and they were street racing, I used to go out to that area years ago with my ex), with some guy who was 21 years old, the car she was in tried to run over an officer and then the car sped off. Hmmm, doesn't that seem sort of a bad thing?? And now, shock shock, she's sueing the CHP and the officer involved. I know the officer didn't do exactly what he was supporsed to about calling in the shot fired and preserving the scene, but when he shot, it was to save his life when a car was careening towards him. Does anyone else see this as wrong when another Bakersfield family wants to get millions off of a mistake of their own?? Why will nobody except that they were the one at fault?? Quit blaming other for your misfortune. Sorry it happened, but you put yourself in the wrong situation at the wrong time. Wasn't it a Sunday night, I think that is a school night for 14 year olds and being out passed midnight is a couple hours after curfew. Ok, I'm done! 14 comments from 8 users

The CHP officer who shot into the car and failed to notify anyone, as any normal officer would, SAYS the car tried to run him down. Good story after he gets caught. The dumb girl is 14 and wasn't driving. At most she is in violation of curfew. Okay, now I'm done. posted by

Nobody was hurt by the street racing, or her being there, but she deserved to get shot because a cop decided to cause a problem where otherwise none existed? No, you're disgusting. posted by

I'll believe a CHP before I believe a bunch of hooligan street racers... OB and john, you are rediculous. posted by

socalmuscle, the officer who shot the girl will soon be referred to as "the former CHP officer". But you believe whoever you want. And it's spelled ridiculous.

whether the CHP officer was out of procedure or not is really not the issue, if the girl was where she should have been in the first place she wouldn't have been shot, right? Why didn't her parents know where she was or what she was doing? Why is 14 yo out at that time of night in the first place? I just finished 2 weeks at the fair with my child feeding animals and competing, she didn't have the time or the energy to be out street racing, we had to be at the fair at 6am each morning and was there till pretty late at night. There are plenty of positive things to do here in Kern Co. and parents need to get off their duffs and get their kids involved in something so they don't have so much free time on their hands. And don't reply with the excuses of we have to work, we are too busy with our careers ( if that is the case you should not have had children) we don't have the money, girl scouts and boy scouts have financial assistance as do I am sure many other programs, or any other lame excuse, these kids are our future and the time is well invested. In fact there is a guy at the fair that breeds sheep and gives them away to 4-H or FFA kids who can't afford to otherwise buy them and I know others who do the same. Where there is a will there is a way!!! posted by

I saw a cop punch a 14 year old girl in the face once. She was standing right next to me. I don't have much respect for those thugs. posted by

tridge, I bet the cop was trying to punch you, and you hid behind the 14 year old girl, resulting in her accidentally getting struck. posted by

Our men and women in uniform deserves and gets all my praise for putting their life on the line every day and night. The ones that usually talks negative about these peace keepers are the ones that are usually out in the streets looking for trouble. Yeah, they may make a mistake once in a while, but I still think that their probability of success is very high. And, if they're lives are being threatened, they can't afford to make any mistakes. Therefore, Tridge, you and the girl were probably in the wrong place at the wrong time. The 14yo girl in a car speeding towards an officer were definitely in the wrong place at the wrong time. The officer may have screwed up by not reporting in time (procedural?), but I'd unload a hand gun too if a car was racing towards me as he probably had no idea what the entention of the driver was. posted by

Sorry nwaggoner, now I recall. Paul was the convicted robber who served time in prison. To be honest, that whole incident registered a zero on my compassion meter.
